I feel we're no longer seeing the team that used to hit people in the mouth on every down. 2019 & 2021 football is long gone.

I saw some of that on D to start the game, but their will was killed with the offense doing less than nothing.

Yep. He was really off a few times. He also hesitates every single time he gets close to the first point of contact. That's when you need to be hitting it hard.

That's what made Grant good. He just caught the ball and went. Hesitate at this level and guys are just going to tee off on you.

  • Seriously worried that we kept the wrong QB. I'm debating whether this is the worst game I've seen in this stadium. It's this or vs Argos Frito Ray 2014 for worst game I've personally seen at Fort Hew

  • Hubris is exactly the word for that one.  Years of "player x doesnt need to practice" "player y is a pro, he doesnt need reps in the pre-season"  "we dont need to use that rule, and we can start 8-9-1

Sometimes it's ok to just smash the ball at the other team... that's what works for Oliveira.  Just wear them down. The key for all of it though is to stay on the field and allow it to take a toll. It's also a long term thing where eventually he's going to pass and everyone will in theory be looking for the run.

Pretty disappointed in what Streveler showed last night, cause it was just the same old thing. He demonstrated no sign he's advanced beyond a super-charged version of Prukop pigeon-holed into executing 3 different options of running plays.  His crashing and bashing in 2019 almost ended on the 6 game then and the same thing will happen if he plays that way now, 4 years older.  It may have been nostalgic folly to bring him back especially in a year Zach may decline,  they need to be fully invested in identifying his future replacement.  Delaying that process by another year with Strev. taking up 2nd QB reps could be a critical mistake .

He’s running the plays that are being called.  Perhaps concerning is in our last 4 games including pre season. We are 0 and 4.

It’s also possible that other teams are getting better and we are regressing.

Yup. No hesitation no fear, catch every ball, run down field.

He didn't by any means run the same stuff. PA power option, option toss, qb sweep, none of that stuff is what we've seen before. He also nearly broke a short yardage play for a long score. They didn't let him throw the ball so we didn't really see any thing, but what he did was a LOT better than what poopkup did here.

Yup. Go back to the grey cup and we have no wins, and 1 TD pass which was in the pre season, combined.

Well if Buck intends to utilise him as a one-trick-pony, he won't stay healthy long and it will be a wasted year of QB development.  Consider it took Dru Brown 3 years to emerge as a viable replacement.

Dru never came in to games very often. He started or didn’t play. Maybe in a blowout with 4 minutes left. But rarely to never did they take Zach out and put Dru in. For dru to play Zach was hurt or took a headshot. They never take Zach out even when he sucks.

Basically all his reps came last year when Zach was hurt. First 2 seasons he didn’t play much at all.

He does have to walk to line carefully to keep him healthy and not make it so that every time he goes in he is just running. I believe he is working on that as well especially with the 2 QB jet sweep we saw a glimpse of.

Lamar jackson and the ravens have done it as well as any team at any level while keeping him reasonably healthy. (86 games over 6 years) The keys to keeping him healthy are 1, strevy needs to know when to stop fighting for yards, and 2, we need to have him throw hand it off and run it so teams can't just run down field every time he comes on. Also, you need to stretch the field in other directions and keep the D honest. To run QB power you have to be spreading the field sideline to sideline, and even more so down field. That way you create big running lanes and leave strevy on DBs not mainly on big body positions.

Turd of the game for me was that Als ops guy who had a giant sign that just said "MONTREAL ALLOUETTES" on it for Noel Thorpe. Was it to hide their playcall signals? Advertising? Annoying the fans? Nobody will ever know.

It was certainly a distraction. Peculiar that the sign was held on the field.

Refs sucked. Just awful. Also Jefferson getting held = legit pass protection.

It’s true but the als were also very smart with when to let go. When you grab push/pull and let go / change hands you get away with it a lot more. They walked the line really well for the most part. Or disguised it masterfully any way.

I mean on the replay his hand came down across the face mask so technically correct.... but soft as baby **** none the less. That dirt bag ankle roll was bad though, karma took care of that at least.

Not lot of penalties called but several were bad timing. That face mask call, looked made up by the ref but I haven’t seen the replay. I think the rule says, “grasping the face mask”. Rule 7;art 4 e). https://cfldb.ca/rulebook/fouls-and-penalties/major-fouls/  It was quick and I doubted there was a legit grasp. It almost seemed that because it was a decent hit, the ref threw the flag and decided later what to call it. The penalty gave the visitors some momentum.

At most it was a brush, not a grasp, it would have taken command center 3 seconds to correct that call.  They'll never get where they need to be, if they don't know how to get there.

His finger hooked a bit of the mask on the way down.  So technically you can call it a face mask but it was a 10 ply soft call

The other argument would be that it was contacting the helmet, so still a roughing the passer... a very soft roughing the passer, but been called the last couple years either way.

He was out of the pocket and down field, wouldn’t be rtp, he wasn’t a passer any more.

Any you cut it, that was a soft marginal at best call in a game with some pretty bad missed calls. Or in other words, “forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.” Wouldn’t be a cfl game with out a horrible inconsistency in penalty enforcement.

It seems there is less controversy in a missed call, (except Zach getting whacked in the head) than there is for a shitty at best marginal call. Watching the NFL seems like way more tolerance for marginal actions than shown by some winded Fat Pig CFL official.

I will say.... Sometimes you have to eat a **** sandwich to appreciate the little things in life. I haven't seen a loss at Fort Hew in a LOOOOOOONG time. I was due.... I've seen the past two Banjo Bowls and Home Openers and Playoff games. I was due for a **** sandwich. **** me right?

You know, the one good thing about a prolonged losing streak is that some posters here will stop calling Princess Auto Stadium, Fort Hew.

Hope so. If he figures it out we can still have an elite team. It’s gonna take making a few of his favourites sit down though, we’ll see.

It will be easy to tell, by 2 factors

1- moving forward, not using Canadian backups as starters tor no good reason.
2- We see them give Streveler a shot at running the full offence if Collaros pukes all over himself again.

The only thing I’d really question Walters on (besides not keeping Brown, but that’s super debatable still) is how they’ve significantly buggered up the ST this year with no returner and clinging to this global punter idea.

We had no returner last time when Grant was injured. We learned a whole lot of nothing from that. We've done the exact same thing except... Grant ain't coming back. Why can't we sign a free agent returner. I don't care about the salary cap. There's not a couple of pieces of deadwood on the roster we could get rid of?? Looked like there was plenty to me on Thursday just filling space, including some coaches.
