  1. We have turned over a crap load of starting positions in the past few years. One just needs to look at our roster from 2019 to now to see. A select few vets have been favored, most have definitely earned their spots year after year, but many have been allowed to walk or shown the door as well. I don't think MOS shows any more favoritism to vets than any other coach in the CFL. Newsflash: HCs don't like to add any more rookies than they absolutely have to in order to field a roster. That is a professional football HCing rule of thumb.
  2. You are equating us keeping sub par talent with us finding sub par talent. Not the same thing. There isn't a team in the history of football that hasn't brought in TCF in order to fill out a TC. The ONLY problem I have with our recruitment of Jackson was the fact that for some reason we kept him. When you are the class of the league every team is going to try peel off a slice. Such is life at the top of the pile.
  3. ??....Goveia has been almost primarily our NAT scout and he's done a pretty darn good job at it. However, there has been nothing meh about the talent we've brought in as IMPs either. We have gotten excellent, far above average scouting from our team. This has allowed us to stay at the top of the pile in the CFL for many years now. I understand that many guys here are upset that we lost 3 winner take all games, but it is has gone full on bananas with people discounting entire seasons we have either led the CFL or finished 1st in the West. That kind of sustainability is exceedingly difficult, and is the work of excellent recruitment, management, and coaching. It is bizarre to suggest otherwise. Some fans here need to eat some humble pie. This is not Saskatchewan for cripes sakes, we are the envy of the league.
  4. Ted was a big loss, no doubt about it, but I suppose we should wait and see who we replace him with before we decide it's the end of an era.
  5. So you're saying you want Lapo back then? lol
  6. Bye Ted! Thanx for the memories. Good luck in Steel town
  7. Hope they interview and talk to people, but Bourgoin is a highly regarded coach in this league.
  8. Right away? No, I don't think he will and that's not disrespecting Biggie. The Bombers have so many deserving candidates that I believe deserve the nod and have waited for the nod.
  9. For sure. I think if he takes the offseason to really work hard on his foot work he could improve.
  10. I personally believe Dobson is our weakest link, but that is in no way an endorsement of Kola. We can do better at both positions.
  11. In a non SMS and cash strapped CFL, Taman did a good job. Once the SMS was started and teams financially recovered and were able to have actual scouting departments, Taman's past resourcefulness became a liability to teams, not a strength.
  12. No evidence that they won't based on the past. We have moved on from many very popular players over the MOS years. We put Harris, Nichols, Adams etc. out to pasture as an example. All huge fan favorites, all supposed MOS guys. People say that MOS will bring these guys back, but history says otherwise.
  13. I guess if you look at who we turned over an argument could be made that none were by the Bombers choice, or all were depending on whether you believe we should have paid market value to re-sign them. Bottom line we turned over quite a few positions to young players and that was part of our reload. We will reload again at a few positions to poise ourselves for the next 2-3 years. Guys like Biggie, Alexander, may be re-signed but will find themselves in diminished roles with diminished money. Bryant maybe leaves, hope not, but he's up there and the one old vet that I wish wouldn't. We will see some turnover again. DL is young, secondary is young, receivers are young, OL might be too young if Neuf and Bryant go...really I think we may be a really young team going into this season. I think we are focusing so hard on a very few guys getting up there that perspective is lost on just how many really young guys we have in our starting 24.
  14. Both men are on expiring contracts IIRC. Not much we can do really. However, I'm not sure that McManus/Goveia are interested in moving and being 2nd fiddle to the other one. We would retain one rather easily I would think.
  15. Argos have been very good the past 3 years. Other teams try to be good too. I fail to see what that has to do with our sustainability? We are in a small market prairie town, we start at a disadvantage. The fact we can attract and retain the calibre of players that we do is really good work by all involved. Predicting doom and gloom is completely unfounded at this point. I think we've been pretty good at getting young guys who are struggling off, but I agree on the vets for the most part. It's how we've built our room and culture by not being cut throat, but maybe we've gone too far in that regard. We shall see what kind of reset we continue on this offseason. Last year we turned over about as much of the roster as any team should in one year. This year we will likely see more of that.
  16. It's an indication of inexperience not poor coaching. It's difficult getting a receiving corps to learn the nuances of every play, and to work in synchronicity. Even harder when at times it was 60% rookies. Buck had to pare back some layers of his offence. I would expect that if Buck is to return that we will see more details and motions added.
  17. Imo, the first half of the season was a very patch work and young receiving corps. When they finally all got on the field and had a couple games under their belt we started seeing a good offence. Absolutely no doubt that Buck had to simplify many aspects of his receivers route running and pre-snap motion due to their inexperience. I would think that year two of this same receiving corps would see some form pre snap motion being re-implemented. I am a little curious about the Bailey mid season non-signing as well, my thoughts are that maybe there was some bridge burning last offseason?
  18. Yea...they used to be a FA destination because they were winning. Now they will only attract flies.
  19. McManus rarely ever comes North of the border and that is by choice. Unless a team wants a GM conducting business from Florida, or McManus suddenly gets an affinity for being here full time I can't see him moving on. Goveia, otoh, is a much better choice and would be a huge loss to Walters team.
  20. I don't like his offence at all. One dimensional and easy to shut down. Hope we aren't seriously considering him.
  21. Calgary has an owner that too cheap to buy coffee and muffins for the players meetings. I can't see how they could grade any better than the inevitable F they are going to get.
  22. Been hearing that for 3 years now.
  23. Wouldn't want Maksymic as our OC. Might as well trade BO if we did that.
  24. This makes no sense. We have been the West division champions for those 3 straight years. There are 4 other teams that should be firing their coaches every year by your standard.
  25. No ones is saying lollipops and rainbows. Just as this could be the beginning of the end, it could just as easily be the continuation of the dominance we have seen. All things end for sure, but that does not mean that it is now or even beginning now. CFLPA is putting out their report cards soon. That will tell a lot.
