Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
It’s not hard to follow clear trends. We were the same gong show, and hamilton/mtl haven’t been gong shows on the field in the last while. I should’ve been more clear I was talking about who beat us not the amount. It’s not extreme, look at the 30 front to take him off more.that was the lowest snaps he’s taken in a meaningful game since idk when. An extreme opinion wouldn’t even be that ba, rose, biggie, wj, jj and our starters on ol will never be better than they are today. Because out side of gray, they combine to be about as old as speedflexs’ first bomber game. Lol it wouldn’t even be a big risk to say we haven’t drafted well since 19. Since the 19 draft have we picked a single guy who’s a starter today? A couple guys have started briefly in relief but that total could probably be counted on your fingers an extreme opinion or hot take would be some thing like Zach is shot, bolo/dobson/Eli are trash, lawler is better than schoen etc. not saying those are my opinions but that’s the range. My hot take? Mos won’t play better young guys because of his loyalty and is making us worse for it. Buck can’t adjust and has failed to build a system that progresses and has wrinkles. Hall is too soft to get his guys to tackle or play aggressive even out side of the cushion. We have our heads soo far up our own butts as an organization that we think our culture will keep us contending no matter what and staying on the moral high ground is as important as winning a gc. And that maybe, just maybe, walters is one foot out the door ready to go back to a gig in Ontario.

Elks @ Bombers: Week Of Thread
This is gonna be an interesting game. Far more so than one would’ve thought even at the mid way point. Heard some 7th hand rumblings about schoen too. I never trust that stuff. And I sure hope it isn’t true. We gotta keep Parker in.

Don’t forget bc went from missing the play offs to contender in one year. In the first half edm was a free spot on the bingo card in the second they’ve been play off quality. Hamilton has a similar turn around. Ott has a lot of good pieces too. The whole league is catching up. Another off season and camp like this last one and we will have no advantage on the roster. Look at our losses this year and last. As much as it is to contenders, it’s to former bottomed feeders rising up.

If we improve next year. If we don’t have hard decisions we will regress in a big way next year. I don’t know if we have what it takes to make those hard calls and move on from guys post grey cup. Remember randles exit? Or mo coming back from injury got very little chance. We used to make those hard moves any time they came up and it propelled the team to greatness. When’s the last time we made one of those moves now? Is it still randle and mo? We lose guys in fa but we’ve been hemorrhaging talent to cfl fa every year since 19. Jake Thomas sure can’t. And we have a bunch of guys paid like stars who can only fill a niche role now. Our o and d were built on versatility we don’t have any of that now. We have to create specific opportunities for a bunch of guys to succeed instead of being able to play what’s best to beat an opposition.

We also need to burn down the old boys club and actually play young guys instead of running out guys who can’t play any more though.

This is fine. Lmao don’t over dose on copium you’re at dangerous levels. neither of our tackles can defend speed rushes. Neuf isn’t gonna retire. He will continue to run out onto the field til he’s forced off it.

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
It isn’t. Like most people you just drastically under estimate the chance of things getting worse. Teams like Toronto and bc will be improving next year. Some of their best players are young, and they have done a much better job developing identifying and using talent. Zach has taken 116 sacks in his cfl career. 51 of those are between last year and this year. 27 and counting this year. The only play off team who’s qb has been sacked more than Zach is Vernon adams. Our ol isn’t way above average in pass pro. Thinking it is despite all the evidence to the contrary just shows the bias. our ol, dl, secondary and Canadian depth are average despite our lines being among the most expensive in the league. How do you think we keep guys like schoen little on get good cfl vets to fill gaps like that?

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Hardrick and Bryant haven’t been healthy late in the season since 19. One at worst has to move into guard and we need a younger tackle. Gray and kola haven’t worked out and nuef is past it. Thomas is soo far past it it’s not even funny. Jeffcoat can’t play half a season and is in the top handful of des. Biggie is only situationally effective. He can’t pass rush can’t get off blocks and can’t scrape to the ball. Rose and ba haven’t been the same in a long time either. Willy needs a guy off the other edge and inside who can get consistent pressure. He isn’t a guy who does that him self. He has more time in him and jj has use but not as a top 3 in reps on the dl. in general our ni depth is the worst it’s been since before 19. We have few guys who can contribute any thing to o or d and the teams specialists we’ve been drafting for years have amounted to very little. We have no guy who is the next miller. How many nis do we have at the skill positions that could start in this league?

Our highest dollar players are some of the oldest in the league and only Zach is in contention for recognition as top at his position. I don’t think it’s over stated that our ol and dl are very expensive and average this year out side of run blocking. Biggie our most expensive dbs these guys are not in the top couple at their position any more. we run it back this time next year we are a 5-7 win team if Zach Brady and schoen return plus stay healthy.

Regression to that level of toxic culture? You’re right not with this group. To that level of play and missing the play offs? Entirely possible. Some of our old guys are barely keeping it together now. If we stand pat again this coming off season I would expect a big step back to a fringe play off record this time of year. With the amount of hits Zach has taken this year and last the ole crieder fan classic one hit away, will be extremely true of us next year.

Probably to allow him to recover on his own at home. Some guys prefer that.

What happened two and three years ago has no impact on today. Last year even has a minimal impact now. It’s not the same team and it’s not the same league.

Same I love his energy in the booth. It’d be well worth him going through a media course and refining his colour skills. I actually love Paul in the booth even more too. If we had either blm Matt or Paul in the booth doing colour for every game that’d be fantastic. With Paul being on the panel when not in the booth. Scianatti as host would be soo much better.

I remember Toronto being considered a serious threat.

He is great on the panel and even better in the booth. If that’s what his career becomes then it’s great for us all.

Top shelf. That said while I hate plop the oc and guy who can’t keep his hands off the play calling duty, he is a great guy, leader, and football mind. I can’t believe there isn’t some role where he could be a great asset to a team and not get in his own way. But I have no idea what that is.

Yep, especially vs cfl dbs who are a bit shorter than nfl dbs. Too bad K9 instantly had hands like Chris walby when he came here. And had guys throwing him the ball that made Dru brown look like Zach collaros. Great dude, wonder what he’s up to now. He’d be a good one to be involved with cfl media/coverage. 3dn Writing, radio, even tv would be great. 3dn should really go after some guys like that and Doug brown to write regular articles. The quality would explode instantly.

This is exactly what I’m worried about. That said the last few similar concerns going into the off season have been handled other than losing Ringmaiden which was an inevitability so just hoping this is more of the same.

ALs cut a couple guys. I’d give Damontre Moore a look at the pr. Very talented de with lots of experience. Great guy to have handy in case some one gets banged up. I’d also give Patrick Davis a pr look. Big athletic ni ol from Syracuse who’s still pretty young and has lots of life in him. Be a good body to have in camp next year too.

Yeah. Idk what happened with him. But he really seems to struggle with consistency going back to Hamilton.

Yeah missing a nose hurt the defense in a lot of ways especially on first down. I loved the 3-3 look. I’d be happy if we did that instead of rostering extra dl and just rotated Hansen and Lawson a lot more. Much less Thomas, and much more 3 de set. That letting us get the young lbers in more is great. Even getting the ni backers in for Thomas is a win. A rotating dl of the Jeff’s walker, Hansen, Lawson and a bit of Thomas out of a 30 front would be about the best to hope for at this point. That with a mix of biggie kyrie Cole Clements and Briggs would allow us to keep guys healthy and even blitz effectively. Clements has shown a real good knack for getting pressure off the edge. Imagine if we started showing biggie and dropping him frequently instead of sending him into a guard, then sending one of the twitchy fast imp lbers off the edge? That’s enough of give any cfl qb nightmares. Holm makes great plays and questionable plays, but you never question his motor. Which is not some thing you find in a cover db very often.

Guys aren’t identified and kept for pure talent reasons. From the marine to Schmekel to machino and soo many others. I think you too quickly forget how much we’ve sucked at lber in the mafia era. Two years of biggie, one year of jsk and maybe a seasons worth of games from kyrie over 2 ish years. Yet we’ve barley kept imp lbers around. Pretty much all of last year we didn’t have one on the pr despite kyrie being hurt most of last year. Look at how many ex bombers are in the league, even just at ol. Then look at how much we’ve struggled in pass pro this year. It’s not that the talent isn’t good enough. It’s almost never a pure talent problem in football. Edm ham ott ssk all have sufficient talent. Poor use of talent is the problem. Guys don’t adapt to the cfl instantly, and guys also don’t get that adaptation done by sitting on a pr getting a handful of reps a week in mostly un padded soft ass practices. You need to give guys a few regular season starts before they have had a real shot. We haven’t done that. Especially at dl, ol, and lber. The point is we haven’t identified and developed guys at those positions. This year we’ve struggled at db where we used to do it very well too. We have positions of need now. And we’ve cut more talent at those positions than any thing. Few have gotten a chance. Bennett has gotten far more of a chance than the blue chip guys we’ve brought in this year.

It’s really strange to see how un physical our dbs are this year. Previously even playing soft cushion they made guys pay the price to catch the ball and gang tackled. Now days teams are running screens walking past the first defender and picking up easy first downs. I feel like ba has had 2 or 3 big hits all year and one was on a rb who really won the exchange.

That’s a great point. He would’ve been a great fit for them. I agree on Agudosi. He can be really frustrating at wr. At the same time , lawler has suffered for touches a bunch this year. With how much Demski schoen and Brady touch the ball plus woli having a career year and sheed in the mix its hard. The thing that frustrates me the most with Agudosi is not making use of him on teams. As a package guy on offence and a teams demon he could’ve brought a lot.

That’s not one of them I’ll have to watch it later and dig the videos up Wilson only got a shot after a long while not really a good example. Sayles and stove got chances because of roster issues / injuries. It’s easy to assess talent and give chances to guys in a position of need. Not soo much when it’s a position where a young guy out performs a vet, or a vet is slowing down and performing at a lower level.
