December 22, 201410 yr comment_100764 Really interesting read, thanks. It's a really strong point he makes, about movie theatres not wanting to be liable for this type of thing. How can you blame them? It's not up to movie theatres to stand up to terrorists. Weak kneed President. Putting the screws to North Korea with even tougher economic sanctions would be a start. What sanctions are left to impose? The only American import into North Korea is Dennis Rodman.

December 22, 201410 yr Author comment_100794 Im more of a right wing guy when it comes to forign policy but I understand the delicate nature of these things. Im on board with renewed relations with Cuba because I think that will eventually lead to democracy there. I think Iran will be democratic one day because the people want western things. But it cant be forced. They people will have to want it bad enough. North Korea will let every man woman and child starve to death before they give in and the people are weak. NK has the backing of China. But the great thing about a leadership like NK is they are batshit crazy and prone to doing stupid things. They are annoying China. The US cant bomb NK into the stone age because China is like their big brother but annoy China enough to stop sticking up for you and NK will collapse. They will eventually see the light because its inevitable. I would be fine seeing a bombing of their infrastructure but the US would have to have China on board for that. And the last thing anyone wants is a depserate NK selling nukes to someone.
December 22, 201410 yr comment_100809 My favorite scene from Team America: Obama really did **** the bed on this Sony thing. Sony went to the White House for help: http://deadline.com/2014/12/michael-lynton-sony-hack-north-korea-obama-the-interview-1201331113/ And they did nothing, and now they are blaming Sony for their troubles. Total ass-covering. If this had been George W. Bush the media would be all over Bush and calling him an idiot, but as usual, Obama gets a free pass. What else is new.
December 22, 201410 yr Author comment_100815 If Bush was in the White House, he would call NK out and threaten military action. We can debate that all we want, but Obama is generally very weak on foreign policy and this is another example. We can say Obama was not prepped well by his people but he hires his people so the buck stops with him. He shouldnt have blamed Sony. Can you imagine? Blaming Sony. Wow. And the refusal to use the word "cyberterrorism" because he wont label anyone or anything as a terrorist. Obama is just snoozing though the rest of his term. it wouldnt surprise me to see a despot little nation like NK try something knowing Obama is unlikely to do anything about it before the next election. Even if the Dems win, Hillary is stronger on foreign policy and who knows who might be President if the Rebublicans win (Jeb?) but they too will be stronger than Obama.

The Saudis are tired of Obama's weak-kneed foreign policy too, and have been carrying out bombing strikes of their own on ISIS and in Libya, which of course have largely gone unreported.
December 22, 201410 yr Author comment_100828 I get that the US doesnt want to be perceived as going it alone. But I think a by-product of a weakened US is a weakened UN. The UN is a joke. A middle east solution has to come from the middle east and I like the movement of Cuba. But ISIS is a cancer that needs to be cut out.
December 22, 201410 yr Author comment_100834 Apparently there is a massive attack on NK's internet currently. Word is most of the Internet in NK is down.
December 22, 201410 yr comment_100836 U.S. Government retaliating? China shutting them down (North Korea's internet goes through China's infrastructure)? Or just a bunch of civilian hackers doing their thing.

Or just a bunch of civilian hackers doing their thing. I would love it if the US (or China at US's request) has NK's internet shut down. "We will hack you more! Oh uh....hmmmm..never mind"

Other countries in the region should be carrying their fair share of the load. It makes no sense for US to do all of the dirty work.

The US hasn't gone to war with a country that could fight back since Vietnam, and it certainly won't start now with North Korea. If it didn't start a war with China, it would probably result in South Korea being hit with a nuclear bomb. Besides, should military action really be threatened over a movie company hack?
December 22, 201410 yr comment_100845 I dont North Korea would hit South Korea with a nuke. If they were attacked? I'd be shocked if they didn't.
December 22, 201410 yr Author comment_100850 That wouldnt be wise. And Im sure China would have something to say about that. I do think this is something of a national security issue. A Nuclear Nation is threatening 9/11 style attacks on US soil. There's rhetoric you ignore and then there's delivering consequences when necessary.
December 23, 201410 yr comment_100897 But here's the gist.. They cannot without a doubt pinpoint it was NK who hacked Sony. So you cannot attack a country on a maybe... Can you send a million hack attempts, ddos attacks on infrastructure and paralyze their internet? Sure.. Because nobody can definitively say it was American hackers..
December 23, 201410 yr comment_100900 Well, North Korea's one computer was down yesterday. So, naturally they took to their telegraph lines & rotary phones to keep in touch . It's rumoured that North Korean spies have infiltrated America's libraries in order to find out how to modernize their communications system. They are particularly interested in the Pony Express.

Can you send a million hack attempts, ddos attacks on infrastructure and paralyze their internet? Sure.. Because nobody can definitively say it was American hackers.. They seem to be saying it was NK pretty definitely. And NK sort of gives it away when they plead innocence, demand a joint investigation, claim its a US set up and then praise the hackers. Something will eventually happen with NK. Either revolution or war. They keep pushing their luck and dont really suffer any consequences.
December 23, 201410 yr comment_100937 Sony will be releasing the movie (albeit in a limited capacity) afterall. http://money.cnn.com/2014/12/23/media/screening-the-interview/

I wonder if the "attack" on NK yesterday had anything to do with it. I hope Cineplex Canada changes their tune on this also.
January 4, 201510 yr Author comment_101863 US announces new sanctions against NK. NK calls them repugnant and hostile which I think is the point so that's a win for the U.S.

January 5, 201510 yr comment_101877 I thought this was decided like 2 weeks ago, that it was a girl who was fired about 6 months ago and was getting revenge...?
January 5, 201510 yr Author comment_101878 The U.S. said today it was still North Korea and the private firms saying otherwise are not privy to their Intel. But there are many anti government people that love their enemies, like idiots such as rodman and penn. The Sony employee angle I read was that she might have helped NK target specific servers.
