Fun to sit and watch practice today... Been about 20 years since I was last able. With respect to the late great Randy Turner, the king of Odds and Sods writing.... here's some thoughts: -Al

  • Just to speak to Wolitarsky’s character and just what a good dude he is … few years back, some friends and I went to go see him play at Earl’s on Main and we ended up chatting with him and Streveler …

Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

Dakota just received the biggest fine in MHSAA history for recruiting and their head coach resigned.  He also coaches LB’s with the Bisons but it was a pretty big shock.

He could be back but all we have is that if he comes back to the CFL this year he has to play for us.  He could get cut and sit and wait for the next NFL call until 2026 if he wants.

JV or Varsity coach?

Maybe thats why we missed out on all the WR's available not named Lawler....too much unknown here...players like to know who they playing for and if it a good scenario to get their dollars up

I'd say Kelly's job to lose....Maybe even go global??...but looks to be thats where we gonna put the Ford ratio slot...and it's much easier to have a competent backup there too

Could be. But we’ve never been good at attracted or bringing in WRs from free agency in general. Kenny on his return is the only time we’ve paid one competitively in recent history.

Also, zach has a tendency to throw hospital passes.

Every reference size is small with hogan. He’s got 2 years of being an oc ast in college and an oc qc once.
How exactly has hogan been around and worked his way up?

He may well prove to be a worth while hire. But with out question he is taking a huge career leap forward and is by far the least experienced co in the league. Both at his position and in the league/pros.

It would seem we made the active choice of him over bourgoin, Jackson, Marty, lapo etc.

I’m really interested to see what kind of offence he runs.

Baffling choice...and to me it reeks of a typical Osh awarding/gifting a role to a fav....he wasn't even the best qualified on our staff....and def isnt better than jackson. If you believe and wanna groom him yeah...give him an assistant to the O.C extra title...or offensive quality control type role....big jump that really isnt merit based by any means...who cares that BO raved about him as his coach...It was more for the mental and phsycological aspect of things....he didnt draw up pays and schemes in the dirt that BO went out and executed

And if this was the route all along why the delay?....why no mention of in the running...did others turn us down...so we defaulted?....seems a bit wishy washy to me....and yeah head scratcher too

Buck took him after our search for oc replacement was under way. If we wanted Bourgoin we’d a kept him. But yes if buck wanted hogan over Bourgoin he would’ve got hogan.

we also dragged our feet on it too....and didnt view it as a pressing priority....and guys may have said eff this and were not gonna wait around on it any more...so we had to settle with an internal hire....an O.C worth his salt would want as much time to put things together, as well as be involved in player move issues....waiting until a week before FA isnt the optimal way to go about it

Video of Jay Person,  looks like a super fast edge rusher.

Listed at 233 lbs. and at LB on the Bomber roster, on the small size for a DE.

WJ is only 240 something....and a smalller fast guy with explosiveness off the edge up here...yard off the ball can and will get under Tackles in a blink and cause all kinds of issues and create a lot of spread on the Oline

When Phillip Hunt was up here he played in and around a shade over/under 240....I sure you all remember his play

I mentioned before at some camps I was working at that Person's was a legit NFL pass rush specialist and highly touted....but they wanted him to bulk up...and hedidt want to...he will be perfect for up here...He should have been inserted into the last few reg season h=games here last yr....but Osh was too busy Oshin with his dead weight

Quick wrap up so far:

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Acquired: LB Jonathan Jones (A), REC Dillon Mitchell (A), DL James Vaughters (A)

Agreed to terms: REC Gavin Cobb (N), DB Josh Hagerty (N)

Released or agreed to terms elsewhere: OL Liam Dobson (N), DB Tyrell Ford (N), DL TyJuan Garbutt (A), Celestin Haba (A), REC Kenny Lawler (A), REC Drew Wolitarsky (N)

The Blue Bombers got a headstart on free agency by scooping up three players who had been released elsewhere — Jones, Mitchell, and Vaughters, all of whom could be starters come Week 1. Cobb and Hagerty are nice Canadian depth pieces, though it’s hard to overlook how much talent has left Bomberland. Lawler is arguably the league’s best receiver, while Ford and Dobson are high-level Canadian starters.

Football all over has opened up to smaller faster pass rushers both in hybrids and ends.

Reggie White Jr to the Bombers

Pretty good player. Now you got Schoen, Demski, Mitchell, White Jr, Clercuis, and maybe Wilson at some point and hope that someone from camp impresses and it’s a pretty solid receiving core. There’s going to be lots of opportunity for someone to step up and be that second target for Zach.

From what little I've read online from Als fans, RWJ wasn't the same after his injury and lost his starters spot. TBD if he can return to form.

That sucks. Hopefully he’s back to his former self for camp.

Really like this deal though. Has our prototypical size, but way more athletic than the WRs we usually bring in. Extremely quick, very good top end speed, great jumper. Has the hands too.
The high reward low risk team friendly guy id hoped for. Don’t need to be married to him if we get a great rookie. And he will push the rookies in camp really hard for the last spot.
