Yes, and like most of the daily angst on this board, it was overblown and sorted itself out by people with more wisdom and control over the situation than us. Would love to see Grant back, but if the cost of his return prevents us from signing another receiver or re-upping Castillo, Kongbo, or Desjarlais if they rerun from the NFL, then I am certain our scouts can unearth another cheaper undersized speedster in the vast array of NCAA prospects and O’Shea and company can coach him up on the nuance of the CFL return game. Plus, we have an in-house solution in Demski if pressed. Grant would seem to be low priority in the big picture, and contract talks would seem to reflect that.

Bud Korchak. Winnipeg born, played with St. John’s and Elmwood before joining the Bombers as a flying wing, 3 time all-star. Wanted to go with Bob McNamara, but the only picture I could find of him in a 96 jersey would not load. But he deserves a mention if for nothing else than for holding one of the more unbreakable records in football with a 6 touchdown game against BC. Alex Hall also a consideration, now best known for the trade which started our o-line re-build with Pat Neufeld.

If a player does nothing other than be a returner, I don’t think they could expect to earn much more than the league minimum. Grant never saw the field as a rusher or receiver in his time here. With the cost of keeping the core intact, I would imagine he would be about as low priority as it would get, and I say that knowing how good he was at the return game. One would think as far as replacements go, that position would be one of the easier ones to fill for a cheaper option.

Problem is that “success” has 3 S’s, whereas “suck” has only the one, so that “S” above is truly a sign of “suck”.

I thought the antlers could have been a good look, but the concept was poorly executed. A number of alternate designs were put forward. The design on this green helmet was a better version IMO, although not perfect. Also, the design at #1 in this grouping was an improvement over what they went with in the end.

Truly remarkable. Beyond that, who can say they won. Grey Cup and a Memorial Cup, who can say they played in a Grey Cup (winning) and a Stanley Cup Final (losing, of course…..it’s the Leafs) in the same season (1959 and 1959-60), and who can say they won a Grey Cup and celebrated by playing an NHL game RIGHT AFTER ON THE SAME DAY????? (NOV. 30/57, a day after he won MOst Outstanding Canadian award). No one else, that’s who.

So I am using Ed Tait’s template of “Bombers by the numbers” and giving extra credit for those he named, and he chose Gavin Walls over Gerry James for “he wore it well”. He put James in for #28 instead, and when I look at that number I see that James stood out well above anyone else there……with one glaring exception in my mind. Plus, James was inducted into the Ring of Honour as #98, so I am going to modify my own standards and include him here along with Gavin Walls who is pictured above. Besides, no reason we can’t have more than one person per day on the countdown picture.

I feel any worthy Bomber is appropriate, but can respect the sore feelings if an active player has moved on and is still playing (I imagine that Andrew Harris may be an exception for some, though). Since Brock is now retired, there should be no reason to exclude him. Honestly, I am happy to throw up a guy like Darvin Adams (for just one example) for all he did for us, even if he wears a RedBlack jersey now (lest we forget that his last ever catch in Blue and Gold was a Grey Cup winning score). I’ll let JCon express his views on whether someone like Harris should be omitted. It’s all a part of discussion in a democratic fandom. Bottom line is, we are inside 100 days to the start of the regular season, people!!!!!! Get lit, MBB!!!!!!!!!!
