4 pointsWalters said they knew that was the case before the season even started. Brown was clear with them after 2022 that he felt he had grown as much as he could here and needed to be on the field more. He knew he was not going to get that chance here so he was leaving. It was not a matter of money or the club not wanting him, they just couldn't give him the one thing he wanted the most - playing time. The only way things may have played out differently is if Zach had gotten hurt last season. A serious injury could have forced the team to move on from Zach before they were ready but it didn't play out like that so here we are. Getting Strevy back just means things worked out for the best for everyone. Dru gets his playing time & we get to roll with Zach/Strevy while we develop a rookie as our 3rd string QB.4 points -

This one is interesting as it was reported he signed with the UFL 4 days ago. https://pfnewsroom.com/news/dc-defenders-continue-to-sign-wrs-add-isaiah-coulter/ They also signed DB James Campbell. He tried out for Seattle last year.2 points -

Strevelers injury, a broken ankle, isn’t a wear and tear thing. It was a freak accident made worse by riders targeting it. Both streveler and buck need to evolve to the modern qb run packages. The cfl on the whole is lacking in this area. But I see no reason why he can’t put up a ton of rush yards while staying healthy and productive. Doesn’t hurt being bigger and stronger than half the guys on the field for defense.1 point

1 pointI like the current format where the best tour teams get in regardless whether they win the province. That was always a beef back before the change. We had 3 very good teams and only 1 got in. My only current beef is that during an Olympic year the Brier/Scotties are not as good with the Oly teams usually not taking part. Just move the damn things up to Dec or put them on later and give the Oly team a guaranteed entry. As for the arena thing, its good they move it around to smaller venues.1 point -

1 pointLooking back at great qb. tandems in the CFL...I would have to rate the Russ Jackson and Ronnie Lancaster as one of the best twosome's....They were a force back then... Eventually though Ottawa traded Lancaster to Sask. and it worked out well for them... Russ continued to play 'lights out' for the Rough Riders ...I think our duo of Streve and Zack are very comparable and they'll be a helluva problem for opposition defences ...Scheming for us will be a huge problem for the rest of the league...Looking forward to it.......heh heh1 point -

1 pointI got a part time job with the Flames in 1996-97 as an Usher. Not because I wanted to watch hockey or see big bands come through town which they did like Kiss, Metallica, The Tragically Hip, The Smashing Pumpkins, Hootie & the Blowfish & Def Leppard. Yeah, all those things were great but I really became an Usher for one reason so I could watch the Brier that March. I was there for nearly every evening draw after my day job, plus playoffs & Final. Got to see Eddie "The Wrench" Werenich, Vic Peters from Manitoba, a young & very talented foursome from New Brunswick, the James Grattan team & Kevin Martin. The event drew nearly 235,000 fans for the week. For awhile, it was a Brier record until Edmonton hosted it & set new attendance records. It seemed the attendance records were being set every year. My highlight of the week was walking down to the playing surface after the final draw on the Weds night & hanging out there for 15 minutes alone taking it all in. What a perspective looking up & seeing nearly 20,000 seats from all sides. That was awesome. For a curling fan like me, it was like going on a religious pilgrimage. I was in awe. Today if the Brier was held again at the Saddledome, I wouldn't become an usher. If somehow I was, I wouldn't walk down to ice level & I'd only work a couple of shifts that week. The lustre of the Brier for me, is gone because Manitoba never wins anymore & the format sucks.1 point -
Dru Brown
Absolutely. The big thing is that DCs will be scrambling to game plan for both guys and that's hard to do because what they bring to the table is very different. It will be very difficult ask for any DC to formulate, and then implement a shut down defensive game plan for Collaros and Strev in the course of a few days. This will allow us to exploit defences a little more. I expect Zac, a very cerebral QB, to be able to operate at a very high efficiency level against the league this year.1 point

1 pointI agree. If curling was as popular as it was, especially the Men's we'd see the Brier at these huge venues but we don't. But what do we see? The same teams every year & the same plot plays out, People are tired of the same teams in there every year with the same teams winning. Curling has lost a lot of ground in this country the past 20 years. They need to give the people what they want. A round robin of ten end games where everyone plays everybody else once. Where the winning team has to play a marathon of games to win the event. No Team Canada. You got win it every year. No residency rules. All curlers play for the province they live in year round. The Brier needs to be the biggest event of the season again. No extra or Wild card teams allowed. Just the provincial champs from each province.1 point -

JCon reacted to SpeedFlex27 for a post in a topic
1 pointWith all of the rule changes especially for residency qualifying & the addition of extra teams, two pools now, less games played per team. I believe a lot of fans have given up on the game. The format is very confusing & the Brier seems to have lost its lustre. It's all about qualifying for the OLympic Trials now. Not winning your country's curling championship for the curlers. The best curlers are in Alberta now. The best team is from Newfoundland playing under the banner of Canada. Remember when the Brier was played in big venues like Saskatchewan Place, The Saddledome, Canada Life Centre or Rogers Colliseum? Every year when it was played out West on the Prairies, they'd always talk about setting new attendance records. Now, the venues are 7 or 8,000 seats. Lots of unsold seats during the draws during the week. Next year the Brier is in Moose Jaw. No attendance records will be set.1 point -

No player can win the MOP every year, so I agree with your post that it was inevitable he would eventually lose one. However, ZC is still the best QB in the league....not by as large of a margin anymore...but the numbers and results don't lie.1 point

We went out last night as our 37th wedding anniversary is coming up in two weeks or so & we'll be out of town when it is. We went to a restaurant called The Cattle Baron in SE Calgary. It can be, or it can not be. Hefney for instance wasn’t a S, but put up a lot of tackles while being one of the very best dbs in the league. You can’t evaluate tackles in a vacuum. I broke down in depth the difference between awes tackles and biggies tackles last year. Awe put up more tackles head to head, but was making tackles on average almost 10 yards from the line. Where as biggies average depth was under 4. Or like maruo leading us in teams tackles then getting benched for the year. Tackles are the worst individual stat in football and maybe all of sports. 6’3 180 guy productive in his one year at wku. Also scored a td on a hand full of punt returns. It’s not easy to walk into a new team as a wr and be that productive.1 point

1 pointWhat's the point in getting personal about it? You can't prove my observations are invalid. This is a fan forum and I have an opinion about who gets the ball off quicker, Collaros or Brown. It is a valid opinion based on what my eyes are telling me. And you are welcome to disagree. If you did disagree I would respect your opinion rather than resort to an ad hominem argument. I guess we could run a stopwatch off game tape and test my observation. No, I have not played QB or coached at the pro level. I would describe myself as just a fan. Although I have lined up as a player in the CFL. In the backfield. And I know how to run a route. And that's all I'm gonna say. Since you asked.1 point -

1 pointConjecture. For sure both Collaros and Brown have benefitted from Winnipeg's development of a solid Oline and a scheme that offered pretty dang good QB protection. But how Brown might fare elsewhere is irrelevant to the opinion that we should have kept him here. The size difference between the 2 QBs is also irrelevant. After all, Doug Flutie was 5'!0 180lbs - bigger does not equate to more success or durability. For sure Zach is a warrior who, as you say, has had to sit out for extended periods due to serious injuries. The fact that he has suffered so many injuries - especially hits to the head - underscores my basic concern about him. After all, Collaros missed games in 2015 and 2016 with the torn ACL - not clear he ever recovered from that 100%. In 2018 he was sidelined for several games due to a head injury and he did not play for most of 2019 due to head injury. We have a valiant QB who is 35 and needs to avoid hits at all costs as they could be career ending. To me, it appears that is taking him longer to process things out there post-snap. Brown definitely got the ball away quicker than Zach and was more accurate and threw with velocity. That's how it appeared. Plus Brown knew Buck's offence. That's why I'd have kept him. But we didn't. Glad we've got Strevy though.1 point -
