2019-20 CFL Offseason
Thanks. Here's the Merriam Webster definition of a Pandemic ... pan·dem·ic | \ pan-ˈde-mik \ Definition of pandemic (Entry 1 of 2) : occurring over a wide geographic area and affecting an exceptionally high proportion of the population //pandemic malaria //The 1918 flu was pandemic and claimed millions of lives. and the Oxford ... pandemic noun /pænˈdemɪk/ /pænˈdemɪk/ a disease that spreads over a whole country or the whole world Now let's see, how big is the spread, let's look at the U.S. COVID-19 U.S. Population: 327,000,000 Total cases: 15,219 Total deaths: 201 So less than .05% of the population. Does that sound like "an exceptionally high proportion of the population", or "millions of lives"? And these are today's stats, not even the stats which were smaller when the WHO first made it's "pandemic" proclamation. You might also be interested to know that "In the U.S. alone, the flu has caused an estimated 36 million illnesses, 370,000 hospitalizations and 22,000 deaths this season", according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but there's no flu pandemic. What's happening in China ... "China has reported no new locally transmitted coronavirus cases for the first time since the pandemic began, marking a major turning point in the global battle to contain Covid-19". That doesn't sound very "pandemic"-like, does it. Does that sound like "an exceptionally high proportion of the population", or "millions of lives"? How about Italy ... Italy Population: 60,000,000 Total cases: 15,000 Total deaths: 1000 Does that sound like "an exceptionally high proportion of the population", or "millions of lives"? This is a hype-job of epic proportions. Give. me. a. break.

2020 CFL Draft
The Taiter makes mention of the fact that we don't have a first round pick or even a top 15'er because we lost our pick in the ZC deal. Well worth it I say to win a cup. I don't regret that one bit.

If we lost the season the only positive would be our reign as CFL champs would be extended uncontested. It would drive our neighbours to the West of us insane(r) and we could needle them about it relentlessly. Who am I kidding? No CFL football for 2020 would suck, big time.

I've never understood punishing athletes for using marijuana. It is NOT a performance enhancing drug from what I've read, quite the opposite, so why test for it at all? It's just a remnant of the insane U.S. drug war. "Research has shown THC to inhibit motor control, balance, reaction time, and coordination. And while THC increases sensory feedback (more vivid colors, increased sense of touch, etc) that feedback is more difficult to properly utilize given the chemical’s inhibiting effects on movement." 2019-20 CFL Offseason
"Today WHO declared the coronavirus COVID-19 a “pandemic” – when there is not the slightest trace of a pandemic. A pandemic might be the condition, when the death to infection rate reaches more than 12%. In Europe, the death rate is about 0.4%, or less. Except for Italy which is a special case, where the peak of the death rate was 6% (see below for further analysis). China, where the death rate peaked only a few weeks ago at about 3%, is back to 0.7% – and rapidly declining ..."

Well said. All I'm saying is that the flu is not to be underestimated for it's ability to kill and this bug looks to be one of the worst. I'm all for washing of hands and quarantines. I don't even want a milder flu-type bug. The thing is, it's news, and it's being hyped up pretty good with predictable results. It's not like we haven't seen this sort of thing before and it never seems to justify the hype.

The data is incomplete and is heavily skewed by China presently. Don't be surprised if it ends up being the same or near that of the flu. 1% of 100,000,000 is 1 million. I doubt it ends up being that high.

Sheesh. Depends what you read or which talking head you listen to, I guess. I heard 2 not 7. "Lots of people talkin', few of them know."

Air travel? No. This thing is being over-hyped by the media. All the statistics I'm seeing shows the flu to be far more deadly. COVID-19: Approximately 4,718 deaths reported worldwide; 38 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 12, 2020.* Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

Maybe we're nuts but I agree.

Bombers bringing back Willie Jefferson
I hope you're right and I believe you are. What I always found odd about Lapo is that as a player he played wide receiver, yet he would have stagnated as such under his current approach to the game. Buck, having been a QB, is bound to have a different philosophy. Like you, I'm looking for him to compliment what's working and to implement schemes that take advantage of what defenses are doing. Also, remembering last season, what super-impressed me about Collaros was his high level of execution. If the play was there he made it almost every time. Matt was good but Collaros was better.

If I had Andrew Harris and this O-Line I wouldn't be afraid to run the ball. Short passes are fine too so I mostly agree with you. Where I may disagree slightly is that I think we'll be far more willing to take shots deep and to try more intermediate passes. I just think it's smarter football (in my layman opinion). When you take shots deep and show a willingness to throw over the heads of the linebackers you force defenses to play you straight up and that makes life easier for everyone. Not enough of that last year and that's one thing I remember about Buck Pierce -- he wasn't afraid to take a shot.

Bombers bringing back Willie Jefferson
I am so excited to see what Buck does with Darvin, Andrew, and rest of this offense this upcoming season. Buck has stated that his philosophy is to use what he has for players and to play to their strengths. I think the strength of this offense starts with our O-line. This is an O-line that can keep a QB clean and can open holes for the best tailback in the league. That tells me that, run or pass, we're going to be successful, as we were last year even with the conservative approach and predictability of Paul Lapolice, which I believe were our biggest weakness on offense. I don't see why Buck would continue the trend of predictability and conservative approach on offense. In fact, I expect Buck to do the opposite, be aggressive and unpredictable. Yes he has Andrew Harris and I still expect him to be a central cog in our offense, but there were too many times last season when everyone in the stadium knew the ball was going to Andrew, especially the opposing defense. This team has way too many weapons on offense to be predictable and one-dimensional. We have QBs that can air it out and receivers that can go get it. I look for guys like Darvin Adams to lead the way with his experience and savvy, but there's more than Darvin. We have ballers like Kenny Lawler that can also go get it. We have burners like Whitehead and Demski that can strike quickly and from anywhere on the field. We have clutch possession-type receivers like Wolitarsky and Petermann. Nobody wanted to play us last year because of our defense. It may very well be our offense that scares the crap out of teams this season. Either way it's going to be fun to watch.

Bombers recruiting Derel Walker
As much as I'd like to see Walker on our team, I don't see our season's success hinging on him signing here. If he wants to be part of what we have here, great. If not, great. We have a great team either way.
