Why did they sign him? Was Jones worried that there would be a day with no controversy?

He signed Mitchell to hide the fact that he brought on Etch as a consultant.

Worked pretty damn good if you ask me.

In other news, the Riders signed former 73 year old DT Ed McQuarters to a new contract.
