  • I too hate having players among the best at their position in the team. Bring back Tim Burke so we can suck again.

The difference is, is that at the time Simon was not better than Milt, Bruce, or Gordon. No one knew what Simon was going to become. He only had 725 yards for us in 2000 before he went to the NFL. There was no reason to overspend for him considering who we had. Hindsight is always 20/20 though of course.

I don't think we would have had to overspend

Imagine if we had kept Milt, Bruce and Geroy together? Hindsight kills me sometimes.

Considering the CFL was uncapped and Bauer forced Taman to a tight budget, I doubt that being possible considering the money that guys like Khari, Roberts, Sellers, Brown, and other elite players commanded at that time.

Alex Hall = Geroy Simon? Hes a very good DE but I mean Simon was one of the best, if not the best receiver in CFL history...

But i do agree with the idea that he could easily go on to do awesome elsewhere (and against us) or we can figure it out and not pass on 12-15 sacks and some very good run stopping for a pass rush specialist..

I think people forget just how loaded that team was. Bobby Gordon might have been old, but he was a favourite target of Kharis in clutch time and you don't just cut that at the drop of a hat for a young guy with potential when you have another young guy loaded with potential in Arland Bruce already on the team. Plus you still had your super star SB in Stegall and a top RB in Roberts. There was still only one football around back then.

I hate the comparison now because our defensive line right now isn't nearly as stacked as our receivers were back then.

I recall well how good Bobby Gordon was, I still feel Taman should have signed Simon and cut Mills since we had Roberts, Mills and Eric Blount at the time.

But cutting Mills doesn't give you more receivers on the field all the time, and it's very likely that if they had kept him that Geroy Simon wouldn't have developed into the player he became. He would have still been 2nd fiddle at best to Stegall, he would have had to deal with the shitty quarterbacks post Khari and the shitty coaches post Ritchie.

O'Shea doesn't see where recent NFL-cut and former #Bombers and #Riders defensive end Alex Hall fits in on his team. Whose job does he take?

I remember when Geroy Simon came back from the NFL .... coach couldn't see where he would fit into their plans either

I would sooner make the argument that if we signed Bryant because we want to have veteran depth at the receiver position, that same logic could be extended to Hall and our Dline.

Couldn't tell you if his skill set falls within the demands of an Etchvery Dlineman.  He certainly doesn't lack athleticism.

Gorgeous Bobby G will always have a roster spot on my Bomber team.  The man was money.  Pure money.

Aaah, the good old days....I'm getting all teary-eyed.

Its such a shame that bobby gordon got old, lol.. Ditto derek armstrong tho not as talented overall... Plus he gets bonus points for being an ex-rider who came here and did pretty good :D

I don't really see a need for Bombers to go after Hall.

well I am saying this with all due respect, but you're out of your mind. This team NEEDS help on the d-line. Last couple games we have absolutely sucked getting pressure on qbs from the DL. Getting a top teir pass rusher would do all kinds of good for this team.

I read somewhere that Hall doesn't fit into Etch's defensive schemes. Apparently MOS said that. I was surprised.

Wish Kenny Ploen had stayed 28. We'd have 40 Grey Cups by now.

Not without Leo Lewis.

Strategically, Gallipoli actually had some merit....it was the execution of it, that was wretched......Not having a joint naval/army effort right upfront...was major fail from the get-go.  The myopic and feeble leadership from the front commanders, helped seal the deal.

Can't believe some of the comments of us not 'needing' Hall or "Hall doesn't fit in Etch's defense". Reminds me, a few years ago, when we had a  young Canadian Olineman at guard and some poster here (same one maybe?) went on a bit of a rant on how 'overrated' he was and he wasn't even the 3rd best olineman on our team (or something to that affect). The following season was his last here, and signed at home and all Brendon Labatte is now is (arguably) the best Canadian Olineman in the CFL. Yep - don't sign Hall - we don't need him... Phuuuuuulease

if it had worked, it would have opened a two-front war, which could have ended WWI a lot sooner. Considering the millions that died in the following three years, it was a gamble worth taking.

Hall fits in any defence, he's that good.  The thing is that signing expensive free-agents will cost you depth at other positions so it has to be determined if he is worth the cost.  For me, QB, o-line and National Depth are how championship teams are built.

I believe The Bombers are making a huge mistake if the pass on Hall. It is guaranteed that Hall would make the rest of the Dline more dominant.

It would make the Bomber D-Line better for sure.  I think the Bombers need to focus more on improving their O-Line and overall National Depth (like every other team after the REDBLACK pillaging).
