  2. If you had told me Smeckel would be in our starting roster prior to training camp I would say either your nuts or we drafted terribly. Kudos to him for having worked so hard to belong. For the first game you know O'Shea was going to have vets start out of respect and I can't blame him But i wouldn't be surprised by end of game if a number of so called backups ended up playing more snaps Also many seem to be inferring that Younger and Buck have no say in the lineups, since their futures lie in teams performance I find that hard to believe
  3. I think part of the reason Zac isn't playing is we're still evaluating the oline, Until we have our number one unit I can't see having Zac in and risking a big hit on a breakdown . We have Coleman, Ivy, Dobson Wallace and Lofton as starting. Yikes. It is concerning that we havent narrowed down the candidates more throughout the lineup. Depth Charts: Begelton starts as Stamps face Bombers in preseason - CFL.ca
  4. We do need a guy with potential to replace schoen or lawler if we can't afford both next year
  5. Sorry, i dont buy the argument that lbs aren't key parts of defense. (Especially in our defense where lbs are critical parts of qb pressures) The criticism of Bighill performance isn't new, but not sure its warranted. I agree the concern on health is.
  6. It was Kramdl's turn yesterday, today Bighill. You'd think our defense was the worst in the league ly, oh wait no one gave up less points than us Hard to do if your lbs arent performing
  7. Kramdl as mentioned before is a decent sam , my concern is hes being paid to be more than that.Especially since we dont have a strong need for a starting cdn.
  8. just saw the db salaries on 3down, I had no idea we would be paying Kramdl top db money (1. Between him and Lawton feells like 125-139k . and Lawton 135k. Feels like we are overpaying . Especially if |Cole moves to that position. Could have used that for de .
  9. its only day 1.. hard to read anything into it. For wr they likely just went alphabetically so ALston was first up😉 Oshea did confirm that several of the cuts were for injury related reasons ie Bennet. Fayad, Randolph, who will be reassessed when healthy. (wonder if any were due to conditioning concerns? )
  10. He hasn't been charged with a criminal offense so likely not an issue. Wonder if Argos will try to trade next years first round pick for Masoli or perhaps Ford.
  11. the only thing is Menard is the same age as Thomas with worse stats, If it was 2 years ago Menard, maybe
  12. Didn't think it was possible that his 2nd effort would be worse than his first, but he managed to do it. Arku first overall? Us taking a player at 8th not even ranked in cfl top twenty scouting bureau rankings? Muembi ahead of Straker? And as mentioned no olineman in a draft said to be the best for oline in years.?
  13. nah I don't feel bad, Kongbos last year was 2021. In 2022 we went thru Wilcox and Keion Adams, neither of which worked out for us. Last year when we didn't have Jeffcoat in the lineup, it was very noticeable. We've been able to find dt's but de's that can play both the run and rush the passer aren't easy to find. You need to check your facts.
  14. We've always been looking to find a rotational end, When Haba has been in hes had mixed reviews. Maybe with a year under his beélt he will be better. The question is whether he hasn't reps because coaches didn't have enough confidence in him? With the amount jeffcoats been hurt opportunities have existed.
  15. Last year a lot of fans were calling on Walters to sign lemon, Finding a impactful de is not easy, we' ve been looking for several years and the best we' ve found is Haba, whose results have been mixed
  16. interesting quote from draftdiamonds scouting report Synopsis: Eric Barriere is a stronger quarterback prospect than fellow Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams, who ultimately spent time playing in the CFL. While he may not project as a first round pick, he is the type of player that represents a strong value and investment on draft day. Barriere stands out as one of the top, if not the top, prospects in FCS football heading into the draft, and while he does have room to develop, he also showcases the work ethic necessary to grow. His best fit is on a team with an older established starter where he will have a season or two to learn the system before being thrust into a starting role, but his ceiling is not that of a career backup
  17. The players above were still starters, and when you introduce new players, especially those without cfl experience there os a learning curve. Luckily enough we have a strong coaching and scouting crew to help with that Regarding Stanback obviously they feel he's an upgrade to what they had,but I agree his best years are done
  18. Not saying they are any better as a team, but they' ve done a good job of minimizing losses. In comparison we lost Jeffcoat ,Walker, houston, Grey and Bailey which we need to replace with entry level guys. Time will tell.
  19. Bc lost fewer players than we did and did a better job, for now. replacing them. ie lost Betts > Robertson Rhymes> Stanback (giving them more balance) Whitehead .> Mcinnis Edward -Cooper > Ciante Evans Baron > Richardson We were neck and neck with them in the standing most of the year, whether we repeat will depend on our recruiting
  20. another sleeper is Keytoan Thompson wr, at 6 ft 4 good speed and size
  21. In reading up about combines, the thing is combine results do appear to have a correlation to how players get drafted, but are very limited in usefulness in regards to actual on field success. the forty yard dash is mostly relevant to running backs, and actually the first 10 yards of the forty are the most relevant. (which makes sense when you think of dline linebackers etc). The vertical jump is more relevant but even so isn't a good indicator of success. Teams really should rely on their scouting of games, and game film versus being overly swayed by the combine.
  22. actually haba ran 4.69 Celestin Haba - OLB - Texas AM-Commerce - 2023 Draft Scout/NCAA College Football I'd love to see them sign Kongbo as well
  23. he looks to be stronger than Haba, but slower as well. Maybe he loses a bit of weight to help.
  24. If Grant doesn't sign, maybe we could sign Lucky, while he might not be as good as Grant, he would be another weapon on the offence. Bonus is he would qualify as a designated national.
  25. I believe your question was "I wonder what is historically a worse pick in the first round of the cfl draft, a fb or a wr.?" Tyson Philpot 532 yds ly, 459 yds in 2022 so basically a thousand yards by himself, and the gamebreaking play against us in the grey cup Jalen Philpot hurt in 2023 317yd in 2022 also returned 21 kickoffs for 573 yards and a league-leading 27.3-yard average, Emililus 1097 yards ly If you look at the last 4 drafts there is a lot of less than stellar picks at most positions except fb because none were chosen It all boils down to the individual player ie Demski, Emilus, Gittens jr are all top players and being paid as such
