False equivalency. NEW DAMNING EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT TRUMP WAS RUNNING THE COUP PLOT The missing piece that even the 1/6 Committee was unable to find was direct evidence that Trump was running the coup plot, but a new report has Trump directing others to overturn the election. The Washington Post reported on Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona: After Trump’s call to Ducey, Trump directed Pence, a former governor who had known Ducey for years, to frequently check in with the governor for any progress on uncovering claims of voting improprieties, according to two people with knowledge of the effort. Pence was expected to report back his findings and was peppered with conspiracy theories from Trump and his team, the person said. Pence did not pressure Ducey, but told him to please call if he found anything because Trump was looking for evidence, according to those familiar with the calls. This isn’t Trump asking or making requests. The former president directed his then-vice president to pressure a sitting governor to overturn election results and then report back to him. Trump was more than the beneficiary of the plot. He was the person running it. Rudy Giuliani was the fake elector plot coordinator, but Donald Trump was the point man for the whole scheme. The story of the pressure campaign in Arizona puts Trump at the top of the plot. There are no other people that the former president can blame or set up to take the fall for him. Pence was directed to pressure an elected official to overturn the election and report back to Trump by Trump. It doesn’t get any more direct than that, and if the Washington Post story is correct, Trump should be facing charges for the attempted coup after the 2020 election.
  2. Canadian wildfire smoke could choke North America 'until September': report Smoke from the more than five hundred climate-change-driven wildfires raging throughout Canada is choking large swaths of the United States and has spread as far as Europe — and the question of when they will end is burning in the minds of the millions of people whom they are affecting. In Saturday's edition of The Atlantic, correspondent Caroline Mimbs Nyce dove into what is driving the infernos and why their scope is so unprecedented. "The problem is, Canada is not trying to put out just one fire. Right now, a map from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre shows a country spotted red with blazes, like it's come down with a nasty case of chicken pox," Nyce wrote. "Remarkably, these fires aren't clustered in a single region: Their spread is the northern equivalent of New York and California burning at the same time, with additional fires stretched in between. According to the CIFFC, more than 509 fires are active in Canada, 253 of which are classified as 'out of control.'"
  3. My favourite film is the one I first saw him in. "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter". It was a low-budget movie about a man caring for his developmentally delayed brother after the deaths of their parents. He is trying to have a life but his brother is desperately clingy and manipulative and Arkin's character is often angry and resentful. not an easy or comfortable film to watch but a realistic portrayal of life for some.
  4. If the Bombers can shake Fajardo up early in the game, the rest should be easy. But then, it was thought that the Lions' game would be easy as well.
  5. Do you think someone might use that midwifes' trick to induce labour?
  6. According the Argo movie, Canada wasn't involved at all. It was all those clever and devious Americans, god bless them.

  8. The wheels of the gods turn exceeding slow.
  9. I always thought Steinauer was a smart player and good assistant coach but right now he looks like Craig Dickenson did last year.
  10. Not to mention a ton of Bomber fans. It starts and ends with the O-line play. When they do their jobs, many, many things become possible but last week was the worst outing since Collaros got here, and he paid for it.
  11. Doege doesn't remind many of Doug Flutie, but he's a helluva lot better than Taylor. Still not good enough, though. Like the Bennett RB for Ottawa.
  12. Nobody, but nobody was good last week.

  14. These sort of things are why O'Shea is a coach and we aren't. It makes my brain nurt.
  15. Jones getting fired would be a relief to many- maybe even him. Life cannot be enjoyable for him these days.

He was a police officer in every meaningful way. He was trained, armed, paid and sworn in as a peace officer. If you accept hiding as taking a defensive position, perhaps retreating several hundred yards would also be an acceptable position. I have several Winnipeg and RCMP officers in my extended family and all see what happened as cowardice. Officers are told repeatedly that they are expected to put themselves in harm's way as part of their job description. That may be different in the US where police are elected and apparently poorly trained, but a police officer who cowers while it is obvious that children are being killed is unworthy of being called such.
  19. Considering how deep a hole the RedBlacks were in and the dearth of good QBs in the league right now, the current regime in Ottawa deserves a couple of years.
  20. It seems to be a rule of thumb that whenever major changes are made to a starting lineup, that team struggles. Its not about the quality of the new pieces, but more about the coordination of those pieces with the existing ones. Fajardo does have the odd good game, so this is not going to be a "gimme" game.
  21. A poll published in today's Free Press indicated that the the strongest love of Canada is to be found among NDP supporters, followed by Liberal Party supporters. The lowest love of Canada was among.......wait for it.......Conservative voters. Sadly predictable as right-wingers detest what does not conform to their will.

If you accept the premise that he should have done nothing, then every police officer, border guard, FBI agent and armed government employee has the right to flee if they believe they are out-gunned. There was a police brotherhood group who, at that time, said that they do not have to risk harm to themselves in order to enforce the law or protect others. Where do you draw the line?
