Maybe it’s just me, but hockey in June is pathetic, and I love watching hockey. The beginning of the NHL playoffs is exciting and creates lots of excitement, but as each series goes on and the warm weather arrives, I’d much rather be sitting around a campfire than a TV set. Talk of football and roster moves. There’s nothing like it. Besides, there’s always the PVR.

First of all, expansion is just an idea at this time. I’m not convinced. Secondly, no, to any talk about decreasing the Canadian ratio. It is a defining aspect of our game. Perhaps, it would be better to look at the “naturalization” process. A naturalized non-import status. Choose the CFL, become a Canadian citizen, and voilà..non-import. Then, we can increase the number of non-imports per roster... Oh, and drop the designation for QBs. If you have a Non-import at QB...bonus for you.

Randy Ambrosie has already proven to be a Commissioner who is going to make things happen. He doesn’t stay in his office and ‘hear’ about the league, he is out in each city finding out what is happening. This latest idea scares some people and titilates others, but fundamentally, he is right, the League should start earlier. It’s our League, let’s do it the way we Canadians want it. We shouldn’t worry about what other leagues are doing (hockey, baseball) we should just make this League the centrepiece, and let other leagues worry about us. Missing out on that beautiful June weather is a waste, and for what? Tradition? Let’s start a new tradition. The men behind this idea and their CFL counterparts (Gms, Coaches front office) are smart enough to iron out the details and figure this out in time for 2018? Hey hey, let’s not understate the performance of that 26 year old in a playoff game. 8 receptions for 100 yards, 19 of which were yac yards. That’s a pretty darned good game for our National receiver whether others were covered or not. It opens up possibilities for using more than 1 Nat. receiver if the need arises. Imagine that, using Coates when uncovered..

From the Dept. of Hiring the Right People: Back in 2014 when Mike O’Shea was hired as your Head Coach, we, at the Dept., had just undergone a transformation from the Dept. of Enlisting Winners, or DEW, as it was known. With that transformation came new people. We tried to hire personnel with experience in hiring people with experience, but our experience was that it became unavoidable but to hire ‘promising hirers’, as it were. And, as it turns out, we were closed for a period of time (2 weeks) during this changeover, exactly 4 years ago. This was on the recommendation of Tom Higgins, who I understand, is knowledgable in the CFL. I hope that clears things up for those who are concerned. Yours truly, Ben T. Wright
