  1. "My life is football" "I want to change that. I need to change that." That's why it's a bit sad.
  2. Almost sad in a way.
  3. Can he? He's never been a GM with a salary cap.

I don't really think hiring anyone from Saskatchewan breaks away from the "Incest is Best" theme.

Simply put, what you want does not exist. Also, your criteria for what makes a good coach and what does not is faulty. I don't care if a guy has experience in the CFL as an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator or coordinator of the dietary concerns for vegan defensive backs. It simply does not matter. There is a reason why a guy like Pinball can retire and go straight to a head coaching position and it works while a guy like Burke with an absolutely sparkling resume as a coordinator falls short. It is not about your experience with playbooks or schemes. Above everything else, you have to be a leader and a manager of people. Experience in the CFL to be aware of the game and it's intricacies is important and a requirement no doubt, but it simply does not matter where that experience is from to me. If a guy can lead, he can lead. If he can't, he can't. The chain of development for a head coach is not like a quarterback where you move from 3rd string (positional coach) to 2nd string (coordinator) to starter (head coach), you either have the ability to lead or you do not. Give me the right personality over the right resume every day
  6. I'd be surprised if O'Day took the interview, to be honest.
  7. Give me a break with your witch hunt. He's going to be the team conditioning guy, not the assistant GM, and optics aside he's a great hire. Who cares who hires the person for that role whether it's Miller, Walters or the Queen of England
  8. I don't expect we'll give up a first rounder. I do expect we'll swap with Toronto though. That being said, without trying to get your hopes up, you should be confident that Collaros will sign with us when we trade for us. We'll have the ability to talk contract beforehand because unbelievably, Collaros actually wants to come to Winnipeg so Toronto will want to maximize their return. Really ? Because all indications are that Collaros wants to try the NFL this off season. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/11/18/zach-collaros-free-to-move-on http://www.cjob.com/2013/11/19/brown-confirms-he-was-asked-to-un-retire/ So do I. I'd say our chances are about the same.
  9. So basically Walters is the GM and Miller is making all the hirings and decisions ? I guess if that is what you want to read into it for no reason whatsoever, that's up to you.

Steve Simmons should watch what he says about something being desolate or depressing. He's not exactly an image of excitement himself.
  11. I was being facetious. My point is why doesn't miller just make that call then. Why the pretence of an exhaustive search. It's silly. And it lends itself to criticism of miller Well obviously it can't happen at the moment
  12. I can't believe people keep asking this redundant "well how can we hire coaches without a GM" question. Obviously Walters is the GM.

I feel like O'Shea could be good but he may need to learn how to walk that line between hard ass that gets tuned out and a no nonsense leader that players bust their ass for. Just my opinion though. I think he's a good option.
  14. What would be wrong with McManus? He's the head US scout for a team that has found some solid US talent and he's got great credibility amongst big players in CFL circles
  15. are you willing to acknowledge now that Dickenson not wanting to come to Winnipeg had nothing to do with Winnipeg itself?

  17. I would expect a swap of firsts and something like a 2nd rounder next year. Don't expect we'll have to give up a first outright although if we HAD to, I would

Denmark has had the same receivers coach since he's been in the CFL.

That's not the bottom line at all. He came into the season with 7 division all-stars from last year. He had last year's most outstanding rookie. He had a MLB who was well on his way to being an all-star. Hell, last year we were the only team in the CFL with 3 players who compiled over 1000 yards. We had talent and while it wasn't this world beating roster with all-stars across the board, he was given some very good pieces to work with. **** happened that was both beyond and within his control, but the fact of the matter is that the biggest talent deficit on this team just happens to be at the most important position. I'm just tired of hearing you knock the entire roster just because one spot on it is absolutely abysmal.

You can stand by your fact but it doesn't make it right. How can you say a 3-15 team has talent? Sure, at a few positions but overall, not enough. Take Ricky Ray out of the equation, and insert Justin Goltz, or Jason Boltus., you're not getting close to half the same results. Sometimes a great player at a key position makes everybody around them better by association. except that Ricky was out of the equation for 8 games... and while nobody could say that the offence was as good without him, the team wasn't crippled. except that your backup was still miles ahead of where our QB were
  21. Didn't Buchko have 3 years left on his deal ? Did he receive a one time buyout ? At the time he resigned, he had essentially 18 months left on his deal and he took a severance package
  22. ... one Buchko and Burke is at least two, no? We aren't paying Buchko. And as of right now, we're not paying Burke to sit on his ass either.

^^^ all about talent vs. performance I'll stand by the fact that with a proper QB, we have TALENT on offence already to complement that QB. Without a QB, their performance will suffer.

The truth is somewhere in between. We had a combination of the worst talent in the league & a bad coaching staff, possibly the worst in the CFL. Edmonton's in that conversation; Reed seemed to lose his sanity as the season went on and made some very strange decisions. His "consequences" rant is up there for the worst coach media scrums I've ever seen. 17to85 wouldn't (couldn't) answer the question so I'll put it to you, what other team's roster would you take ours over? I get your point and truthfully, I wouldn't take any roster over ours but that's not a testament to the overall level of talent. Take QB out of the equation and I'd put our roster up against a handful of others around the league.
