Worn Out Fan
This is one of the head-scratchers for me (bolded above). I'm not up on all of the rules but I think that I read earlier here that we're starting more Canadians than mandated.....10 or 11 when only 7 or 8 (?) are required. I understand the whole patriotic, nationalistic thing but aren't Canuck starters paid on the whole more than equivalent imports. Cheaper and most likely better imports are probably available. And are we even making use of the Designated Nationalized American rule?

Yes, he does which is not a good thing. Do you (or anyone else) know if the league keeps track of net yards for punts? (I couldn't find it.) Perhaps he might be better in that category? I also noted that he is the only punter who has yet to register a single. Could this be because of good placement near the opposition's goal line? I'm not trying to defend him but just looking for a broader picture.

I hope not. IMO, Kramdi isn't fast enough, isn't the greatest of tacklers and may not have the football IQ for that position.

Ah yes, those summer trips/outings that I "forced" on the boys, too.....a lot of initial sulking in the back seat.☺️

Thanks for uploading that video. My wife and I took our two sons, 11 and 8 at the time, to the game and they're still avid Bomber fans (still talk about that game) even though one has lived in Calgary for the past 15 years.

3 stars plus hh game of the year
I wonder how much input Younger has in defensive personnel decisions?

Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Although I think that all three should be replaced, it would be tricky to do all three at once. Do you think that the coaching/management staff see and think what a lot of us as mere fans do? Are there enough players in-house to at least start the process. Are there enough DBs hanging around to "ease" Alexander out? Do the Bombers make use of the "designated nationalized American" rule? Can they ease Bighill's (or Alexander's for that matter) workload by slotting him into this position? Is there replacement for Thomas (too many snaps per game) on the roster or PR? The Bombers started, I think I heard, 11 Canadians yesterday. Wow! Is that the wisest usage of personnel?

I saw Lawler after the game. He was rounding up and shepherding about a half dozen kids near one of the stadium exits. He had no cast on so I'm taking that as a very positive sign.

Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
That was one heck of an exciting game last night. It definitely kept me in my seat to the end. I thought that after an atrocious start Collaros settled down and played well. Buck called an interesting game but it was effective in the end. This Wilson kid looked really good with several tough catches. (In the other game that I was at against BC, he dropped a couple that might have changed the outcome.) I hope he's for real. Oliveira looked really good once they started giving him the ball. Our defence though was another story. Thankfully, Calgary's D was terrible too. I think that most fans (except for one of the ladies sitting right in front of me) can see that Bighill is done. He did not have a good game. He couldn't cover receivers out of the backfield and was ineffective stopping the run. Until there is a change down the middle on D, Thomas (plays too many snaps), Bighill and Alexander (not playing safety like he used to and seems afraid to tackle with any proper technique), the O is going to have to score a heck of a lot of points. A very tall order. Also, Castillo is really good. Special teams are coming around (I think that Miller is going to be a very good coach.) and I'm even sort of coming around to our Aussie punter, sort of.

I kind of like what I've seen of Hubert so far this season but other than he's Canadian, 24, and out of McMaster, I don't know much about him. Did the Bombers draft him? Is he a rookie?

Laura Diakun. Yes, thoroughly professional. In my opinion, she is much better than Kate Beirness, who seems to encourage and participate in that mindless banter.

Some random thoughts: At times Canada v. Venezuela was more exciting. When was the last time Bighill or Alexander used their arms as part of their tackling technique? I’m not sure of the number of plays Thomas got but he looked ok last night. The ability of Steveler to run opened things up for Oliveira. There were some nice blocks by Streveler, too. However, I don’t know how long he can take the added pounding before something breaks. I don’t know anything about QBs’ throwing mechanics but Streveler’s still look odd. The corners and the halfbacks looked a lot better. I like Booch’s idea of moving Holm to safety. He seems to have good closing speed certainly a heck of a lot faster than Alexander and he can tackle. Not that O’Shea will pull Alexander. Are there competent guys in reserve to move to the halfback spot? Not much to say about Kramdi that hasn’t already been said other than too small, too slow and maybe doesn’t have a high football IQ. We use that term in hockey. Don’t know if it’s used in football. Special teams are improving although I’m still not sold on Sheahan. Miller’s systems getting ingrained? Castillo was right about those micro-chipped balls, more like macro-chipped. He has been excellent since those two early “misses” Calgary is no great shakes so far this season so next weeks game is winnable. Go Bombers Go!

3 stars turds and maybe a glimmer of hope
I think the TB understands. He's just being TB. I'm OK with that as he can be blunt but he's often on the mark. Look, this team isn't going to turn it around until they get their O-line figured out and that starts with getting a better centre. Based on what I've seen, Kolankowski doesn't have the size/strength and the mental acuity to handle the spot. Just my opinion.

The Bombers, as they're currently made up, have many problems. Of the problems, I think that one of the major ones is that our Canadian talent, starting Canadians in particular, is sub-par. Three stand out (in a bad way) to me: Kolankowski, Thomas and Kramdi. I'll pick on Kramdi for no particular reason. Kramdi in my view isn't starter material. He tends to lose his man in coverage or closes too fast and loses contain. In spite of all of the problems, three of the four games played so far have been winnable. I'm not jumping off the ledge just yet as I think that there's still plenty of season left to turn things around and squeeze into a playoff spot (crossover?).

3 stars and some turds
I’m curious as to who makes the “on the fly” in game roster management decisions. In this case, is it O’Shea, Younger, by committee or based on a pre-game plan? Thoughts from you folks?
