2023/2024 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread (BRADY’S BACK! DALTON’S BACK!)
Sure...however at what point they are is also very highly debateable. I will go with the coach's call on that because everyone outside of that dressing room is only talking out their ass. He saw how they were moving in practice. None of us did.

Pretty sure that Hardrick was on the limp, probably a few more. It's playoff time, if you are going to field only a team where a player is at full health you will be sitting most of your starters. As a coach, if a player says he can go and is medically cleared you play him because fully healthy does not really exist that time of year.

It's possible if he is willing to take a haircut.

I mean it could work if they unearth 5-6 quality starters through recruitment to balance the spending. I just don't see it happening tho. As it should. For every 200k guy you better turn up a decent player on an ELC or you are in big trouble as a team.

Buying wins in FA has never ever been a fruitful strategy. You gotta have solid recruitment to go with it or you are doomed. Riders recruitment has not been good. For every big ticket guy you gotta have someone on the roster playing at a high level on an ELC or else your depth with be dog poo.

Yea....I'm thinking he didn't have an agent.

Rider cast offs seem to do better everywhere else in recent years. What does that have to do with anything I said? You are comparing apples and baseball bats. He also dressed an injured Schoen and half his lineup was banged up. Should we move on from all of them? Too late...we re-signed Schoen. A coach puts injured/banged up players in the lineup all the time in the playoffs because you hope they can play through the pain and the drop off is steep behind them. You new to the concept or something?

Also, winning is way more fun than losing. Just ask all the Rider players.

I guess we will see on Jones, but I doubt we circle back to him now unless he comes at a good price. Houston did have some real timely picks for us, and that is worth something as well. His overall game is definitely over rated for sure but I can definitely see the logic of dressing him over Rose against a historically inaccurate passer like Fajardo. Anytime we play Fajardo it is nice to have a ballhawk in the lineup because if anyone is subject to tossing errant balls it's him. Just so happens he was dialled in a bit more than usual, and his receivers really saved his butt on his real bad throws, but I would think that won't be a regular occurrence with him.

If he doesn't get an offer I believe he is under contract.

I don't hate BA being back. He is no longer the league's best S, but he is far from the worst. I don't see a problem at all with bringing him to TC and seeing what he's got left in the tank. MOS has shown that if a player isn't making the cut, even a veteran, and we have other options that he will make the change. Winston Rose found that out last year.

I also think Coxie did well. Not outrageous or anything but it was not a deal either.

Janarion always waits to sign. IF the Bombers want him back I am sure he will sign when he gets around to it. JG is the best returner in the game but I have serious doubts about his durability. I would think the Bombers also will want to ponder that.

I am of the opinion that the East could go to any of Montreal, Toronto, or Hamilton this year depending on a whole bunch of variables. I guess that I am seeing what I believe to be improvement in Hamilton, regression in Toronto, and status quo in Montreal. All of that and a buck won't be worth a bag of chips since it's only February though. My post wasn't meant to indicate that I think Montreal will be the best in the East, just that right now they are the team to beat because they have the trophy and they have earned the right to be called that. To be the man you gotta beat the man. Right now, Montreal is the team to beat. Gives them a QB that isn't a gimmick QB if Maier goes down. Solid move.

Can't say I blame you. I guess it depends how one defines pretty strong interest, but I would think if Brady had a sniff of a chance of being more than TCF he would probably be in the NFL right now.

I really don't have much of a read on the East right now to be honest. Yea...doubtful TO goes 16-2 again, but they should be right up there in the East.

Richmond is a bit of a loss in that he was system ready. However, I am confident that we will find a good RT.

Until proven otherwise, Montreal is the team to beat in your division. Like it or not, they ultimately were the East`s best team last year. Don`t get me wrong, if playoffs were best of 3 it`s Winnipeg vs Toronto last year and we have our 3rd Grey Cup in 4 years...but the fact of the matter on any given Sunday for two straight games, Montreal was able to claim the title as the team to beat in the CFL. It belongs to them. I do agree that FA, is a bit over rated in terms of measuring a teams competitiveness. Good teams lose players, bad teams get some, but at the end of the day the teams that recruit the best over time are usually at or near the top of the league.

The recruitment better be very good because a boat load of talent just left. If you think you are filling those holes with first year recruits you are high. The Argos have to get to work in FA or they are going to be left behind. That being said, I have never seen a team built in FA do very well.

It really doesn't matter in such a small sample size of each roster. Every team will have a handful of highly paid guys, medium paid guys, and ELCs. I would suspect our starting lineup will likely be more expensive than theirs and we will rely on our excellent recruitment to fill out most of our depth with ELCs. Hardrick, if he doesn't re-sign with the Bombers in the exclusive window, will be a big culture get for the Riders. However, there is a very significant chance this contract ages badly for the Riders. Yoshi was worn down by the end of the season last year and began to struggle. Might have been nicked up, might be father time. I do know that the Bombers rarely ever walk away from a veteran player like Yoshi unless it is very clear that salary will definitely outweigh performance.
