I believe his point was if they set up advanced check points, all you've done is further inconvenienced people, created more large groups for attacking and moved the threat further back. If the entrance to a venue is dangerous, moving the checkpoint 100 feet back doesnt end the threat, it just moves it. That was his point. You do searches now more as a visual deterrent. Its like having home security alarms on your house - if 10 homes have them and one doesnt, which one is most likely to be broken into? Having more checkpoints and encouraging people not to bring a bunch of stuff with them would seem to be a way to keep the crowd moving.

Sure, if you're trying to prevent knives and guns and booze. Normal things. Guy walks up to a check point wearing a bomb. Is he going to check it?

In the US bombs may be the least of their worries when there are laws being passed allowing weapons into sporting events and concerts.
May 25, 20178 yr comment_264521 3 hours ago, Jacquie said: Aren't large numbers of people already being searched when they go to sporting events. There were delays when increased security was initiated but people adapted and they will again if security is increased again. Inconvenienced is better than dead. It's always a sliding scale between convenience and security. You're not going to see everyone strip-searched before entering an event. But that would be the safest option. So to say "inconvenienced is better than dead" is far too simplistic. You always have to find the right balance.

Yeah with 10,000 homicides a year in the USA they are their own worse enemy.

June 23, 20178 yr comment_271022 Well I'm glad we live in a relatively peaceful place. When I take my kid (ages 12) to sporting events or concerts, he has NEVER been searched once. I'm sure this happens to others as well. Now I'm all good with it as I don't even drink when I'm with my kid so we're not smuggling anything in, but I could see this one day biting someone in the ass. I wouldn't put it past radicals from using children as their means to get in the instruments of destruction they are trying to use. I think of all the child soldiers in the world, and kids aren't spared from the wicked and evil. I don't think anything will happen in the immediate future of Winnipeg, but all it takes is 1 nutjob to destroy that peaceful, secure feeling. Seems with the times its a matter of when, not if.

August 18, 20177 yr comment_284261 I'm currently in Spain but no where near Barcelona. Vermin like these who attack the innocent need to be hunted down. Those who support them and instruct them need to be stopped.
August 18, 20177 yr comment_284290 The neo Nazi who drove into the crowd in Charlottesville is as much of a vermin as the Islamic terrorists. The US has the death penalty. Hope he hangs or fries.

November 24, 20177 yr comment_306989 I will never understand the mentality of trying to win people over to your cause by killing women, children and civilians. it doesn't win people over... it chases them to the arms of the people who they are attempting to "win" against. such a stupid mentality and such a waste of lives.

I think their goal is 1) create "victories" to inspire like minded lunatics 2) create hate and vengeance on the other side that they then use as a rallying cry for their own side.
November 25, 20177 yr comment_307115 Terrorism database lists all terrorist incidents from most countries, right back to the seventies and earlier (I think) It's interesting to check the stats for different countries. compared to today. virtually no terrorist attacks inside Iraq, for instance, prior to 2003. https://www.start.umd.edu/gtd/ same with Pakistan, virtually nothing over ten years from 1980 to 1990. Maybe a dozen total deaths in a decade. remarkable resource. Edited November 25, 20177 yr by Mark F

January 29, 20187 yr comment_315806 Quote Earlier this month, when the body of California college student Blaze Bernstein was pulled from the loose dirt of a public park in the Orange County foothills, questions swirled about a motive. He was stabbed 20 times. The 19-year-old University of Pennsylvania sophomore was gay and Jewish, and local law enforcement announced they were investigating whether Bernstein’s death was a hate crime. On Friday, ProPublica published a piece linking Woodward to Atomwaffen Division, a relatively new Charles Manson-obsessed neo-Nazi outfit that defines itself as a “revolutionary national socialist organization centered around political activism and the practice of an autonomous fascist lifestyle.” Pictures from (an) event captured Atomwaffen Division members in skull masks, making Nazi salutes. (Their) website reported that the training included lessons in firearms and hand-to-hand combat, preparation for the group’s “ultimate aim of overthrowing the U.S. government through the use of terrorism and guerrilla warfare.”According to the Anti-Defamation League, Atomwaffen — German for “atomic weapon” — cells have been “reported in multiple states, including Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas, Massachusetts, Washington and Wisconsin.” The group’s “vile propaganda often promotes violence against minority communities, including LGBT people, Jews, Muslims, and African Americans.” washington post washington post
