As a Niner fan we are obliged to hate each other, but at least we can agree that the Packers suck.

Around The NHL 2022-23
Under “bets nobody would have taken at the start of the season”, the Seattle Kraken are percentage-wise the best team in the Western Conference this morning, more than halfway through the season. And if you bet the parlay that Winnipeg would be the second-best West team while Colorado and Florida were outside the playoff line, you’d be a very rich person.

Game 43 @Penguins
Scheif with his 3rd (OK, 2nd that counts). Perfetti looking like he’s over his flu bug tonight. I know Pittsburgh is not the same team that won back to back Cups, but have the Jets played a better game than this all year (maybe other than the Colorado 5-0 win)?

Should just be honest and up front and title this thread “sitting around drinking”.

Space is the Place
To put this into context, Sirius is 8.611 light years from Earth (just over 50 trillion miles away). At 9 miles per second, it will take 5.8 trillion years for that star to reach Earth. Since the Sun will consume Earth in 7.5 billion years, I’d say we have more pressing concerns. But to add more context to 8.6 lights years and distance, the Moon is 239,000 miles from Earth, which equates to 1.3 light seconds.

NFL thread
Given the importance of the Bills-Bengals game (1st and 2nd seeds up for grabs) why did the NFL not just play that one game this coming weekend, push back all the playoff games one week, and skip the week off break before the Super Bowl. Looking for answers other than “that would make too much sense”.

Game 41 : @Red Wings - Woah, we're half way there
A bone-headed play on the penalty kill by Lowry when he doesn’t clear the zone costs the Jets again. Just killing themselves tonight.

Game 41 : @Red Wings - Woah, we're half way there
Jets dominating on the cycle, but one breakdown leads to a goal against. But Gagner gets it back to a 2 goal deficit. All four lines controlling the zone this period. Another dominant cycle shift from the Wheeler-Scheifele-Perfetti line results in a Nate Schmidt goal and we have a game again.

Game 41 : @Red Wings - Woah, we're half way there
Jets have dug themselves a hole, and missed on a lot of good looks before Pionk scored. Need to play a simpler game.

If Jets win or Stars lose on Tuesday, Bowness coaches the all-star game.

Could be. 8 of 9 on the road but only one team in a playoff position on that list (or 2 percentage-wise if you count Pitt).

Not quite that drastic. One person can call for a vote of non-confidence to oust him, but the majority of congress has to then vote him out. Previously the mere motion had to be agreed upon by the majority.

US Politics
The only way to speed this up is to start eliminating the candidate with the lowest number of votes from further ballots. And have anyone nominated declare if they accept the nomination. That avoids all 222 Republicans from cycling through. Then the 20 dissidents ultimately have to vote for McCarthy, choose Jeffries if they really don’t want McCarthy, or nominate a viable candidate to get to 218 rather than just obstructing.

So it turns out it was Renner’s own plow, a fairly sizeable Sno-Cat. He was clearing his private driveway and going to help out neighbours as well. He got out of the plow and at some point it started to roll away. He was injured when he tried to jump back into the moving unoccupied plow to re-gain control over it, according to his own story.

Jordan gets a 20th vote on the 3rd ballot with votes still to come in. Support for McCarthy now eroding.- US Politics
Speculation is that Jim Jordan’s support could grow in the 3rd ballot. So between him and McCarthy (if those are the only two choices) who would Dems rather see? Jordan doesn’t want it because he wants to head the Judiciary committee. Quite possibly to muzzle investigations against himself since his bid for a pardon failed.- US Politics
Dems could just ride it out and maybe some hard core Republicans vote “present” which reduces the number need for the majority. If 11 of the 19 GOP holdouts vote that way Jeffries could actually win with his 212 votes. At least one GOP voter is prepared to let that happen just to make sure McCarthy never gets voted in- US Politics
Why isn’t the lowest vote total eliminated in the next round of voting? - US Politics
