Lock Of The Week (Week 3 Results)
Easy Peasy... just find the worst team in the CFL and bet against their defense stopping the other team's running back.

I Understand This Topic Has Been Beaten To Death But....
Hufnagel was SHOPPING Glenn around... he wasn't trying to dump Glenn, he was trying to get maximum value for him. Sure nobody jumped on giving up something valuable to make Glenn their starter, who knows how much Hufnagel wanted for him... maybe Huff's price was too high rather than Glenn value too low. Look where Calgary is at now - Glenn starting with Tate on the sidelines again... Glenn provides Calgary with a LOT of value since it seems obvious that Mitchell isn't quite ready to be their guy yet.

Nobody wants him as a starter? I'm pretty sure Edmonton would take him, Winnipeg would as well most likely if we could get him for free. It wasn't like Glenn was released by Hamilton and Calgary was the only team who came calling to offer him a backup job - he was traded and told he was being brought in to be a reliable backup in case their new starter didn't work out or got hurt. I wouldn't be shocked to see Glenn named the starter in Calgary if Tate has another injury that knocks him out for the season. (I.E. Calgary might give up on Tate and make Glenn their guy until Mitchell is ready to go)

Iunno... he looked game ready to me... just got absolutely rocked probably a little too much for a guy who isn't built terribly solid. Not sure if it was SSK Defense or Ray / Argo Offensive schemes but it seemed like every second or third pass that a receiver caught ended with the receiver taking a HUGE hit.

I really liked the play where they had their fullback (McHenry?) line up on the left side of the formation. That caused the end on that side of the formation to widen, expecting that the full back was going to try and pinch him in for an outside run. On snap the Fullback ran to the right side to stop the pursuit from the end (not that it mattered since the play came so smoothly that end had no chance to catching Sheets) while the Left Tackle and Left Guard opened a hole between each other - Big hole due to the widened position taken by the end. We might be talking about the same play actually. There was also a really nice play where their Left Tackle/Guard both came off the line almost horizontally and opened a huge hole between the Center and Left Guard for Sheets

His write-up said he was all football all the time... practiced as hard as some guys play the game. I imagine trying to get a spot on a professional team would only amp up that tendency

I Understand This Topic Has Been Beaten To Death But....
Not sure about the not a winner... he's basically been a starter since 2005 - 8 years in the league (although I would discount 2008 since he obviously wasn't fully recovered from the broken arm injury, either mentally or physically) In the 8 years he has taken his team to the Grey Cup twice - only lost it once (since 2007 isn't on him) and only really had a complete team surrounding him in three of those 8 years (2005 our Defense was horrific - He played well on offense but couldn't compete with the number of points our defense was giving up - 2006 we were decent but he was also injured with a partial ACL tear, 2007 we had a good team and in Calgary he had a good team - Every other year the team surrounding him wasn't very good) Glenn isn't a guy who is going to carry his team, but also isn't a guy his team needs to carry - I think if we had a QB like that we could be very dangerous since I think the team surrounding Buck is pretty spectacular. I hope Buck proves me wrong but even when healthy it has felt like Buck is being carried by his team over the last couple of years.

I'm not saying he was a worldbeater and yeh, Glenn has a tendency to try and force the pass to the long side of the field where an INT often ends up being a TD. He also tends to be good enough to get you a win if the rest of your team plays well.

Yes because an interception thrown with 18 seconds left in the game when you are down 21-36 really counts. Glenn had one series in that game - albeit that one series was a 2 and out (an incomplete pass to price and got sacked, I can't remember the pass but I think he was forced to throw it away because the pressure was coming and noone got open) After that he came back on with 46 seconds left, went 4-5 with the last throw being an INT that he probably wouldn't have thrown if Calgary wasn't forced to long bomb to have any chance at winning the game.

Other than 2007 I don't think Glenn has ever been a "fantastic QB" However he has been a reliably decent QB that may not just straight up win you a game but will manage the game such that if your defense keeps the score low AND you have play makers on offense you can consistently win games

A terrible QB that both us and Edmonton would give up a lot to be able to have run our offense.

BIG difference between 31 and 28 when you are talking elite level athletics

Tate has looked REALLY GOOD when he plays uninjured... and it isn't even like he plays with the kind of recklessness that was getting Pierce hurt. He just seems to be having a bunch of bad luck - No two injuries have been the same (shoulder and then a broken forearm - who breaks their forearm?) although this latest injury sounds like it could be related to the forearm injury so who knows. If he was available at a reasonable price I would definitely take the shot on him being able to stay healthy...

If Pierce disappoints and our back-ups don't show themselves capable of starting I could see the Bombers moving on Tate. Thing is he will only be available if he ends up missing most of the season due to injury (at which point I could see Calgary deciding to go with Glenn/Mitchell for next year) At which point we'd be looking at acquiring another QB who can't seem to stay healthy but looks good when he is healthy (like Pierce did before we acquired him) I also don't see it happening until after the expansion draft since Ottawa taking on of their QB's is essentially better than what they could have gotten in trade for the QB (since taking the QB means they can protect an additional 2 NI's in their first round - a pretty good return on a guy you wanted to trade)

Defense!
Great game on DEFENSE Yes he pissed away having a good overall game with his special team play - but for consideration in keeping his job on DEFENSE his game was quite excellent (I wouldn't be shocked to not see Jovon returning punts this week)
