What seems to be lost on the Rider fans, and even some Bomber fans, is that Paul Lapo wanted, received, and agreed to an extra year on his contract. No one put a gun to his head. 2 year contracts are now the norm for coordinators. Why? Because they wanted multiple years of GUARANTEED salary in exchange for their signature. Lapo could have gone year to year on his contract if he wanted the freedom to leave whenever a job came up...but he didn't. He took a two year extension because that would guarantee his salary beyond one year. I hardly think it's fair for coaches/GMs to sign multi-year deals for GUARANTEED money and then cry foul when they are actually asked to honor them. We would honor the contractual payment if we had decided to move on from Lapo. If the coaches around the league truly want their freedom to move, it's quite simple, give up the GUARANTEED contract as a sign of good faith.

Reynolds shòuld have been expecting that. Jones has always been a me first merc and has a long history of jumping ship and leaving his employers in a bad predicament. The Jonestown crew discounted this possibility because now he worked for the Riders...but Reynolds shouldn't have. He erred grieviously.

All joking aside, the Riders faithful are upset at the situation but the blame should solely rest on two men Chris Jones and Reynolds. In 2015 these two men engaged in back room negotiations during the season in order to completely blindside a divisional rival. This stunk so badly the CFL had to create new rules to make sure it didn't happen again. For the first time in CFL history other teams now needed league approved consent to hire a coach away from another team. Rider fans cackled with glee at how they screwed over the Evil Empire. 3 years later the man who tampered with Jones got a heavy dose of karma by trusting him. Gone was the savior because Reynolds was too stupid to get a cutoff date on Jones NFL out clause. Now faced with needing to poach another coach got an even bigger dose of karma when the rule created because of his cheating bit him in the nads. Rider fans are still crying foul...but the rest of the CFL says ..HA HA Karma beyotch! Hows the tampering and acting in poor faith working out 4 you now?

If they sign their new HC to a one year, dead duck, contract they can kiss any chance of retaining/ recruiting FA's or a QB this year. Might as well hang the forfeit sign on the window, refund the season ticket holders, and tell the league we'll be back in 2020. You don't throw the season away because you couldn't get permission to interview a guy.

They are the kings of wishful thinking. They honestly think that any incoming HC is going to sign a one year dead duck contract...that's sad.

About the only thing that Jones did very well was being a brilliant DC. He was an average HC, and below average GM. Without him their that defence falls to middle of the pack in the league. Without HUGE offensive improvement they are not a playoff team this year. They all know it too, Rider fans won't admit that they look to be basement dwellers if they don't hit a home run in HC and QB recruitment, but their angst over the whole Lapo things proves they are hiding a huge amount of worry over the coming season.

This is what happens when you get an owner of a forum like CRF who lets the tail wag the dog. His moderators, RS and VoR among others run that website and bully all others into submission. Toe the line of what they believe and you are OK, those who dissent from the fiction they create get banned. It's a travesty really. CRF is a good guy but he has completely lost sight of what and how his moderation itself behaves. Stronson makes up half of what he is saying, says he has a secret source, and anyone who questions it is banned. Too funny. For the life of me I can't understand why any level headed Rider fan would put up with that crap. I guess it's because it's the only Rider forum, so what choice do they got. One day someone will start a 2nd Rider forum and it won't be long before Stronson, BSD, VoR and the other football insider wannabees are posting by themselves at a near dead forum. I am sure CRF and those that control his forum will laugh when he reads this, as he is lurker on this forum, but I would recommend he talk to Colin Unger about how quickly an entrenched and busy fan forum can fall off the rails.

Your sources on this sound just as believable as Stronson's sources.....eerily similar actually. Maybe it is true.

That'll get you banned. Stronson was on an incredible run of his "inside sources" being completely out to lunch last year and he starter ban hammering anyone who brought it up.

They are still clinging to the notion that the Bombers are evil and that Lapo is a hostage. I love it. In a week or so they will hire a coach and throw Lapo to the wolves by telling everyone they dodged a bullet by not getting permission to hire Lapo so that they could hire (insert new HC name here).

If Riderfans want to be mad at someone they should be mad at Jones for leaving them high and dry, or Reynolds for negotiating such a stupid contract that allowed this to happen.....that doesn't fit the narrative of the moderation over there though. They've been selling Jones and Reynolds as the Riders saviors for so long now that this puts them in quite the bind. But like any experienced fan forum member they will instead create the Bomber bogeyman to distract the membership at large from realizing how grossly incorrect the Jonestown fan club really were.

Saying Lapo is very upset creates far more clicks than saying he was mildly disappointed. I don't believe that Farjan had any conversation with Lapo while he was in Kansas yesterday, and I believe whoever fed him this info, he took it and blew it up for reasons of readership.

Staying in Winnipeg will take a ton of the sting away for Paul. At the end of the day he, and his family, LOVE Winnipeg. It has probably already blown over.
