Every team is running route combinations that have receivers at several distances and depths. Comes down to the reads of the QB and the amount of time he has to get the ball out (which determines the amount of time there is for receivers to run/complete routes), both perceived from pre-snap reads and actual from what happens when the ball is in his hands.

Bombers are far above league average on 2nd and 6 or less, a bit below league average on 2nd and 7 or more (31.1% to league average 37.6%). 4th in the league at redzone conversion to TD at 62.5%, league average is 58%, behind BC, Ottawa and Sask. Our D is 5th on 2nd down but above league average, 48.1% for Bombers. Better than Calgary in all these areas btw which is kind of odd IMO.

Guys like Marquay McDaniel, Duke Williams, Vidal Hazelton, Manny Arceneaux, Brian Burnam, SJ Green, Brandon Zylstra & Weston Dressler can make YAC yards but most of our receivers don't seem to be able to do that. Darvin Adams can create space running his routes but he isn't the kind of physical receiver who can fight for extra yards like the other guys can. I haven't seen enough of Lankford & Thorpe to make a real good assessment as they are rookies but they look promising for sure to be the physical receivers we need. Adams can definitely fight for extra yards, who have you been watching????
