You gotta be really sour to have your mind made up on this being a bad hire.

Keep in mind Buck Pierce hadn't called a play for a PeeWee team before he was given the OC job here.

You've got three experienced CFL coaches leading the offense.  Judgement on Hogan's scheme/play calling can come later.

I hope he turns out to be amazing, this is just not the kind of question mark I wanted this year.

Fun to sit and watch practice today... Been about 20 years since I was last able. With respect to the late great Randy Turner, the king of Odds and Sods writing.... here's some thoughts: -Al

  • Just to speak to Wolitarsky’s character and just what a good dude he is … few years back, some friends and I went to go see him play at Earl’s on Main and we ended up chatting with him and Streveler …

Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

Personally don't see how Mike Miller (the American coach who can't keep a job) or Jarious Jackson would be anything but.  I mean Jarious has had mostly terrible offenses as a playcaller.  Gets demoted and pushed back up to playcaller somewhere else, gets demoted again.  His only real good offense was last year with MBT and maaaaybe 2021 Toronto also with MBT, but really inconsistent.

That would be a question mark to me.  It's all question marks.  They have to retool the offense.

We lacked a  big play/deep threat when he wasn't in the line up. 640 yards in 9.5 games. 16.1 yard average. Who will be his replacement?

Mitchell is a deep threat.  Question for him is if he can develop much else.

how so?..Younger was in total control of the defense....if you didnt notice by scheme and philosophy....not evenclose to the same thing...Hall was just here as a courtesy and to finish out his contract and us not having to eat the cost and let him go

What i mean by that is having a first time defensive co-ordinator while keeping an experience defensive co-ordinator as a part of the group for him to potentially lean on.   In this case we have a first time offensive co-ordinator and on his staff is an experience offensive co-ordinator. I'm not sure i understand your point in terms of the scheme and philosophy. Are you suggesting that Hogan won't be coming up with the offensive scheme?

I too just want to announce that I have absolutely extreme negative emotion about this OC hire, and I am basing it off the tiny percentage of his visible work that I am familiar with.

In all seriousness I would have hired Jackson and am happy to have him as QBC. Hogan has been around and worked his way up. Anyone pretending to know exactly how it will work out, positive or negative, is hilarious.

Hogan is a risky hire but by all accounts he's a solid guy with a great work ethic. Now we'll see if he can run an offence. I like that they've brought in Jarious for some experience to lean on.

Maybe Hogan is the coach that will occasionally put 2 RB's on the field at the same time, Logan and Brady with a side of Demski could do some serious damage.

A few cents from me.

I like Lawler but I don't think he is worth the rumored 275k.....

I actually like the potential of our LB crew this year

I am concerned with D-line, I am guessing we have something more to this coming before TC

I feel we got solid value for Schoen, hopefully he is recovered

Losing Ford isn't great...but IMO in no way is he worth what Edm. paid him and we have at least what I believe to be still a very good defensive back end

Edm. went crazy.....call me crazy but I felt like they were coming around late last season, but they have cut and diced, and meal pieced so much over there, I will be shocked if they even look competitive for the first third of the season

T. O is having a Grey Cup yard sale.....they lost alot....

Hogan is a......look it up, who is this guy.....but with JJ mentoring him I hope we see similar results as to what we did with Younger on defence...it's yet to be seen, but I will give it benefit of the doubt

I think we add one upper mid tier o-lineman, o-line must be priced up right now and waiting for a domino to fall

I do share some concern with the receiving core with Schoen's health is question, it's a bit thin...again I think we still sign a upper mid tier guy as the top tiers are all but "signed" somewhere

Overall more change than we have seen, but maybe we needed more change than we have seen....

Because this is a Grey Cup season and I don’t want somebody learning on the fly while his much-more-qualified assistant waits in the wings.

Not the kind of structure I want, this doesn’t feel like the Younger promotion at all.

Yet the Younger hire was pretty much exactly the same thing. Highly regarded young coach with a highly respected older mentor off in the wings.  I was apprehensive last year when we demoted Hall and gave the reigns to Younger. That experience has me with much more of a wait and see attitude this year. I like that they brought in a mentor for Hogan to work along side him.
