Tweaking Our Current Receivers
I'd agree if we were talking about 2011 Watson. We aren't. We probably never will see that player again. If we can get value for him and we turn it down hoping he's going to be more than an average player with some ability to do some good things every once and awhile when his body lets him, we're not building our team correctly IMO. This team is going to win in 2015 and 2016, and Watson likely will be a minor factor in that if he is at all.

Bo Adebayo pickup by Esks?
Situation is that we needed a DL... Pall was cut by Montreal and has barely played, Adebayo was on PR and has CFL experience Both were available. Except you can't simply claim a player off of a practice roster, that player has to agree to sign with the team attempting to claim him. Adebayo is from Edmonton, and he's played even less than Pall. He hasn't played less than Pall... Edmonton wasn't looking for DL depth when we were - Adebayo would not have said 'no thanks, waiting for someone to get injured in Edmonton...' Well, get your resume ready. Walters should be fired soon. Make sure you mention the Bo Adebayo fiasco and how you would have handled it differently in your interview.

Today's practice updates
Sherman is arguably the worst tackler we have on the field (Bucknor would be in that argument too), and he's pretty awful when he gets isolated in coverage too. A lot of our big breakdowns in D have been when he's been isolated, but it's been a combination of luck, Sherman mostly being used as a blitzer, a great safety and set of halfbacks who have saved our bacon for most of the season. Love Sherman's energy, he's pretty good at blitzing and he has a knack for getting the ball out of guys, but he's severely limited at this point.

Today's practice updates
Unless one of them handles all the returning, dressing two import tailbacks is a waste of a roster spot IMO. Not when Grigsby can't handle more than a dozen carries a game. Just hope they use the 2nd tailback and give him a chance.

Tweaking Our Current Receivers
I wouldn't trade him for just anything, but if we got offered a pick in the top 2 rounds in the 2015 draft, we'd be crazy to turn it down. Receiver is a relatively easy spot to find Canadians who can play (Kohlert and JFG are scrap heap guys), and Watson's value to our team is declining rapidly. We are desperately in need of Canadians who can play on D and OL, it might take moving out a guy like Watson to improve those areas, which IMO are more important, and more difficult to fill beyond the draft.

Harris out for season, Smith on 6 game IR
What the hell is an ankle separation?

Time for some tough love on....
They were having trouble the whole drive with the headset. Howell ran halfway on the field on one play to signal the call, Marve did the same on the first play from the 3.

Tweaking Our Current Receivers
I hope Walters is shopping Watson heavily heading towards the trade deadline. He's pretty close to the end of his useful career as a CFL receiver IMO. He might bounce around for another 3-4 years, but he's not going to be a top NI target. I could see Montreal and Toronto both being pretty interested, although Toronto has done a good job of drafting NI receivers, and they might prefer a guy like Adjei to Watson. Saskatchewan might be interested too with Getzlaf slumping and a few of their regular NI contributors on offence on IR.

I would argue that they have yet to come through when the game is on the line, at least I can't recall that scenario happening this season? First game in BC? At Montreal? At Hamilton? First home game against Saskatchewan? At home against Montreal? Banjo Bowl, continually getting the ball back to our offense in the 2nd half? Yesterday, again getting the ball back to our offense and holding Hamilton to field goals? Short memory? Yeah the defense has actually been quite effective for the most part this season. I dunno why people don't want to admit it. They haven't been a dominant D that can win games on their own, but it's rare that they have actually completely failed. Given this team chances to win most of the games. The biggest disappointment for this team has been the special teams by far. Expected a lot better out of them but they've made a lot of huge mistakes and basically cost the team several games. 4th in offense, 8th in defense, the stats speak for themselves. Cause the offense hasn't given up any points themselves this season, and the defense and special teams sure haven't scored any. 6th in offence, 5th in defense for yardage. The stats speak for themselves?

The Burris to SSK Saga
Any discussion of "cap space" prior to 2007 is irrelevant.

Defense has kept us in games far more times this season than they've contributed to losses. And the personnel on defense is very far from perfect as well, even within the confines of what Etcheverry prefers. You have to be pretty biased against Etcheverry to claim otherwise.

OLine
I don't think we've ever played a game with Knapp and Jones at guard and tackle. They played opposite tackles when January was out for a bit in the 2nd half of last season.

Time For The CFL To Levy Fines On The Refs For Tacky Calls
I don't know, there was one offensive lineman ahead of him with a blocker too. Not much else on that side of the field behind him. Unless someone had a jet pack on, Peach was gone as long as he doesn't trip over his own feet.

Key word is ballcarrier though. Sherman didn't have the ball so it doesn't matter if he loses his helmet. If they blew the play dead when a defender lost his helmet, guys on D would just keep popping their helmets off to kill plays.

Time for some tough love on....
With Grigbsy and no timeout, I'm not. The only run play I would have tried there is QB Draw. Hamilton wasn't going to let Grigsby beat them around the edge, and he can't make a cut to save his life between the tackles. A good idea in theory, but you may recall that the Bombers tried a QB draw a bit earlier and not only did it fail, it looked like a Keystone Kops routine. All it needed to complete the picture was the comedic sounds effects. And what was the gain on that play?

Time For The CFL To Levy Fines On The Refs For Tacky Calls
Sherman lost his lid on the play. Play is over at that point. Nope, he just can't participate further. He didn't have the ball. Ah .. difference between the CFL and NFL rule then .. It's pretty much the same rule. Play is only dead if the ballcarrier loses his helmet.

Time For The CFL To Levy Fines On The Refs For Tacky Calls
Sherman lost his lid on the play. Play is over at that point. About the only thing they could do is award the Bombers the ball .. there would be no ability to advance the ball. I know, that's why I said the blown call on the field cost our D a TD, and the blown review cost us 3 points.

OLine
Grigsby is so indecisive that I find it very difficult to judge our OL on run blocking. It's very rare for offensive linemen generally at this level to be poor run blockers though. I'd tend to tie most of our run game problems to Grigsby. I just don't think he is suited at all to running the ball in a zone blocking scheme, he needs to be told which gap he's running through. He also gets taken down by arm tackles consistently, so that makes the OL look much worse. Most RB's can bust through a guy getting a hand on their leg. Greaves had a really bad game last night. Hard time finding a block a lot of the time in pass protection as Willy was being snowed under, and when he did find a block he was getting driven through the pocket by Gaydosh and Hall. Jarvis Jones struggled too. A lot of the pressure was coming through the interior. Personally, from what we've seen of Goossen this season when he's had to come in at guard, I don't think he's a good enough blocker to play anywhere but centre, and that's where he's going to play for his CFL career. So yes, that would be much worse than Jarvis Jones. Hinse is also a guy who you don't want playing anywhere but centre for very long. Swiston's problems are health and conditioning, we don't know where he's at so it's hard to clamor for him to get on the roster.

Time For The CFL To Levy Fines On The Refs For Tacky Calls
This is very true. There have even been times when they haven't made calls on the field and solely relied on review. One play in the Banjo Bowl comes to mind but I can't remember the specifics, I just remember wondering how they were going to decide the review given that they didn't actually make a call on the field. I believe it was on a potential turnover. They need to add a commonsense element to the reviews, prioritize getting the calls right over policy and process, or get rid of them entirely.

Ellingson had the ball and pivoted to turn upfield, survived initial contact and then fumbled. There's no way that's an incomplete pass. Blown call on the field cost us 7 points, blown call on review cost us 3.

Willy's carrying the offense. No run game, one consistent playmaker, a bunch of guys who show up once a month (Kelly, Bryant, Watson). Hard for me to put much blame on him. Our team just isn't very good.
