Has a combined 16 game losing streak going. :-\

Hamilton with a 1-6 record is holding down a playoff spot while the last place 5-4 BC Lions would be out.  Sounds fair.

But it's also not going to last. Hamilton will get to play Montreal and Ottawa in the last part of the season, you think all those teams are going to stick at 1 win after that?

Yes. It will be a tie and if it has to be broken the game will continue until after the grey cup is played( because they both suck)

One of the reasons we have this controversy going is the league deliberately scheduled many east west games in the early schedule and fewer intra-divisional games .... so no confidence building from getting a win or two against divisional rivals (and toning down teams with strong records) .... so the worse it gets the worse it gets ... I think that's called momentum ... or its opposite whatever we call that

From ugly to bad. That's not saying much.

Toronto is the only team who has a remote chance at finishing over 500 and they have to finish 7-2. Very unlikely.

The league should never have a schedule like this again. They need to have the intra-divisional games evened out between the early and late season. I get what they were trying to do, build excitement and make games more meaningful after labor day when attendance traditionally fall off, but it has to be considered an embarrassment to the league to have such a stark difference between the divisions at the halfway point of the season.

What if things were reversed & the West Division was the doormat. AND...the Bombers were out of it in August? How many fans would be going to the games at IGF? This is an anomally. Things will be different next year.

They just need to make the schedule a little more carefully. The West has been beating the crap out of the East for years now. The league was always able to schedule East vs. East enough times during the first part of the season that no one really paid attention to how big the variance in divisions were. This year the schedule did not hide the CFL's dirty little secret.

The expansion draft really upset things. In order to accommodate Ottawa, the BOG's lowered the quality of play in the entire CFL.There aren't enough quality Canadian OL from CIS to stock the teams. It's killing offenses.

I don't buy this at all. No teams lost any significant OLs to Ottawa. You could argue the expansion draft helped improve the Bombers OL by our ability to acquire Neufeld.

Why would I think that? It's pretty obvious that can't happen (unless there are a statistically improbable amount of ties). Regardless of the amount of wins that are given out based on interdivisional play in the East, we are still likely looking at a double crossover scenario from the West.  There is absolutely no evidence to suggest the East (outside of Toronto) can win against the West, and the other teams in the East likely won't be beating Toronto either. I may have mis-counted but there are only 7 guaranteed wins left between Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa.

I don't want to start making charts about what the odds are for teams ending with a certain record, but it is definitely possible that the last place team in the West has a better record than the 2nd place team in the East.

oh sure it's possible, but come on, the west teams are going to start beating up on each other pretty soon as well. Calgary and Edmonton have a back to back coming, that's either 2 losses for one of them or one loss a piece, Bombers and Sask same deal. Either one team is picking up 2 more losses or it's one a piece and some team is that much closer to a .500 record. It's a screwy schedule with basically everything to be decided still.

The last place team in the West, considering the records right now with 9 or 10 games left to play, could still realitiscally have more points than the first place team in the East. 9 - 9 or even 10 - 8 may leave you sitting on the outside looking in while in the East 6 - 12 could get you top spot! This is a problem ...

Wait until it happens before we start freaking out about it. What happens if the west all collectively beats up on BC and they don't win more than 7 games? Is it THAT much of a stretch to think that 2nd in the east can't get to 7 wins or even 8? The most likely scenario as I see it is that the west is going to be very balanced with everyone winding up within a few games of .500 whereas the Argos should have a winning record against the East as well and get above .500 and probably get 2nd place in the east seperating themselves from the bottom 2 as well.

What ever happened to the exciting 3 down football? Halfway through the year each team has scored on average 1.2 passing TD per game. Yesterday's BC/Sask game like too many this year had about the same entertainment value as taking 3 valium pills. After the first 3 minutes the only exciting moment was when Bagg developeds instant rheumatoid arthritis.

Agreed.  I think the schedule makers put too much thought into setting it up for rivals to clash late in the season, next year I hope the geniuses leave it to a computer program to find a better balance.

People realize something like this happened 6 years ago. The sky did not fall.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_CFL_season

but in 2008 with only 8 teams, the best 6 still made the playoffs. with 9 teams and the strongest teams all in the west there is that chance that the best 6 records don't make the playoffs (assuming Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatchewn, BC and Toronto have the best 6 records when it's all said and done).
