I get what you're saying, but you need to look at the context. Was he given the necessary tools to succeed? Do we think he is a good HC, if given the right tools? The right tools meaning a good OC and a backup QB. I think this team is a backup QB, a good OC and a few players (kicker??) away from being a very good team. The D is near elite, the ST's have been great since Wild returned, the main issues are on offense, and some rookie coaching decisions that O'Shea will hopefully figure out with his experience. I'm on the fence with O'Shea but I'm leaning towards keeping him one more year.

Give him an extension like Wally gave Benevides. It only kicks in if he's not fired after the season. There are circumstances where you could justify an extension; Willy injury, last 2 games were stolen.

In Nichols post game presser he said that Bellefeuille finally figured out what Edmonton was doing near the end of the 3rd quarter. So it took Marcel almost the entire game to figure out the opposing defense. Wow.

So your example is a QB that is not even with the team anymore? Willy's accuracy is without question and Nichols is good enough. While you're at it, why not use Ryan Dinwiddie to prove your point. Who knows but a player of this calibre must be an every down type of player. This rotational system is absolute crap. I'm not sure myself how we fit him in but I just know we need to find a way. Rotate him in with Bass/Hurl and play a little more 3-4 D.

A mobile QB also helps make an OL and OC look better.

My thoughts aren't intended to be a knock on Willy, but rather an appreciation for Nichols and what he brings to the table. I've been very impressed with Nichols.

I'd say this is partially true. I am a fan of Willy, he'll be on the next Bomber jersey I buy. But I do think he holds onto the ball too long. I'm also a fan of Nichols, and talent-wise he isn't as good as Willy, but because Nichols is a little more mobile and gets rid of the ball quicker, there isn't much of a drop off in terms of which QB gives us the best chance to win games.

I don't think we're giving Nichols enough credit. There isn't much of a drop off between him and Drew Willy. If much prefer Nichols over Tate.

From today's Free Press: Back to the Bombers and backup Matt Nichols. He would be a nice fit as a long-term stablemate for No. 1 QB Drew Willy. Nichols wants to shop around for a starting gig in the CFL. But if the offer gets juiced up a little, he’d sign now and play second fiddle.

Westerman signed a 3 year deal with the Bombers. He has 2 years remaining after this season. He's paid about $175k per season. Well worth it.
