And Hilary Clinton was supposed win handily, according to this exact same source.

I would trade the quality of those broadcasts for being able to watch all the games.

That’s happening. Kids are back in school here, borders are loosening up, restaurants are opening, etc.

    1. We all understand your frustration. 2. There really wasn’t any way for government or law enforcement to effectively and peacefully stop the protests. 3. There was really no way for Dr. Roussin to say the protests were a bad idea and shouldn’t have happened. Perception is 9/10s of reality, and some would have perceived such comments as racist.

Oh excellent, those are fine ideas. Not to take this thread too far off topic, but the usual portrayal and perception of Tommy Douglas is very interesting. When one knows that he believed in and promoted eugenics, statements such as the one above ring rather hollow.

I was not even aware of that, but I am not surprised at all. We get 'some' of the same treatment. Eg. I have never stolen anything in my life, but I have been followed in some stores.

I can absolutely believe this, and I'll tell you why. As most of you know by now, I'm a Hutterite. We are sort of the perfect test case for the spreading of germs. We eat communally three times daily (buffet style), we sit just a few feet apart in church, and when it comes to the children, there literally is no separation at any time. Now, when schools closed on March 23, we all started eating at home, one person from each family went to get food, and this was coordinated so that we had low numbers of people in the kitchen at any given time. School was online / home school and church was over the public address system. People from other communities could not visit us, and vice versa. During March and April, which tend to still be prime cold and flu season due to weather and temperature variations - can you guess what happened? I'm sure you can - colds and flus were (and still are) drastically reduced, almost non - existent. We probably won't be able to maintain these practices indefinitely, but some of them will certainly stay in place.

Ok man, good comeback. For the record, I was done with Mack after his first year.

I guess if we need another answer as to why the protests were allowed - they were OUTSIDE. OUTDOORS. NOT INDOORS.
  11. Mark H. replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
Well, that’s because the answer I gave is the only one available right now. They rolled the dice, and now we’ll wait and see if anything happens. As far as the U.S. is concerned, Trump shutting down the protests due to Covid 19 would simply be hypocrisy at its finest. The media would roast him on a spit - to a crisp.

Ok, fair comments. 👍 Some of the procedures you mentioned are in place at schools, so changes in other work places should not be far behind, or already in place. Where it gets tricky is when people have pre - existing conditions and/or compromised immune systems. Also, not all of our elderly citizens live in personal care homes.

I think they basically just decided that #BLM protests were too important and they didn’t want to deal with the optics of shutting them down. I think they’re rolling the dice on this one.

Either Cinderella is a fairy tale or Winnie the Pooh consists of real life events.

Precisely. Which is really exactly what the experts were hoping would happen! I mean, if we had thousands of cases, I guess some people would be saying that’s their fault too.
  16. Mark H. replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
Because no specifics for how you would protect the elderly are ever stated. You would have to do a lot more than tighten restrictions at personal care homes.

You asked if we were going to see a spike in Covid. I said 'it depends on where the gathering is.' I wasn't referring to the rules of less than 50. There are many places where probably nothing much is going to happen.
  18. Mark H. replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
Ok, which ones should have been listened to? Because different approaches were taken (or none were taken) and infection rates were higher United States, Italy, Sweden
  19. Mark H. replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
Depends where the gathering was. Eg. Manitoba is quite stable, so the gathering that happened here is not a good test case.

Maybe the vaccine turns out to be one that is only given to older people - or maybe people will need a booster shot when they're older. But I do think, based on the stats and information we now have, that the approach to Covid 19 will change. Eg. I don't think schools will be completely closed again, but procedures will change and we might see a blend of remote and on - site learning. One thing that does bother me in all of this, is the people who find ways to take advantage. Eg. they are 'isolating at their cabin' and require 6 weeks worth of school work for their child.

I am referring to being anti - vax in general. As in, not even taking polio vaccine. I have no patience for that kind of thinking.
  24. Mark H. replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
Anti - vax rhetoric deserves to be shouted down.

Definitely. In our school, washing your hands when you arrive and when you leave is going to become a firm policy.
