  1. There is a high school in Alabama that has a "Rebel Man" mascot that is basically an old South plantation owner. Here is an article and some pictures of the mascot. There is a movement underway to replace / change the mascot. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/alabama-high-school-reconsiders-rebel-man-mascot-represents-civil-war-history/
  2. Earlier in the game, I think using pure math like this can make sense. Come the second half and especially the 4th quarter the score has to be taken into account to decide what to do. If your touchdown puts you two points ahead of your opponent, do you really want to risk that 49.9% chance (or whatever the number is) of missing your 2 point convert, or take the more likely scenario of being up by a field goal.
  3. Throw in Kane in Buffalo and you wonder what kind of "mentors" Eichel will have in Buffalo.

hmmmm....football is a game of inches...that could catch on! Get with the times- its "a game of centimeters" now. 9.14 metres for a first down?
  5. I don't know what that guy was doing when he was leaning over the girl, but the thing that jumped into my mind is that he was filming her laptop. I know when I'm at work my laptop could have sensitive data on it and I would be very unhappy to have someone lean in and film it. I'm betting that Skidmore and the city have a long long history. And while definitely not an excuse for how it was handled, I think it was kind of a setup on both sides. They wanted him to do something to justify them calling security. And he wanted them to do something to get it on camera. Unfortunately they both got their wish.
  6. That is a crazy video. Re-watched it a couple of times, it looks like the guard only pulls his gun after he is being attacked. In that situation though, I don't think pulling his gun is warranted. There is a 2nd security guard in the room and if he would have defended and fought back rather than reach for the gun, he could have easily of overpowered the man. Damn lucky no one got shot. The guard should have used verbal words to identify himself and ask the man to leave before grabbing his camera. The Skidmore guy I think was trying to make a point about not knowing what the guards are when he fought back. Stupidity all around on that one.

Here is an interesting article on the Jets prospects, how they did at this years draft and Chevy's philosophy. http://www.todaysslapshot.com/nhl-prospects-2/nhl-prospects-winnipeg-jets-top-5-for-2015/

Probably Postmas last contract with the Jets. Wonder if he is traded at some point.

Can't see Morrissey making the Jets out of camp. Too many NHL defensemen ahead of him. Could see him being a potential injury call-up during the season to get a chance. The way things are shaping up right now, barring any more signings, I think a minimum of two rookie forwards and maybe up to three. I think they are: Copp as 4th line centre And one or two of Ehlers, Petan, Armia, Lemieux
  11. This isn't an encouraging start for my Pick 'Ems this week.
  12. Ya just have to wonder who encourages him to come up with that ****. Mrs. Black?
  13. Ugly pick from Burris to get things going, Would really like to see Ottawa stay hot for this game.
  14. I'll give credit to Friesen for publishing an alternative view to his prior article. Dunigan ways in on the Willy hit and says he believes Willy didn't suffer a concussion. Whatever side of the fence you fall on, or whatever you believe, truth is only Willy really knows what happened, how he was hit, and whether or not he lost consciousness. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/07/09/blue-bombers-quarterback-drew-willy-not-afraid-to-take-a-hit-vs-alouettes

Is that allowed? I thought if you have junior eligibility left you have to go back to junior. You are correct. He will either be with the Jets or sent back down to Juniors next year. No Moose for Lemieux.
  16. The best sports writers in the country don't cover the CFL. Why would you expect the best from the B Team? You are pretty quick to criticize the club and coaches but happy to give the media a pass. The best athletes in the country don't play in the CFL. Why would you expect the best from B players and coaches?

Two weeks in and people are starting to separate themselves. Picking has been tough in the first couple weeks of the CFL season as teams establish their pecking orders. Fist place is currently a four-way tie between: Blueandgold Jacquie Mark F USABomberFan All with 5 out of 8 correct picks. Week 3 picks need to be in before 8PM on Thursday. Picks can be made here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=games&pid=6&wid=73
  18. There is a difference between reporting nothing (ie. not tweeting at all) And reporting that you are doing nothing.
  19. I disagree with this. In this new media age, tweeting is part of their job. It should be used to push followers / readers to their columns. It should be to gain trust from and expand their followers base to drive more traffic to their respective papers. Those tweets do nothing to make me want to read tomorrow's column. At least for Bob Irving, he doesn't have a column.

I think it will end up being an AAV of just over $6M per year ... around $6.2 Hopefully doesn't take him past 35.

I don't think Petan will stick with the club if he is put on the 4th line. He will be better served getting top line minutes with the Moose. However, the only way I could see it happening, is if Maurice goes with a big change in how the 4th line is used. No doubt that the Jets early playoff exit was in part to injury and the amount of minutes the top line guys logged. It was often a story about how little the Jets 4th line is used when compared to some of the other teams with better depth like St Louis. I wonder if they put more skilled guys down there, if they don't get more playing time. A possibility, but I find it an unlikely scenario.
