Looooooooooong time lurker, first time poster. Had to break the silence after this trade. I think the CBJ may have got the better player(s) but the Jets team got stronger. Also, after listening to PLD's interview, I'd guess he is re-signing a contract way before his last year is up. He had good things to say about the organization from top to bottom and the quality of players we have here. He also mentioned how much he didn't like to play agains the Jets because of how big and fast they are and their work ethic. He said his dad had nothing but good things to say about the Jets. I have read an article about the Jets letting his dad have LOAs to watch him play at, for example, the World Juniors. I think he re-signs here. I forgot to mention, he was a beast in the playoffs against TO last season. Laine was excellent in the post-seasons too but it is nice to know PLD ups his game when it counts. Scheif, PLD and Lowry are three centers that will be hard to play against in the playoffs and this move gives us a better chance of being there this spring. Maurice will probably run... I also liked how Chevy, Mo, Wheeler all subtly said Laine was given every opportunity and pretty much gave him the best case scenario to succeed. Which is true. Reading between the lines they all pretty much said "he was treated well and there was nothing we could do". I'm glad they didn't just give out cliche answers that we all know aren't really true

Stafford is a very good QB who has played for a terrible franchise. No playoff wins since the 1991 season and like one win since 1957. He'd look good in SF or Indy.

I'll defend Stafford just like Watson..... the man has produced on some absolutely awful teams and some of the absolute worst coaches and gms ever seen in the league. I'm just not sure about his health at this point so I can't see the Lions getting a huge return for him. As a 49ers fan... I'll take Stafford no questions asked.

I wouldn't get to excited about the early start considering we played against a rebuilding Ottawa team (a.k.a not a good team).

And yes I know that because my friends and I worked at the games and went to those places after. The first three places were good for the visiting teams since they stayed at the Westin (now the Fairmont).

That Chevy interview was the most forward and blunt he's ever been. Came right out and said that they didn't like laines progression and didn't think him and Scheif played well together... He's right.. they were brutal. Doesn't fit the salary structure.

Back in my 20's & 30's the nightlife in Wpg was pretty damned good. A lot of upscale bars downtown & down to Earth pubs in the suburbs. Usually the women situation was pretty good wherever I went. The Bombers, Jets & out of town football & hockey teams "owned" the Marble Club & partied there so lots of ladies. Can I even say that now without offending?

Interesting article in The Athletic today grading the trade. Won't post it all, because it is behind a paywall. But one thing that was mentioning is that Dubois was in their their recent top 100 players and Laine was not. Here is how they grade this trade for both teams: Custance: Columbus: A- Jets: B+ Luszcyzyn - Columbus: B Jets: A- Pronman - Columbus: B+ Jets: B- They love Laine's goal scoring, which is a rare commodity. But his defensive play can be a liability. If we get Dubois from the playoffs last year, will have the centre depth with Scheifele and Dubois that teams dream about. I think a lot of people are focusing on people not wanting to sign in Winnipeg because of the city. My opinion (might be way off) it seems like the players don't want to sign because of Maurice.

Way better athelete as well and it *appears* that he is coachable unlike some of the other recent flash in the pans like Jennings. I'll give Fajardo the benefit of the doubt and will reserve final judgement until after this season on how good he can be. I think a lot of Fajardo was his awkwardness in how he extended plays and I wasn't that thrilled when he was contained in the pocket. With Adams their was a noticeable improvement last year of his pocket presence and he still has the atheletic ability to throw a good ball and to elude defenders chasing him. Nichols... well he better hope he gets a lot of protection if he plays this season, the guy can't move anymore.
