  1. I feel like the biggest sports media types succeed with a persona that is a very exaggerated version of themselves. Tony Kornheiser is a great example of this, and Michael Wilbon is as well. I think many of the newer generation of sports media types try to emulate them to a certain degree. Chris Berman and Stuart Scott also had larger-than-life on-screen personalities. Stephen A Smith has been entirely consumed by the persona (and ego) he created. It feels like she/they are trying to recreate this, but with zero success. I never watch more of the pre-game or post-game than I have to anymore. And I often mute the audio to listen to CJOB. I would rather listen to unsynced sound and awful cjob commercials, or nothing at all. I didn't mind the preseason games that were televised with no audio and stadium noise only. How can the league grow when die-hard fans (I know I'm not alone here or across the league) can't stand to listen to the presentation on TV? My wife isn't a die-hard fan, and she can't stand the panel or the booth most of the time either.
  2. That does seem to be the case, honestly it doesn’t matter to me though. (I know she’s not like that with the raptors stuff she’s done, be it a small sample size) Idk if they can separate her from the gimmick. The bad taste is strong. Production/ direction needs change, and much of the tv talent needs to be replaced. Bo is better than any of the ex players in the panel and the booth. Lapo is excellent but under utilized. Ford should probably be In the limited role lapo usually has. Hes just not a natural speaker and hasn’t improved a lot.
  3. That makes a lot of sense. TC is a hard time, aside from the declawed nature of the actual work, separating from family and settling into that intense work schedule is a lot mentally. Wish him well, Im sure it is a hard call. Probably no benefit for him in going onto the retired list. I feel like a lot of young guys who do this don't officially retire.
  4. QFT, Laura is fantastic. She'd be a massive upgrade. Yep, just the worst kind of schtick. She's like a bland stephen a smith with out any hot takes.
  5. The right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way! Isn't that the wrong way? Yeah, but faster! The tsn way is the wrong way, but cheaper.
  6. Ol and Dl for me. Ol will be better than last year based on improved health alone. I am optimistic about the DL having Lawson back and adding Vaughters. If we could get a good Canadian who can play a 3-tech and end in limited reps out of the draft, that'd be excellent. The worry is, of course, that Jake is still here and might get the most reps. I don't want to see us give up on Adams, or Woods, or even Samson, because Jake gets the most reps again. I'm worried about QB, too. I think we have the assets in the draft and on the roster to make up for all our weaknesses. Though it will all come down to how the offence is run, and qbing. I like the direction in the coaching staff, and I believe in the talent of zach and Strevy. Their health and fit/usage is another thing, though. If Jake and Kola were off the roster tomorrow, my confidence in our roster would go up a lot.
  7. Im not at all worried about our DBs, Lbers, or Rbs. Maybe we make some bad decisions at Lber but I kind of doubt it. Everything else is up in the air.
  8. Whoooooo! Yeah Baby! TSN! Shout to everyone back home! Grunting noises. The whole show feels like someone's AV class homework. I can't imagine who would watch all of that each week. Or even once. Maybe if they made it a clip show of the best on field hot mic moments and included it in a highlight of the week package. You could even package it in a high energy segment like the old ESPN NFL "You been jacked up!" I thought yours was 20? 😉 An age ranking of posters would be hilarious. My money says Zach Schnitzer is the youngest, he knows how podcasts work. Gotta be right?
  9. Yeah, he would be ideal as a sam IMO. It would be a worthy consideration to move Kramdi, but I don't think we would ever entertain that. But having Griffen and Nichols as the halfs would be an incredible luxury. Holm might really excel at field corner too. They love his quick hips, and he has elite closing speed. He doesn't have the physicality, but he also doesn't sell out for hits he knows his limitations and wraps up.
  10. It's a great draft for us to restock on mid roster and up Canadians. If we have another draft like last year we will be in good shape for years to come. I might consider a QB in this draft, but only in a likely transition to WR, while still being able to do the QB sneak duties. Senecal would be the ideal target for that IMO. That guy needs to have some streveler type heart and work ethic, willing to make him self a useful player on teams as well.
  11. I needed a good laugh, thanks for sharing. We go db and QB? Yeah ok lol. Elgersma who hs NFL interest goes 13th? Sure. On the bright side, I am sure our draft will be handily better than that. Especially in this draft that is soo deep on the line. 6 line men in the top 10 (12 in 19) and the think we go db/qb LOL. Pyle slides to 56 past us all but the last time too.
  12. Probably have to wait till camp or later. I think it’ll come down to how Kelly and the rookie recruits play. We brought in a fistful of big imp career safeties with nfl experience. I think griffin either slides over to a starting db spot at half or S. I expect to see lots of guys in lots of different positions for camp and first pre season game. Gotta see how Parker shakes out and if he’s finally 100% who steps in at S and corner. But we got lots of bodies to fill spots imo.
  13. True, game day shows need to set a tone and entertain. If any thing have the schtick on that rather than the game day panel. can’t stand Kate. Id love to see some of what lapo has been doing on his yt, and what we’ve seen teased by matty/milt previously. The in depth player / Xs n Os break downs. back in the day score or maybe sportsnet had a show with some cfl guys talking and being regular guys. I remember one with swac playing pool in particular. Can’t stand it idk it’s soo disjointed and repetitive. People seemed to be content 50 dollars paid the rent
  14. Qft. Yeah me too. I only got one of the instatwitterbooks and it isn’t that one.
  15. For sure, there could be a chance for him to get on elsewhere with this move. Maybe that's it. We sure seem to treat ni teams guys like they grow on trees, save for 2-3 we cling to no matter what.
  16. lmao that's so accurate. I wonder what the kids have moved on to now... I think the league needs to hire some teens and cut right to whatever is current. I feel like this has been the CFL since maybe the 80s, but at least since the Rocket was in Toronto. The times since then that the league has been on point with the demo you target for growth are few and far between. Could you imagine if we did a demographics breakdown of MBB? 18-24, 0. 18-29, maybe 3. 30-50, 2690. Then 8 or so whose SIN numbers have less than 3 digits.
  17. Thats it then, time for a cfl Tik Tok campaign. 😂
  18. That is interesting. Maybe hurt, maybe doesn't want to continue playing, maybe an off-field issue. It might also be that they aren't happy with progress from him, and feel we are really deep at Lber already. With Ayers, Kyrie, the Jones', and the Canadian group of Makonzo, Cadwallader, Gauthier, plus Weitz and the upcoming draft, maybe they didn't feel he had a chance to make the squad. It also looks like Leroux has been moved off the suspended list to roster, maybe they plan to roster him as a Lber.
  19. They've been spending it because it was built in when the current powers that be took over; they've also been gutting those programs left, right, and centre. There are very few instances where radio is still desired across Canada. Most are finite niches like the bombers on Cjob, and most are for people far older than the target demo. The money that goes into radio from those channels today would be better spent on a podcast series hosted on a streaming service and YouTube. I think the big hope with this new commish is that he has the media chops to push our product. Randy talked big about the US TV deal and growing outside the Canadian market, but didn't accomplish much. The big thing with the CFL is we need to get the younger demos to games. Places like here and Ott have succeeded by growing our game day experience and branding in the younger generation with an inclusive, amazing experience. The best way I know to do that is to engage that demo in mediums they care about. I think fun events with players like the QB challenge is a great way to personalize and humanize the players. Whereas the leagues 1 one-year contracts can kind of dehumanize guys and relegate them to a number on a jersey, doing a job. The WWE is doing some stuff these days to bring fans closer to their product. Shows like Next Gen, LFG, and the forthcoming Unreal. Formula 1 did this very successfully, and the UFC originally grew a lot out of the TUF show. We've seen some shows that go behind the scenes with 1 team for a season, which have been very well regarded. But that has a limited, regional impact. I'd like to see a show/webseries, etc that follows, say, 4 teams. 1 team at the bottom that has a decent chance to grow, maybe the off-season champion, Edmonton type, 2 contenders, and 1 other playoff team. If teams fall off, they get relegated, and you swap in another. A show that follows all the teams at some of the US tryouts and into the pre-season would be great too. The new generation's target demographic wants more than bodies wearing a number. They don't as much watch for the patch on the front of the jersey vs the name on the back; they want to be immersed in a deep story. They want more reasons to care than regional rivalry and pride.
  20. They aren’t. Even pre championship the raptors were huge out to the west coast. It was Canada’s team before and only much more so since. I think you’re just out of the target demographic. The cfl couldn’t dream of the national reach the raptors have. I mean it’s radio. Tsn isn’t even on the radio any more. A great marketing type would be fantastic. The type of growth the cfl needs requires many things. That’s one and honestly idk what all else. But it’s not doing great getting those people due to its small niche market. If any thing, the cfl is a small regional niche market. How much of league attendance comes from Winnipeg, ssk and then bc buying butts in seats with gimmicks and cheap tickets? 60% or more? If the bombers and riders market slouched back to what it was in our dark ages pre 01, the league might collapse.
  21. That would be a good idea, but you have to sell a company on that. And the raptors are huge across the country. Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, and Scotty Barnes are each drastically more recognizable nationwide than the top guys in each respective market are locally.
  22. Sports stars are weird now. I feel like most leagues don’t build stars any more. Success gives guys a chance at a platform and it’s up to them to capitalize. Social media has really changed and quantified stars at various levels. Would I like the league to do better with marketing stars? Yes. How should they go about it? Idk. I think the skills challenge / qb challenge would be a good start. Maybe a Netflix show, better game day production would be big.
  23. Yeah I don’t disagree with that part. Though it sounds like the cfl is big because he’s a star here. The selection of stars in other sports that he’s calling the super star of the league and comparing him self to is kind of crazy. Ja morant is a huge screw up and not a top talent. Reece isn’t on top of the wnba or in the age range. Jefferson is atleast the best wr though in the nfl. Whole thing is a mess that smacks of self promotion. I also don’t agree that teams and franchises build or make superstars. If that was the case it’d be happening a lot more in every sport on more teams. Superstars happen. It’s a rare combination of talent, growth mindset, luck and hard work from all kinds of people.
  24. https://3downnation.com/2025/04/20/tim-white-compares-plays-he-makes-in-cfl-to-nfl-superstars-jerry-rice-randy-moss/ I get that he is saying we have stars up here, and that he is in the top tier of wrs here. We do, and he's an excellent wr. He went 40 or more yards twice all of last year. If he played on a better team he would probably be considered more frequently to be among the top tier of wrs in the cfl. But if he did, he would not get 125-150 targets a year. 75 out of 125 - 95-150 aren't great catch rates up here.
  25. Buck was a rookie oc in 21. We also have Jackson to support as well. Not concerned with experience. vanilla ice, hold the vanilla, served lukewarm.
