CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
That’s a good point. Idk what tsn pays but Im sure it sucks. Who knows ssk or edm might be dumb enough to give him 250-350k in the off season. Cf is gonna be going into camp next year battling a guy like brown for a starting job and has basically no chance to actually win. Time to be a back up

Blm has been burn toast for a good while. Those guys were just not insulated with the right talent and system. Blm has had the talent and system to succeed. Agree on both. and honestly that’s a great thing for the league. He’s incredible. I’d take him in the booth happily as well too.

Rourke won’t be back imo. Brown will get 250-300k imo. If you’re a team with a young un proven qb or journey men he’s an excellent addition to fight for the starting spot in camp and have the other guy back up. Teams like ham ott mtl could jump in on that. Teams like Edmonton maybe ssk could go after him to start for a bit more money.

He’s sprinting a big but not even in pads. No chance and likely not next week either imo Maruo also made a really stupid move that is bench worthy and un disciplined on teams. We could maybe get a new punter that isn’t global lol. Iirc you can roster 3 globals but at the cost of a da

Hansen in for maruo, haba in for Jackson. That’d instantly make the roster much better. So probably won’t happen. Hansen probably back then haba to the pr so he can get plucked by some other team.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
I think most of the guys who sit pr for min are rookie imps who waited for an nfl deal soo long they missed the season and come up when the pr expands. Hard to say no to any money when you miss out the rest of the year.

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Calvillo was certainly a gun slinger for most of his career. Real late he played more Ricky ray type football. But the prime ALs days and especially before that he was chucking deep taking risks and etc. 99 when he really cemented him self as the ALs qb he was tossing 10.4 yards per pass. Kari was averaging 8 when he took the same step with us. 5.1% passes go for tds in his that span Vs khari with 5.5 Zach with 5.3 Harris with 4.5 and ray with 4.4. Put that in comparison with Danny Mac who had a career 3.9. Also in that 5 year span 99-03 calvillo had a combined 1190 rush yards and 10 tds. (In an era when qb keepers on the goal line was a rarity.) ac had the second biggest career revamp going from a running gun slinging 4 WRs with 1k plus to a possession passing game west coast classic. Damon Allen being the biggest revamp imo

19% would sound better if they averaged close to 20k. They claimed 11k in 22 and in no way shape or form had more than 5k in reality. Who know how many actually paid. They claim close to 15k now. I’d believe maybe 8-9k. And again I wouldn’t be surprised to find out a few thousand or more were freebies. Realistically a cfl team should be averaging 24-25k with atleast one or two 30k games a year. Even when the Mathew’s powered ALs were dominant, 20k was a real struggle for them financially. And that was 20 ish years ago.

You’d be surprised. Plenty of imps get full time pay to be on the pr. It’s at the discretion of the team. I bet Richmond is getting that. Dudes not sitting on our pr and it for pennies in his now late 20s.

Yep. Though I could see the usfl stepping up possibly. Mhm and I feel like they have a few guys who will be high on the free agency radar. I sure wouldn’t wanna give him that kind of money. But I would rather be in that situation than in a spot like half the league with journeymen or worse QBs.

Farhan says this will make him the highest paid player in the league. Good luck in the off season Argos lol

Yeah love the dude on and off the field. I don’t think he’s worried about money. But I also don’t think he will want to play till his wheels fall off. andrew Harris pushed him self out. He failed to take care of him self in the off season or rehab properly. He popped for steroids. He was refused to do what is pretty common for an athlete his age.

Which does make me wonder why he wouldn’t try xfl or usfl but those do pay peanuts.

Not here, we don’t have a spot. In general. We aren’t going older that’s for sure. The offer was not pr. There is no pr offer in the off season. Cfl contracts don’t work that way. Yep. Which is totally reasonable in that situation. Wonder what he is getting this year too. Bet it’s still more than Brady lol. The bombers were clearly surprised when he signed in to And passes to WRs that are at rb depth.

More and more nfl teams are pring risky high upside athletes with low experience. Ayo oyelola is still with the jags after we had him. Doesn’t take much for a coach to fall in love with an athletic guy who is high character or has some specific tangible they look for. I’d love to have both here still. I wish we had more guys like ayo and less like machino, schmekel or even schmitz.

We had a contract offer in for him, he declined the contingencies. So no we didn’t 100% not want him back. Harris is still capable of a Demski esq role in the slot position too imo. Maybe 80 or 85% as effective as a slot but that’s still a lot. Yeah that’s a whole lot of production for a 4th wr. I could see a push for woli to take an even friendlier team deal bolo right on his heels. And I think he would though I don’t think woli plays into his mid 30s.

Surprised Kelly is not gonna try fa even cfl fa it is really good for the league though. Imo it’d be better if he wasn’t in a dead market but hey young good qb staying is good news. I wonder how much he got? I can’t imagine it’s low. Argos probably pulling a bomber move handing out the remaining bonus cap money this year to reduce his cap hit next.

He moved on from us because we wanted stipulations that he would play games and have a proper off season and under estimated some one else’s willingness to over pay him. Baileys production for his amount of reps and being the last imp on the hot list plus his blocking and leadership are worth a lot. No doubt he could be a 1k plus guy with ease if he was a teams no1 or 2 target.

Yeah I love coles aggressiveness, athleticism and football iq. He gives up the body to make the play for the team soo often too. Gotta work a guy like that in more and more. Yeah he’d be a lot of fun to see at S. it’d be great to get him rotating in as an extra s instead of Hallett and really get ba to mentor him. That’s the perfect guy to learn from.

Man a good ni hback who could fill the role of Jackson would be sick. And that is sad. You’re right that the pool has been thinner and the nfl has been digging deeper into cfl ol talent pools. That said in the past we have chased guys with nfl camp invites on ol and other wise.

Hopefully some one young in the defensive side. The dark side needs fresh blood.

Imo not unless we find another schoen Esq star impact rookie on a cheap deal in camp. We need to get back to drafting high upside ol. Since Dobson the pipeline has been empty. And we will need to have good young guys in those back up spots, not new versions of kola. I can’t not imagine moving on from Cole. He’s shown soo many glimpses of being special. So it’ll probably be him going lol Agree.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
The min imp deal is like 65k. Vs Bailey at 100k. Darby is similar. So that’s 75k minimum. Augustine is very close to Brady with about 100k. The cfl min for nis is 54k. Giving us another 46k for 121k. Neufeld we don’t know his salary. But it’s safe to say around 125-150k. Again that would go down by about half for some one like eli if not more. Then the ni to replace Eli would go down by another 30k. So likely that saves in the range of 60-75k for some thing in the range of 180-195k. With all those savings we could add an impact cfl vet free agent and give brady the 150k range he deserves.

I think brown will be getting low end starter money offers in the off season. But Augustine too. He’s not versatile at all and inconsistent plus un used running the ball. Can’t pay him Brady money. Brady will get a raise too but probably not more than say 50k. I don’t think he has any interest in leaving either. When we go younger on the ol and finally start eli and eventually Dobson they will be cheaper than our starters and new back ups will be cheaper than them too double savings. You know Darby isn’t cheap, Bennett is probably over paid a good bit. Clements being a vet is probably over paid.
