"All this isn't to say the Bombers don't want Willy back, because they do -- especially as rumblings grow louder Robert Marve, his promising understudy, is interested in chasing his NFL dream after his contract runs out following this season."
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113046 400k is more than Mitchell is making, close to what Reilly is making. They'll settle somewhere around 375k and all will be good.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113048 Willy needs to show us he's worth that kind of money this season. I don't care if they pay him that, as long as he shows some improvement in his reads and starts to connect with his receivers more.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113049 I'd say the last paragraph of the article sums it up... "If this season unfolds as they hope and he lights up defences while leading the club to the playoffs, they know they'll be held up for ransom by Willy's camp next winter. And that's a big, fat cheque they'd then be more willing to write."
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113051 Interesting that Marve will pursue the NFL after this season. That saddens me.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113053 What is most compelling about this situation to me is to see how many people jump off the Willy bandwagon and forget how difficult it can be to acquire a franchise QB. We need to keep him. Don't let him bend you over the barrel, but if you're going to overpay for a player, it should be him.

March 25, 201510 yr comment_113062 This is pretty strange imo. Drew doesn't deserve a raise for this year yet. If we didn't completely fall off the cliff in the 2nd half last season then maybe, but we did. so he shouldn't get a raise until after this season.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113071 I agree that Willy has shown potential but the sample size is too small for a massive raise. The only way might be to build in performance bonuses.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113089 When there hasn't been much Bomber news in the last while, this suddenly becomes a bigger story than it ultimately is.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113091 Interesting about Marve. I wonder how many teams will actually give him a legitimate shot after next year, unless he somehow gets most of the starts and plays lights out. I just don't see that happening unless Willy gets injured.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113092 I wonder who leaked the story? I highly doubt this type of thing is going to get the fans behind the Willy camp.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113095 I wonder who leaked the story? I highly doubt this type of thing is going to get the fans behind the Willy camp.Kyle Walters is quoted in the article so I don't think it was leaked.

I highly doubt this type of thing is going to get the fans behind the Willy camp.Kyle Walters is quoted in the article so I don't think it was leaked. I highly doubt the contract value the Willy team is looking for came from Walters. It sounds like the reporter is following up with Walters on the leaked information that Willy is looking for a contract that will pay him $400M a year.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113103 Willy and his agent would be silly not to do everything they can to cash in. Walters and the Bombers would be silly to just give in. This is just plain and simple negotiating, it'll get worked out. He wants to stay and the Bombers want to keep him.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113109 A fair offer in my opinion would be 350K plus incentives that could bump it to 400K depending on performance.

I highly doubt the contract value the Willy team is looking for came from Walters. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the $400k figure came from Walters.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113112 Seems expensive for a QB with no track record... even $350 seems pushing it.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113113 Seems expensive for a QB with no track record... even $350 seems pushing it.That's why I think it's likely the leak came from the Bombers, to show Willy's agent is being unreasonable. My bet is it came from Walters himself or Darren Cameron.
March 25, 201510 yr comment_113118 I agree that Willy has shown potential but the sample size is too small for a massive raise. The only way might be to build in performance bonuses. Right or wrong, some athletes would disagree with this. Again, right or wrong some athletes expect some sort of security other than being paid for what they deliver. Similar to having a base salary where most of your income comes from commission.
