I came across this quote today in the Guardian. It was in reference to the Epstein/Maxwell/ Prince Andrew affair but I feel it holds true for Trump, many other Trump style politicians , many of today's  elite rich , .......

” Could it be that when you grow up in a tiny bubble of rich, protected, privileged, narcissist- and sociopath-heavy elitists, certain human traits such as empathy, conscience and morality are not as fully nurtured as they might be? Discuss over champagne and little people’s tears.

well well well.

"About a dozen Tory MPs have made similar allegations in the last few days to a colleague who claims the party’s whips have engaged in blackmail, the chair of the Commons standards committee has said.

Chris Bryant’s remarks come as William Wragg, the senior Tory backbencher who accused No 10 of trying to blackmail MPs seeking to oust Boris Johnson, prepares to meet the police over his allegations.

Bryant, the Labour MP for the Rhondda, said he took the allegations very seriously and underlined that they were a matter for the police."

Tensions soared Monday between Russia and the West, with NATO outlining a series of potential troop and ship deployments and Ireland warning that upcoming Russian war games off its coast would not be welcome while concerns abound that Moscow is planning to invade Ukraine.

The Western alliance's statement summed up moves already announced by individual member countries — but restating them under the NATO banner appeared aimed at showing the alliance's resolve. It was just one of a series of announcements that signaled the West is ramping up its rhetoric in the information war that has accompanied the Ukraine standoff.

Russia has massed an estimated 100,000 troops near Ukraine's border and is demanding that NATO promise it will never allow Ukraine to join and that other actions, such as stationing alliance troops in former Soviet bloc countries, be curtailed. Some of these, like any pledge to permanently bar Ukraine, are non-starters for NATO — creating a seemingly intractable standoff that many fear can only end in war.

"LONDON (AP) — London police said Tuesday they were investigating Downing Street lockdown parties in 2020 to determine if U.K. government officials violated coronavirus restrictions, putting further pressure on Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The Metropolitan Police Service has launched an inquiry into “a number of events” at Downing Street because they met the force’s criteria for investigating the “most serious and flagrant” breaches of COVID-19 rules, Commissioner Cressida **** told the London Assembly, the capital’s local government council."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday confirmed Ukraine's desire to join NATO amid Russian demands for guarantees the alliance would not allow its neighbour to become a member.

"We would like NATO membership. It would ensure our security, our territorial sovereignty. It's fixed in the Ukrainian constitution," Zelensky said at a news briefing with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The U.S. has issued warnings of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine amid ongoing attempts to de-escalate soaring tensions.

Moscow wants guarantees from the West that NATO won't allow Ukraine and other former Soviet countries to join as members, and that the alliance will halt weapons deployments to Ukraine and roll back its forces from Eastern Europe, demands flatly rejected by the West.

"Many leaders hint slightly that Ukraine shouldn't risk and talk constantly about its membership in the alliance. Because these risks are connected to Russia's reaction. I think that no one hides it anymore. I think we should be sincere. It's our decision to take anyway," Zelensky told reporters...

Here's hoping cooler heads prevail and a diplomatic outcome can be achieved without escalation.

I wouldn't get too worried about this. An armed conflict would be a lose-lose-lose scenario for all involved. Russia is ruled by oligarchs who have come to love winters in Nice or the Costa Del Sol and all the perks that come with wealth. A war would cripple the Russian economy, which is only the size of Spain's, for years. This is a giganitic penis contest, and unless something really stupid happens, the worst that will occur is some minor skirmishes.

To say nothing of how an actual occupation of Ukraine would go....for the Russians..

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainians defied pressure from Moscow with a national show of flag-waving unity Wednesday, while the West warned that it saw no sign of a promised pullback of Russian troops from Ukraine’s borders despite Kremlin declarations of a withdrawal.

While a feared Russian invasion of Ukraine on Wednesday did not materialize, the United States and its allies maintain that the threat remains strong, with Europe’s security and economic stability in the balance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled he wants a peaceful path out of the crisis, and U.S. President Joe Biden promised that the U.S. would continue to give diplomacy “every chance,” but he struck a skeptical tone about Moscow’s intentions. Biden also insisted that Washington and its allies would not “sacrifice basic principles” respecting Ukraine sovereignty.

Russia has massed about 150,000 troops east, north and south of Ukraine. Moscow denies it has any plans to invade and announced a pullback of some forces and weapons, though it gave few details. Even though Putin has not committed to a full withdrawal, the Russian statements also seemed to lower the political temperature following weeks of escalating East-West tensions.

The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin is ordering forces to maintain peace in Eastern Ukraine. But it is not immediately clear whether troops would enter the country, and if so, when.

The announcement follows a day of fast-moving developments in which Putin announced the recognition of separatist regions in Ukraine. The United States and the European Union responded by saying they would impose sanctions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized two breakaway regions in Eastern Ukraine as independent entities on Monday, drawing U.S. and European vows of new sanctions and upping the ante in a crisis the West fears could unleash a major war.

In a lengthy televised address, Putin described Ukraine as an integral part of Russia's history and said Eastern Ukraine was ancient Russian lands and that he was confident that the Russian people would support his decision.

This is gross.

FYI: Putin has formally recognized the occupied two areas of Ukraine as part of Russia, and now this is his pretext  to send in uniformed military to solidify possession. The reality is that these areas have been occupied by un-uniformed Russian troops for months under the guise of these being "separatists".  The only question what kind of response (if any) the rest of the world will give. The partition of Ukraine and occupation of these parts was always Putin's endgame.  He expects that there will be a lot of hand-wringing but the rest of the world will be relieved enough that all-out war has been avaoided that they will do essentially token  protests.
