Posted October 28, 201410 yr comment_91695 @garylawless: word on #cfl street is #riders OL Ben Heenan will not re-sign prior to free agency. Heenan is the prized UFA in CFL and wants to test market
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91698 I'll believe it when I see it. They will give him the money. If they have to cut Picard to afford it and start Clark or Watman at Centre, then so be it. Heenan will be a Rider.
October 28, 201410 yr Author comment_91700 @garylawless: expect #argos OL Tyler Holmes to join Heenan in free agency although #redblacks will have a crack at bringing him back to his hometown #cfl @garylawless: few in #cfl circles expect Heenan to sign elsewhere but do expect him to test market and establish his worth before re-upping with #riders
October 28, 201410 yr Author comment_91705 Time for us to over pay Agreed. Give either one (or both) of them Drew Willy money.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91707 Back up the money truck Walters and put out some big ones for Heenan. Would be nice to see a little payback for the Labatte theft. Holmes wouldn't be too bad either.

October 28, 201410 yr comment_91713 Riders are going to lose someone they don't want to lose, but I'd be absolutely shocked if it was Heenan.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91723 If you're a top O-lineman, you'd almost be crazy to NOT test the FA waters. I'm with Mike...The Riders will lose someone they don't want to, but it wont be Heenan.

October 28, 201410 yr comment_91726 Does Picard play positions other than centre? Maybe. But he's no more than an average lineman at this stage of his career.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91764 Make them pay to keep him. No harm in throwing him a ridiculous offer.
October 28, 201410 yr Author comment_91770 If I'm Walters I make Heenan a 3 year offer worth $1 million. I'm serious.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91772 Offer big money to both, increase if needed, hope for the best. Imagine if Walters landed both?
October 28, 201410 yr Author comment_91777 I'm 4 months away from getting excited about this. Get ready for 4 months of discussion on this.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91784 I'm 4 months away from getting excited about this. Get ready for 4 months of discussion on this. Yes, I can see the next few months of FA talk - Heenan, Holmes, and any other breathing soul who might be approaching the realms of Free Agency. The list will start one way, veer off another way, and get shortened as the months go by, and somehow..Walters will be expected to sign 'em all. Yikes.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91791 If I'm Walters I make Heenan a 3 year offer worth $1 million. I'm serious. This caught me off guard. But then I thought about it ... and I don't think you're too far off.
October 28, 201410 yr comment_91792 Remember when lawless said this weeks ago and a bunch of you went on about how lawless was just making stuff up? Because he's fat I guess.
October 29, 201410 yr comment_91796 There's no point in starting a bidding/salary war just to be poopheads. Heenan isn't going anywhere and the Riders will juggle things to make it so, so the other GMs will back off quickly. Holmes is a legitimate target and worth pursuing and Walters had better be in at the finish here.
October 29, 201410 yr comment_91818 Riders are going to lose someone they don't want to lose, but I'd be absolutely shocked if it was Heenan. You are correct. Potential riders to go if push comes to shove would include Picard, Fulton or maybe Best. Bottom line is we have way too much cap space tied up in this group. At this point Labatte is the only untouchable on that line followed by Heenan.

Actually what Lawless said was that Walters should sign Heenan, which we all know (the intelligent ones anyway) the chances of that happening are slim and none. If Heenan does test free agency, he'll be there about as long as Josh Bourke was before Montreal re-signed him.
