We've lost one game. We are jumping the gun on anyone getting fired. We got torched defensively and that had zero to do with roster construction. JY and Richie need to do a better job.

Is 20-0 with an average score of 60 to -5 too much to ask?

Remember last year when they kept trotting out Corcorran and most of us were screaming for the team to field Cobb? I really hope Clercius gets a chance to take a big step forward this year. His ceiling is just so much higher.

The sad thing will be rules coming in next year taking a bunch of points off the board.

I don't think it gives hope to Canadian teams at all, especially in the case of the Jets. Carolina has advantages that Canadian teams don't have, despite being a small market US team. Yeah, Carolina isn't your first choice if you're an American but they're a well-run franchise with an incredible owner. That goes a long way. A lot of players don't want to play in Canada - full stop, period. Even more players don't want to play in Winnipeg and quite honestly, I think it's time that the franchise took a step back and recognized that it's become an issue of not wanting to play for Chipman + Chevy just as much as it is not wanting to play in the city. Our ownership and front office is awful and I don't want to hear the excuses of "well, it's the toughest job in the NHL." Great, invest in things that will make it easier. We are a draft and develop team who sucks at drafting and sucks even worse at developing. The Jets have done an absolutely pitiful job of recognizing what players on the way up value, which leaves no doubt as to why we easily lead the league in "players asking for a trade" over the past 10 years. Is no one on the Jets waking up to WHY that is happening? I understand the challenges our franchise faces with attracting players but we make it SO much worse on ourselves. We beat the creativity out of almost every young prospect, we make them earn their way through the ranks of a system that forces them to get in line with playing OUR style of hockey while forcing their style out of them, we make them toil in the AHL ranks far too long and then give them inconsistent opportunities with the NHL club alongside low skill players that don't compliment them whatsoever. It's not the "small big city" mentality where we think we hear all the secrets that other teams don't because everyone knows everyone in Winnipeg. It's the fact that a lot of our young players are incredibly disgruntled and honestly, I think having our AHL team in Winnipeg as well is a huge detriment - imagine being a 20 year old first round draft pick, you are weighing your options on how you'd like your career path to play out and you are stuck in Winnipeg EVERY day, getting third line grinder minutes on the Moose thinking to yourself "is this how I want to spend the next 10+ years of my career?" The Jets need to take a long hard look at the way that they do business and stop trying to convince themselves that the loyalty of Morrissey, Scheifele, Lowry, etc can be instilled in every single player. Young players want to PLAY these days, they want opportunities to control their career and we don't have to like it but we have to respect it. Winnipeg itself is a big hurdle to these players but the front office and the way we treat our young players is the biggest hurdle of all at this point.

Defenses all across the league have struggled this season. Fans should be happy with all then passing yards put up & the points scored.

We've won 10+ games 9 straight years, longest streak in club history. Sure its been frustrating the last year or so but this is not the Reinbold or Daley eras.

Let's just gain some perspective here in that we're talking about a 12-14 win team becoming a 8-10 win team. Between 95 and 2015 we won 10 games twice, 11 games once, 12 games once and 14 games once.

Yup my guess is 90+% of teams would consider Helle an upgrade to what they currently have.

Coaches and GMs who still have term on their contracts get fired all the time. I also hope that we are not going to have a Chris Jones/Elks situation on our hands, but it could well come to that. O'Shea is more disposable than Walters, IMO, and more of a concern.

It's really not that hot of a take guys... All US markets have an advantage. Financially, and anonymity for players. They will always attract the best players. Gary Lawless wrote a really great piece about it some years ago... Canadian teams (and Winnipeg most especially) will always have the deck stacked against them because the best players, by and large, do not want to be here.... Or at least would PREFER to play anywhere else. If I remember right, Lawless said something along the lines of "...the Jets may get lucky and win one once in our collective lifetimes, but it will always be a near impossibility..." Whereas places like California and Florida (not to mention places like Carolina) where nobody cares about hockey, will always attract the best players. The weather, the taxes, and the complete anonymity will always be most attractive to players. It's just logical... We don't have to like it, but it makes all the sense in the world.

Couldn't be happier for Ehlers. He was always a great soldier. I truly believe Winnipeg will never win a cup.. and Canadian teams are highly unlikely ever again (odds are just stacked too high against them)..... So any players that come here for awhile and try hard... I've got nothing but happiness for them when they go and win a cup somewhere else that they actually have a chance.

I'm not talking bout now...season is early....I talking season end and if we fall on our face...have less wins than last yr....miss playoffs....and have some same issues/concerns that killed us last yr....That be 5 yrs of successive decline, and with adding the best available oline and dline guys, a top Canadian receiver and a top Import playmaker, while dumping some dead wood....no reason for it...it's time Once Clercius is healthy...Eli...Dixon...Woodbey....and then how we retool the current lineup thats when more scrutiny can be involved...too early....yet But if we do worse than last yr I hope we eat that salary and cut ties...

Cobb was with the #1 group all through training camp while Clercius was with the 2s. We never got to see if they were going to make the switch during the regular season.

They will get the D figured out i have no doubts about that. Between Oshea, Younger and Hall there's too many bright minds and pride to let it stay that bad.

I look at it as...We went from a struggling group first couple seasons...Got loaded with talent in prime...won 2 cups....Bet the farm on the same roster....lost a Cup...More of retaining and then starting some bad decisions...went to 2 more cups but lost basically from our own doing....Didn't learn from the past...didn't use foresight and assess our roster and it's weaknesses and basically stood status quo.... decreasing wins each season since 2022 and barely squeaked into playoffs, and got punted out in first round Seemed to shift gears this off-season tho..and actually brought in guys to replace some the 3 yr running dead weight, and also finally hired some guys from outside the organization....Condell...Hull....Addison so this is all good But we kinda seeing some of the same coming back into play, and of this season ends either with less wins...having to cross over to make playoffs or being a sub .500 team and not even getting to them...Then thats 5 yrs into a downward trend...spiral and we need to nip it in the bud and the place to do it is HC....That is a sustained trend in wrong direction anyway u slice it, and if it's kinda a result of a lot of the same crap...why stay the course??

as it generally goes in football...tried true and finite...a HC will usually can a coordinator when things go down the pooper to try and save his own hiney...and when that doesn't work...The G.M has to take do his job and can the HC he signed...That's his mulligan and his chance to right a ship....and if/when that turns into more the same lack of success, or even becomes worse and you still have a listing/sinking ship....He is next to go and house is cleaned....Especially when it starts to effect the bottom line. Pretty rare...almost never happens that a G.M is axed for a team failing to live up to expectations...or see success and a HC is retained for the new GM...Good luck finding any G.M worth spit willing to walk into that situation. And to be frank would never wanna be a part of any organization where it's done in reverse....as its a sure sign the dynamics of the hierarchy are way outta whack and just a place that's not gonna succeed until all all purged...We didn't hit that Ottawa Renegades/Gleiberman era of nonsense but jury still out so far on this season and what we are in for...there been some real good signs in some aspects...but some of the issues that really handcuffed and handicapped us are slowly seeping back into the forefront whether some here don't wanna believe it...or don't see it I still think we made the right move in giving Walter's a new deal and he stepped up, but do think the Osh time was up and we needed to move on...no coach stays in one place forever and 14 yrs in football is an eternity and ultra rare. I still giving benefit of doubt...the season is hardly started and there are a lot of positives so far...but if we fall on our face again...miss play-offs and some of it can be directly related to a lot of the same ol same ol....and a a refusal all yr to utilize league wide rules that only we re-buff...time to snip snippity snip

By that logic the ultimate responsibility for the roster construction is KWs. If he has a coach exhibiting flaws he is responsible for correcting it.

Basically...exactly..just way it is...as at end of day its his ass on the line and he has to answer to, and be responsible for end result...

We've had this discussion before. with you or others, I can't remember. A coaching staff is not a democracy. It's collaborative to a point. However, the Head Coach has final say in everything from play calling & schemes to personnel on the field. If Osh says no on any subjecy then the discussion is over. Yes, the D is on Younger responsibility but he still answers to Osh. If the HC wants to make changes like changing coordinators, simplifying the schemes or cutiing players then he will do it as he has that authority. Whether anyone disagrees or not.

If they're willing to kick tires on Babcock, I don't see any reason they wouldn't be interested in Tortorella.
