SHANGHAI, March 30 (Reuters) - Authorities began locking down some western areas of Shanghai two days ahead of schedule, as new COVID-19 cases in China's most populous city jumped by a third despite stringent measures already in place to try to stop the virus spreading.

Home to 26 million people, China's financial hub is in the third day of a lockdown officials are imposing by dividing the city roughly along the Huangpu River, splitting the historic centre west of the river from the eastern financial and industrial district of Pudong to allow for staggered mass tests.

There was a really good article earlier this week from the WHO about the 3 likeliest outcomes for the pandemic this year and the most likely, in fact probable, is that its going to continue petering out and, while it's going to be super transmissible, it won't be severe. Apparently.

Variants will keep existing along as large portions of the world's population remain unvaxxed.

We are lucky here in Manitoba Our vaxx rate is pretty decent but compare it to places with much larger populations and yup.... variants will continue coming.

Just wait till ppl start traveling more in the summer, shits gonna be bad again but our govt here don't care. Remember that the next Provincial election

Saw a recent interview on the news where an infectious disease specialist reminded that while a decent number of Canadians have had up to three doses (with a fourth being considered for some high risk groups), there are some parts of the world where people have not yet received any.

The Novavax vaccine differs from the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines in that it is a protein-based vaccine and not an mRNA vaccine.

The two-dose Nuvaxovid vaccine produced by the U.S. biotech firm Novavax showed 90 per cent effectiveness in protecting clinical trial participants from symptomatic COVID-19, and 100 per cent effectiveness in preventing severe disease, according to a press releasefrom the company.

Is it weird that the majority of people that work at Superstore except for checkers don't wear masks anymore, wasn't their union all up in arms at the height of Covid that they weren't getting enough ppe and needed danger pay. Funny how the majority of shoppers still wear masks.

This is probably a commentary on the smarts of the workers.

Umm no but maybe a wee bit. I used to work there. Trust me, the people who own the place and the managers who run them do not give 2 shits about their workers. Never did. Was all just for show... the union? Lol they protect the person who refuses to wear the mask also btw.

Fun fact,  I quit because I won some money then covid hit so I said I don't need this crap anymore. But I have "friends" who still work there. Some are complete morons tho, some aren't. Depends on what side of bed they wake up on. I'd rather not go there but the store I worked at, they were hiring ppl left right and center b4 I left during covid, 99.9999 percent of them? For lack of better term, just got off the boat. That means they don't ***** or complain like some of us certainly did. The 2 dollar an hour pay raise lasted like 6 weeks btw.

It was gone b4 I was. Yup. Superstore don't care about their employees at all, never did. Fun fact, every person I used to work with at Superstore got covid, 3 people died. They don't care, they just replaced them with ppl who barely speak English. They show up,  struggle to do their job and slow everyone else down but they don't ***** or whine or complain . If the manager told me to jump I'd say no, they tell these new folks to jump, they say how high. They pile in to their cars on break like clowns to go get food, no bs, 1 of the so called rules was no going on break with multiple friends, oh but that doesn't apply to these ppl as they just wouldn't clock out. Then get one of their other Moron friends to fix it for them so it looked like they all went for break at different times. So many ppl I know left b4 I did even (turnover rate is yuge)

Managers are all upstairs in their offices tho not dealing with the public. They don't care as they rarely come deal with the public.

I should seriously go in to more details cuz if ppl seriously knew what went on at most these superstores, you'd never EVER go there again without wearing a hazmat suit. Seriously.  Wear a mask, wear gloves,  cover yourself in sanitizer, I mean it. They don't care one bit and believe me when I say this, few ppl got covid early and they were supposed to clean the store,  well guess what cleaning consisted of? Basically absolutely nothing so... If u been to Superstore (any of them) in the last 2 years, you likely had covid.

I still remember the meeting that made me pretty much walk out half way through my shift and Said **** this and **** you...

They announced a death and then proceeded to show zero sympathy for anyone. Zero. None. Basically yeah employee X Y and Z died, so we are hiring some new ppl to replace them. There are cards upstairs now go to work and bust your ass and not only that sweat it off for us cuz plus 45 inside the store at times, I did an hour of my shift then straight up left my **** in an aisle and walked out. Enough of this, screw you guys I'm going home.  I ain't risking my health and daughters health for ppl who don't give a ****.

I'll be real at first they sent ppl off to be tested If Ill and couldn't come back for 14 days and they would pay you your regular hours. I got sick b4 I left, wasn't covid, I missed 3 shifts, I got paid but... 2 weeks later,  they didn't give a ****. Let's get some good press saying we paying our workers more and we care cuz 14 day quarantine but when the press went away so did the rest. Stay away from that hell hole, only thing that matters is how much money they make and damn it, the store better be making more money than the other ones.

Superstore has been a hellhole since I was a child. Literally the only good thing it has going for it is underground parking... great place to work on my car in the winter

Superstore has been the go to grocery shopping since I was a child,  the prices are far better then Safeway.

Now Wal-Mart on the other hand is a hellhole..... mostly because of the clientale.

Yep they are undeniably the least expensive grocery store. I was dragged to Superstore enough times as a child that I never wanted to go back. When I moved out I tried... the prices were far cheaper than Safeway but the produce was hit and miss if it was actually in stock. Bakery didn't hold a candle to Safeway (til Sobeys took over, now it all sucks). I think as an adult I only went back for passport photos...

I'll go to Wal-Mart for an oil change (if I don't feel like doing it in the Superstore garage that is LOL). Won't even walk the aisles while I wait. Blows my mind people get their groceries there.

I guess I'm lucky I don't have to squeeze my pennies together to make them last.
