Well it was preseason, it was ugly, but god damn a Bomber win is always a good thing

Bombers win, Riders getting the **** kicked out of em, hell of a friday night right there.

Hard game to pick three since it was really ugly but I'd say 1 - Fenner/Este/Sayles 2 - Bennett showed that he isn't useless and would be able to produce. 3 - The Canadians who won't make the team but played hard. HH - Mexican kicker who seemed to really be having fun.

1 the returners. Especially Nelson. He not only was productive he made the smart plays and didn't risk it by running side ways. Whitehead looked dangerous very stokes esq but Will risk losing yards to make yards. 2 Mcguire. Played surprisingly well on a night the whole offense seemed rusty and out of sync. Bennett made some nice plays but had wrs struggling while he was in. 3 mccallister/Richardson some great pressure, out side discipline and a great sack each. HH Schrot with the TD catch late then getting carried off the field by hardrick. Honorable mention to Olivera on his great run on his first play from scrimmage.

On a similar note, I love Whitehead’s speed but it’s very clear that he’s not a natural receiver. He doesn’t run great routes and seems to be a straight line speed guy almost exclusively. Nelson is a great returner in his own right with much more refined receiver skill. I’d much rather Nelson make the final roster than Whitehead, despite the hype. Wish we would have seen more from Bailey last night as it felt like they were going to force the ball to Lawler as much as possible. It makes me feel like the decision to have him as the fifth receiver is essentially already made.

FYI O'Shea was basically gushing about Nelson in the post game on CJOB.

I wasn’t happy with Streveler last night but a lot of bad circumstances came together to make his passing performance look worse than it was. On the first passing play of the game, Whitehead completely broke off his route for no reason and he would have had a real chance at it otherwise. It also seemed like even with the vanilla pre-season playcalling, Bennett and McGuire were given high percentage slants and curls that weren’t called or there when Streveler was in.

My thoughts on the game. 1. 1st play of the game, Streveler to Whitehead. Streveler actually threw a great ball, Whitehead straight up stopped mid route for some reason. Streveler didnt show much otherwise. 2. Whitehead despite the mental error on play 1 still showed fairly well I thought. Speed for days, maybe the fastest player we've had in for a few years. 3. Dline will be good!!! 4.love the way Lawler attacks the ball, just needs to come down with it!! 5.love seeing the local kid score like that, what a great night for him. Nice to be back, but man preseason games can be boring. Pretty basic O and D today on both sides, wouldn't look into the success or lack there of from the OL.

Dinwiddie was slow and had a noodle arm... not even close. Just a few bombs that he rushed because he was being pressured.

If Hardrick can carry Schrot on his shoulders he must be very close to coming back.

Just a thought, I hope we can pick up (just like how Esks did it when they pickup Richards) Shai Ross when/if he was cut by the Esks.

Whitehead hasn't been here long enough to learn that trying to beat coverage to the corner with speed alone will work once, not every time. Nelson was here last year, he's got the advantage of knowing that already. If Whitehead sticks around long enough, he'll hopefully learn to find seams and then use his speed rather than thinking speed creates seams.

The net punting is identical. Looks like Ryan was placing it for coverage.

There is that, but I get the distinct impression that Doug Brown doesn't really pay that much attention to preseason goings on either.
