Lirim Hajrullahu CFL West ST POY
Cornish had an all-time yards per game type season. I can understand the argument of not playing enough games, but if he played enough games to be Most Outstanding Canadian, he should be MOP too.

Als @ TiCats / Riders @ Eskis - The Final Showdown
Provided with 2 receivers who can catch anything within 10 yards of them and can't be covered, Crompton still completes half his passes. Says it all. He's like a poor man's Jay Cutler. Will be interesting to see what kind of deal Duron Carter gets from a NFL team. I bet he'll have offers from most teams.

Too Little for Ottawa in Expansion Draft?
There is no way to make it fair for an expansion team. No matter who they get, they are playing together for the first time and have to establish a foundation. An expansion draft can't do that. And really, to add to what Mike said, they came into the CFL Draft with two QB's who started the last two Grey Cups in Glenn and Burris, along with a guy who started and won a handful of games for BC in Demarco. You aren't going to get better than that as an expansion team. IMO, the expansion draft should only cover NI players if there is ever another one, felt that way before the last expansion draft too.

The Annual CFL Player Poll
I guess it's a good thing Ricky Ray is so "clutch," otherwise the .500 teams he leads year after year would be terrible.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
Actually it is quite different in that the CIS programs have funding from their schools which allows them to field their teams. The CJFL teams rely on funding from their CFL partners. Without that funding, the CJFL does not exist, so there would be no players to draft. Looking at the situation from a fan viewpoint may make sense for player selection, but it doesn't solve the funding issue, and it doesn't develop players who are not suited to the academic standards of the CIS. I'm not sure why you are linking financial support from CFL clubs with the territorial exemption. Why couldn't the CFL as a whole continue supporting junior football while entering all Canadian players into the draft? I don't think the Bombers write a cheque to the Rifles while having one Brett Carter on the roster every decade in mind. They aren't funding the Rifles to produce CFL players, they are doing it in good faith.

Bombers Lose NI Kyle Norris
Why would we want Stephan back? Never able to play, softer than kleenex when he does.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
The territorial exemption had its day. Previously teams had to "draft" players in their territory in a round prior to the draft of college players. Other junior players were free agents. In modern times, it makes little sense for Canadian players to be entering the league directly through multiple channels, they should all be subject to the draft. It just isn't equitable. Imagine if the Jets could only claim players from the Wheat Kings, while the Leafs had access to all the OHL teams in Southern Ontario, the Canucks had all the WHL teams in BC, but everyone could draft players from the CIS and NCAA. That's about as absurd as the current CFL system for NI's. The Bombers work with the Bisons, why aren't they entitled to their players too? That argument holds little water for me.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
Key point. Goodrich is as good of a prospect as Demski in terms of talent. He could be a very good CFL player.I like JFG and Kohlert, I don't think Watson has enough good plays left in him to be a main target. Probably the best territorial exemption we've had a chance at since I can remember.Equivalent of an additional first rounder in the CFL Draft, in my opinion. The fellows whose knowledge I defer to because they are infinitely more familiar with amateur football in this province said he was the second best receiving talent to come out of Manitoba behind Demski. How much of that is hyperbole? Couldn't say, but I certainly would not be in a position to argue with them. So it certainly sounds like we'd potentially be landing the equivalent of a free first round pick if we pulled something like that off. But he's not on our roster yet. It's true. Demski was a running back though. Switched to slot to get him on the field cause Coombs took the job at U of M. Both naturally gifted football players, Demski is only in year 2 as a full-time receiver. Not exactly sure what happened with Goodrich at U of M, but worked out better for the Bombers that he didn't last and wasn't draft eligible.

Bombers Make 7 Roster Changes vs Stamps
I liked all 3 of the DL. Hickman has a really good motor, looks like he can play inside and outside like Turner. Couple plays he made just through sheer hustle, never quits. Booker's the best DE we've put on the field this season. Marshall runs hard, big dude.

Bob Young Comments on CFL Officiating - Not Good Enough
That's giving way too much responsibility to officials who quite honestly are already overwhelmed. At what point does a penalty affect the result of the play or not (after yards gained provision already exists)? It's the slipperiest of slopes IMO and I don't think many coaches or GM's would go for it.

Willy, Bellefeuille, this one is on you guys!
Yup.. Threats of violence always make your point more valid.. Smh. No - thats more frustration I get what he's saying. It can be infuriating when a 'fan' only see's what they want to see. Willy had all kinds of time to throw, he had receivers open. It was hilarious, on the telecast, Suitor tried to make a point that all the receivers were covered. The 'short' receiver was about 6 yards underneath the coverage, but of course Suits was on a roll so he said he was 'covered'. About 10 minutes of game time after that, Beck got the snap, turned, and fired a dart to Gore I believe it was, who was 'wide open' just like the bomber receiver was above, only the bomber defender was about 3 yards off him. It's amazing all the apologists there are for Drew 'freakin' Willy. At least more fans are finally starting to see what I've been seeing since mid-August. He hasn't nearly been good enough, and tonight was his worst start yet (but low an behold he finally threw another TD pass). But yeah, I get his frustration. Unless you know what the read progression is on the play that is called, it is impossible to say "he had receivers open." Probably the biggest fallacy in football from a fans point of view, when everyone goes "hey, that guy is open!" Ya, but it's the QB's 6th read, and the by the time the ball gets to him the DB or LB is going to completely fill in the "opening" most of the time. About as dumb as the people who yell "shoot" all the time on the powerplay at a hockey game. Are you a pro Qb? Juran, I'll ask you then you seem to 'know your stuff'. Explain to me how our second stringer, Brian Brohm, and our third stringers, Robert Marve, can, with the same receivers, same oline, and same OC, and same play calling, make plays, and Willy can't? This is a legit question 'cause I definitely don't have a clue. Thanks in advance Willy had a bad game. Doesn't change the point of my other^ post, we can't know if he had receivers "open" or not because we don't know what he was looking at before or during the play. Unless you have access to the coaches film it's a complete assumption to make watching on TV or from the stands. BC has a great secondary, that's part of it. Our scheme with Willy doesn't move him around a lot. Hard for us to say if that is Bellefeuille's fault, Willy's fault (in terms of him preferring to take a straight drop) or a combination. Our scheme for Brohm vs Calgary moved him and the pocket around a lot, even though he isn't a "mobile" QB. Did he "make plays?" I wouldn't say he did anything special. He was steady, but it was pretty obvious that the game was simplified for him with the rollouts which essentially shorten the field, make throws and reads a little quicker. Marve was just blind luck IMO, and even at that he completed 50% of his passes while continually putting the ball in harms way. Why they don't do for Willy what they did for Brohm (it sure worked) is my question.

Cotton BABY!
That says everything you need to know about how teams feel about the Riders without Durant "we can beat them with our backups" Cornish is just that real good mix of speed and power. He's big and strong and has good enough balance he can run through tackles but he's also fast enough to break some big runs if he gets a hole. If you can draw up the kind of running back every team wants to have that's the guy there. They just don't want Brackenridge to hurt JonJon before the playoffs. Brackenridge is still playing? Haven't noticed him much.
-
Cotton BABY!
Yep, BC didn't cover our receivers or anything like that.

Grigsby Now A Tiger Cat
As long as he's not stealing them like our QB from last year.

Robert Marve
Not old enough to remember CFL Warren Moon, but NFL Warren Moon sure as hell wasn't a scrambling QB, more like a good version of Henry Burris. Dunigan wouldn't be a scrambling QB in my mind either.
-
Robert Marve
facepalm statemetn of the year. Didn't complete 60% of his passes until he was 34 years old. Career QB rating of 84. If Steven Jyles played for 23 seasons, he'd have the passing yards record too.

Should The Bombers Play 3 RBs At A Time To Help Protect The QB?
Pontbriand played a ton of fullback last night.
-
Robert Marve
Doug Flutie is the greatest QB and player the CFL has ever had.............. not a pocket QB. Warren Moon, Jackie Parker, Damon Allen, Russ Jackson, I can go all day, were not pocket QB's. Damon Allen was a pretty average QB who lasted a long time. Flutie could throw from the pocket if defense's forced him to. That's the important distinction. Guys can be good as scramblers, but if teams fan their ends and force him to stay in the pocket, can he make the throws? Collaros hasn't shown that he can yet IMO, whenever he's been forced to stay in the pocket he has struggled significantly. Scrambling QB's who can't pass are the easiest ones to stop, cause all a defense has to do is be patient and force him to make throws, if he can't make them his team is SOL.

Cotton BABY!
The entire offense would have had a much easier time with a back who could have put us into 2nd and 5 or 6 consistently vs getting nothing on most of his carries and the odd 40 yard burst. Teams have literally been teeing off on our offensive line and Willy because we had no running threat, and Grigsby didn't make anyone second guess a blitz cause all they had to do was make contact to get him down, he couldn't make anyone miss or fight through contact so literally no threat to get past that first wave on a blitz. IMO, we probably win 2-3 more games with a running threat like Cotton was last night.

Quarterback controversy?
To be honest I don't know if he was good or lucky on that completion he made on that "Houdini" play. If I had my druthers I would have been very happy with him throwing the ball out of bounds on that kind of play because typically that throw would end up as a pick. That one and about 3 more. I hope the people who are happy with his reckless play when it works aren't the ones jumping on his back when it doesn't, but we know how that goes.

GDT: Bombers vs Stamps
Kohlert looks like an impact Canadian to me.

Props to the O-line
Having a running back who actually understands how to find the gaps in zone blocking and get a few yards on his own was a nice change of pace. Too bad we were out of the playoff running when we made that change, could have been a much different season offensively and a much simpler game for our QB had the change been made early in the season.

Quarterback controversy?
Brohm looked real good to me, and he looks better each time he plays. It's too bad he's done for the season. Marve looked like a guy who is a home run hitter, the type who will strikeout a ton too. Tonight he hit a couple home runs, but some of those throws...
