Fun to sit and watch practice today... Been about 20 years since I was last able. With respect to the late great Randy Turner, the king of Odds and Sods writing.... here's some thoughts: -Al

  • Just to speak to Wolitarsky’s character and just what a good dude he is … few years back, some friends and I went to go see him play at Earl’s on Main and we ended up chatting with him and Streveler …

Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

I would be more or less fine with losing Lawler if I knew that Schoen was going to be ready to start the year. Dillon Mitchell, Nic Demski, Keric Wheatfall,....... ?? Is a bit concerning to start the year.

Could always find the next shoen. You know I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt with receivers and dbs.

So we're looking at what 6 NI on offense (2 wr/ 1rb/ 3 ol) and 2 on defense (SAM and DT)?

Brady

Demski Clercius

Neufeld kolo

Lawson (Jake)

Kramdi.

that’s 7 there. And it doesn’t include a 3rd OL.

think we go 3 import OL

Yes. They prob go Kelly at safety. Perhaps that’s the way you get to 8. Unless they sign an OL, right now it’s looking like Wallace or an American starting. Is Wallace ready? I dunno.

Couldn’t you designate a Willie Jefferson Or any guy who has been here 3 seasons now as a nationalized and go 7 actual Canadian and 1 nationalized one. Maybe we use that rule this year?

I’m not ready to pencil in wheatfall tbh. Not after what we saw on his return from injury. It was one big game based on one big catch and run. Agudosi did a whole lot more than that.
Would for sure be a lot more comfortable knowing dalton would be ready. But I doubt he will be.

I'm very curious what all comes out of his media availability tomorrow. I will say that I'm excited to see what Clercius does with more responsibility/touches...

Why do you say this? It was a knee injury wasn’t it? Does that usually take a full year?

I think we found a returner.... (and that should, of course, read Peyton Logan)

guy I had hoped we brought in last time he was free agent....solid piece there and will have some offensive use too...especially if we hire Jackson

One of whuch needs to be a Nationalized American.....so technically 7

If we go status quo via ratio as last yr we only nedd 1....Canadain on defence on the field at any given time to meet ratio....having at times up to 4...is utter stupidity as they make our defence weaker...not stronger

After signing Logan I'm fully expecting Lawler to be gone. It really looks like we're going in another direction with our offense. And quite frankly - I'm pretty excited.

Might be right about Lawler, but I doubt Logan makes a difference one way or another. He'd be fairly cheap and is likely here primarily due to his return skills. If there was a signing that signalled we might lose one of our big 2 receivers it was Mitchell. Honestly, I think that was a very under rated signing as well. He had an off year last year in the Elks offence, but is a potential 1000 yard guy in our offence.

It's been widely reported that he's not expected back for a long time yet, but... I suspect we'll know more after his media availability tomorrow.

Dalton has said he feels he'll be ready for TC.

The only place I've seen this is here but maybe I've missed it.

it’s what I’ve heard a lot too but now that you mention it I’m not sure of the origin any more. Though I don’t take any stock in rumours and insider info.
For me, coming back off back of back season ending injuries while also getting into shape and getting the rust off is a process you can’t rush. Even if he’s physically 100% healed in time for camp, he still needs to get stretched back out and then get the rust off. Which is longer than a tc for most players imo. I think he’d need to be 100% much earlier in order to get the volume of work in in terms of SnC and also working with zach/a qb.

Wr in the cfl is insanely demanding in terms of run jump repeat. Especially for a slot using the waggle. Imo that’s why we see soo many guys explode onto the scene and not be able to maintain a high level of play.

skilled position guys...a lot is in the head....B.A wore his brace after the fact for over a yr and only started to look anywhere near to his old self came after he discarded it and just played free

WR is a total different beast so will his cuts and moved be the same...crisp and fluid?...will he go up and snag those balls not thrown in perfect spot fearing landing wrong may result in re-injure in the back of his mind?...will he now avoid those catches in traffic?...lotta if's and banking on him outta the shoot as one the main guys, and not having another WR on roster who garners primo attention isn't a good thing....curious to see if he is in a brace at camp...and if he is....not good...and it's already in his head that he's not confident.....

I speaking from experience by the way...coming back from a 3 ligament rebuild and just an ACL rebuild

It's 8 Canadian starters, but the 8th can be a nationalized Canadian.  Someone who has been on you roster for 3 years or in the CFL for 5.

No shortage of options for us to add another receiver.  I like Spencer as he’s a natural wide receiver and he’s got the versatility to help us in the return game as well.

5 yrs is a life time. Especially when you're a shifty type of player. Does he still have that speed? Look at how 4 yrs impacted Lucky. Say what you want about him, but it was clear last year he had lost a step/his burst.
