This is why fans votes should not be done in the first place. Forget the confusion and improper weighting, you are just going to get ballot stuffing and “name recognition” votes. Looks like the league caved to media whining.- US Politics

Can’t speak to the US system, but in Canada the victim impact statement is meant to be a tool to allow the victims to have a voice and express their feelings of suffering and loss and is not intended to inflame the judge or jury. The system is supposed to be dispassionate and not fuelled by vengeance when considering a sentence. The danger is that tugging at the heartstrings or getting an invested party to rip into an accused can improperly influence a jury and lead to an unfair sentence based on the principles at play. Not saying as a human that this is proper, just that the system is set up to focus on the offender, not the victim. Personally, I think an example of where victim impact statements were used in a vengeful way and influenced the judge (by their own admission) was the Humboldt Broncos accident case, where passionate victim impact statements and direct calls for a harsh sentence led the judge to impose an 8 year sentence and force deportation on the truck driver for 16 deaths based on a single act, where the result was punished and not the act itself, as the law dictates was not supposed to happen. As a result, a sanction well above the norm (usually 2 years jail at most for a like offence of running a stop sign resulting in death) was imposed - far more than the Premier himself got for the same action that killed a single elderly lady. Now some will say he got what he deserved and sentences should be that high, but put simply the principles of sentencing and victim impact statements were not followed in that case with significant consequences. Now I won’t get into the debate of what use SHOULD be made of victim impact statements - that’s a moral debate and open to everyone’s opinions. Just saying how the law has operated and why the judge would have set restrictions in this case, lawfully correct but debatably right or wrong depending on one’s moral viewpoint.- Whatever week this is - Non B2B Champs games

IIRC Huf was not brought in to replace Hall specifically. Hall was already injury-prone and with Brock holding out the Bombers needed to make a move as they were clearly in their championship window. The swap for Clements happened but still Cal started Hall the next game because in his words he “owed it to Hall” to start him given how the young QB had shown some promise and gutted it out with his assorted bumps and bruises. Sure enough, Hall gets dinged up and Clements comes off the bench, in the 2nd or 3rd quarter I believe, to a huge standing ovation, and the club never looks back. But Huf was not brought in to replace Hall as the back-up. Clements broke his collarbone in a game in Hamilton in 1983 so Cal quickly made a move to bring in Huf as the starter to salvage the season as the temp starter. Clements was still able to get back in time for the playoffs where he took a nasty shot from Ruben Vaughn (that would be totally late and clear roughing the QB by today’s rules) that re-injured his collarbone and knocked him out of the game and propelled BC to a comeback win and the Grey Cup at home where they lost to the Argos. The next year a healthy Clements with Huf backing him up led the team to its first Grey Cup in 22 years, despite another dirty hit to the ribs in the West Final in BC that may or may not have collapsed a lung.- 2022 CFL Season - Back 2 Back Champs News
Of all the West noms I was surprised only by Bryant because he’s been a bit hobbled and I thought Calgary or BC might get the nod due to voter fatigue. Having said that, it would not shock me to see Revenberg beat him out just for the “new blood” factor, otherwise West should win out. If any other upsets, maybe Mauldin over Lemon (although Ottawa was so bad I suspect voters will lean to the “better player on the better team” concept), and if voters think 10 games is not enough, Gittens had a very strong year at receiver and would be a worthy choice for MOC. But the video game numbers and hype train of the position should give Rourke the win there, even with more limited reps. He was hands down the best player in the league when he was in, and it’s just big enough a sample size to qualify him, IMO.- Game 8:@ Mullet arena

And we have free hockey. Scheifele Connor Morrissey to start and they lose the opening faceoff. We need a song for OT and shootouts. Awaiting suggestions. PLD steals the puck after losing the faceoff and sets up Wheels on a 2 on 0, and the Jets rally to win in front of dozens of stunned Coyote fans.- Game 8:@ Mullet arena
Jets now pressing but bounces in the goal crease not going their way. Perfetti close and Wheeler just misses the open net tap in. The reigning Lady Bung champ needs to adjust his sights. Snake bit so far.- Game 8:@ Mullet arena
Jets wake up enough to tie it up with Scheifele.- 3 stars plus hh joe pop banner day record 15th W
1. Tyrell Ford - tight coverage, great knockdowns, sure tackling, and punishing hits. Set the tone for the whole secondary from play one. 2. Schoen - just gets open and scores. Best rookie season in Winnipeg since Selanne in 1993. 3. The running quartet of Brady (1,000 yards!), Johnny (just a pro who does his role, bides his time, and performs hard when asked), Mike Miller (first career offensive TD) and Dakota Prukop (makes things happen with his legs and put together the drive of the game). Crunch - lots of candidates but given how well the punt coverage was tonight, got to give a shout out to Nick Hallett for a couple of beauty clean submarine tackles stopping runners in their tracks. HH - @O2L for his dedication following the game from a plane, and @wbbfan for some great PBP especially, describing the defensive dominance.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
@wbbfan @BaconNBigBlue I have to leave the game now so if one of you could take the remainder of the play-by-play on offence. Game not in doubt @O2L but I have child chauffeuring duties. Thanks for the PBP assists all.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Hallet just a demon on punt coverage tonight as he takes out the legs of the BC returner again. We are gaining field position on the exchange of punts.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Give him 5 actually, 2nd down and Brown looks to JA in the flat. Peters undercuts it but the low pass prevents the INT. Again we punt.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
After a pipkin skips a couple of passes, Janarion returns one 15 yards as the teams trade punts. 1st down Blue from the 41. Brown hands off to Johnny for 4.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Pipkin Longstockings now in for BC.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Grant draws a No yards on the play and Brown starts at the 37. Of course the fans Try to start the wave when we are on offence. Two quick Incompletions to Bailey, one short and one deep, and we punt away again.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Rhymes looking for the licence plate of that truck. BC now just wants to get out of the game without injury.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
I think it was Hallet.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Now Cottoy down after the BA hit. Those will hurt more in 2 weeks when it is colder.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Tyrell Ford making a play for one of the 3 stars tonight. Bringing the lumber.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
JA squeezes through a hole for 3. Dru Brown now in and throws deep to a crowd of 4 (two in Blue, 2 in Orange). No one takes it and we punt away quickly. Bc will start at their 31.- Week 21 - Coddled Kittens @ Back-to-back, reigning, defending, Grey Cup Champions! GDT
Winston with the nice break-up. Liking the secondary for the most part tonight. - 2022 CFL Season - Back 2 Back Champs News
