I really don't want Strev throwing a ton of deep shots, it's not his game. However, he's gotta throw some long ones to keep the D honest. If he isn't a risk to throw he won't be able to run either. Last year was just insanity how we used him. He just got corked every game because they knew he wasn't throwing anything over 7 yards so they just set up a picket fence and teed off whenever he tried to run.

It seems outrageous to me that a player would be suspended based on not looking at his voicemails religiously. I check mine only when I recognize the number. Other than that it's like once a week or so. The CFL can be so infuriatingly bush league sometimes. I would 100% appeal.

My guess is SMS was a part of it too. He was on a 150k per contract with a 25k TC bonus coming. His injury, salary, and the fact that others stepped up well in his absence and may have passed him on the DC, made him expendable. He's not a bad player, and is likely a victim of losing his job through injury. Happens a 100x a year in football. Someone will pick him up.

I would think that is likely. He was extended last year on a two year deal but was back in the tub for most of the year. They likely just moved in a different direction and decided to save some SMS and roster space. He could be worth taking a flyer on. Not sure if he is better than anything we already have though.

Yea...most of our QBs in this league had good NCAA careers. They may not be the cream of the crop that goes to the NFL but many make a pretty decent chunk of change in college now. Any QB on a decent Div 1 team is cashing some nice cheques.

I totally agree. However, after some of the outright outrageous statements he has gone on public record with concerning our organization I am still a little suprised by the sudden turn. I agree. There is this misconception that playing time automatically makes a QB better. That is not necessarily true. Being ready for playing time is the priority. A QB only gets better with playing time once he is ready. You put a QB in that isn't ready and you destroy them, and the very best way for Elgersma to be pro ready is to be professionally developed.

The fact that Sheehan is a below average punter in our league led me to the conclusion he is not safe long before we drafted a decent punter. Now, I think he should be very worried.

My 2 cents on the draft overall is that I think we got two players that could turn this into a fantastic draft down the line in Shay and Elgersma. After that it's all about guys reaching their potential with not much in the sure thing department. All in all I give it a solid B....mainly because I really like Shay.

I would be pretty surprised if this was not a pick with STs in mind mainly. He's a project, and a long term one at that. He's going to have to show value on teams to get a sniff of the roster or PR. I doubt his son makes the club, and that will just add fuel to Ballsy's hate for us, maybe we just picked him so that we could all get a chuckle at Ballsy foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog when his son is released? Although, it might be funnier if we put him on the PR and just read Ballsy's weekly criticisms about how the Bombers are wasting a star player.

Scouting report on him is that he is good in the run block and a little slow in setting his feet in pass pro. Teachable stuff. Great attitude and physicality, that's not teachable. I like how the Bombers value the intangibles over the teachables along their lines. It has mostly served us well.

Ballsy's son is no joking matter. That lunatic is going to be stalking the Bomber offices now. DT is probably like WTF? Yea....better keep DT away from the stadium on cut down day. Might be too much for Ballsy to handle if his boy does not make it and the guy who took his dream job away is there.

I don't know what to make of this, they must have really liked this Bailey kid. Paid a lot for him. I will defer to our scouts and hope this is a great move.

A couple frustrating losses for sure. However, I thought we outplayed them pretty significantly last game in the first and then periods 2 and 3 were kind of even. It was a closer game than the score dictated because St. Loo had all the puck luck and we had none to speak of. We are going to need more at home, but I think we will get more at home. Those suggesting that St. Loo is hitting us out of the building need to look at the stats. The first game in Loo we outhit them, and last game we finished a couple hit shy of them. Our team will look a lot better getting Lowry/JoMo out against the Thomas line, and getting our first line out against their weak defensively 2nd line again. Match ups are huge in the playoffs and it is now advantage Winnipeg next game. I expect an entirely different result.

What talk? talk from who? Fans? Media? I'm not against the idea of moving on from him, but Jets management have not said a word to anyone regarding the matter. Bottom line is he is the only play driver they have for the 2nd line. If they are to move on from him they better be able to find another comparable play driver. Ehlers return could be a good thing or a bad thing, it will depend on cost. I don't believe for a second the Jets have no interest in him and I think they would be crazy not to, however, I do believe they have a max number on his worth and that number is probably not going to get it done.

Kate is awful, actually antagonizes her own panel for some odd reason. She thinks she is the star of the panel and gets upset at them if she perceives they are upstaging her. Just weird really.

Gotta give St. Loo some credit. They are playing us as hard as they can until we inevitable run them out of gas. It's kind of our game plan to wear teams down with our exceptional depth. It's how we are built. Roll 4 lines and just wear teams down until the wheels fall off.

If Laine ever learned to move his feet, and play with the edge that his size suggests he can, he would be elite. I don't know how to qualify him as anything other than a lazy player with extreme amounts of skill. Skill never trumps effort anymore, this isn't the 80's. It's too bad that this hasn't dawned on him yet, and looks likely that it never will. I doubt he ever doesn't have a place in the NHL somewhere, but his salary and his role is going to diminish a lot.

My only real point of concern this year is OL, really. Everything else I feel ranges from good to really good. Roster usage is going to be what it is, but I trust that we have the horses. Home GC so we will either be winning and roster usage becomes a non issue, or it costs us a game or two and the heat gets turned up on it. It's GC or bust this year, gotta be.

Zach Shnitzer has a podcast? What's a podcast? JK....really like his work on there and I still hold a grudge against Bauming for screwing Harris out of MOP. I will begrudgingly admit that he and Zach are very enjoyable to watch talking Bombers. I see Booch knows how to send comments to them on it, I don't so he must be a babyface too.

Probably the least of my concerns is the secondary, I think we will be really strong there again. I don't see Griffen as a prototypical CFL safety though. I will freely admit I don't know enough about his abilities to qualify my opinion as anything more than a hunch though. I, too like what he might bring closer to the LOS though.
