WINNIPEG, MB., September 9, 2015 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the club has acquired Edmonton’s best second round selection in 2016, and International offensive lineman Selvish Capers in exchange for National offensive lineman Chris Greaves.

Edmonton holds two selections in the second round of the 2016 CFL Draft – their own and Saskatchewan’s – and the club has acquired the higher of those two picks.

 

Capers (6-5, 308, West Virginia, November 15, 1986, in New Orleans, LA) has spent the past two seasons with Edmonton. He started nine games in 2014,, playing seven at tackle and two at guard.

“With the depth we feel we have accumulated at this spot, we felt strongly about acquiring a pick in the second round of next year’s draft, as well as a lineman with some experience in this league,”  said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “Chris has been a very valuable member of our organization for six seasons now, both on and off the field, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sincerely thank him for everything he has done for this team, and our community.”

Wow...The Riders second rounder will likely be the 10th overall pick...almost like a first round pick. 

This was a long time coming....interesting to see what Capers can do.

Pretty much is with us not having one

im very much ok with this. greaves is pretty much losing his welcome here. why not get a return value for hin instead of just cutting him.

That is one hell of a deal.

No complaints here. Seems like a solid flip of a no longer useful player to me.

I like this trade, Capers will start (we can afford to use one less national) and a 2nd rounder is always great.

Anyone know if Capers is any good and what his contract term is?

Very rare to trade a starting Canadian O-lineman.  They must feel that the Goose is ready.

Wonder if Walters is reading this board, starting to notice and recognizing the gravity of the fans anger

I'm looking at this like we lost a completely useless player in exchange for something. Goosen at the very least can fill in for Greaves

He was part of the O-Line that helped Pat White and Steve Slaton set their crazy college records. Neato. Also can line up as a tight end. 

If this kid is in any way related to Byron Capers, I like it that much more.......

Great trade. Greaves was probably going to be asked to take a pay cut or be handed his walking papers in the off season.

My guess is Neufeld with Capers at RT. 

Capers started at tackle and at guard for Edmonton so probably him?

Bryant Longo Picard Chungh Neufeld makes the most sense

Good trade for us. Wonder what Edmonton was thinking? I guess Greaves is better than a DT through.
