Depth Chart vs Calgary
Wrong to whom? The fans? We can criticize all we want and have our reasons for doing so, but we aren't in any position to say his roster moves are wrong, or right.I don't think I know more about football than MOS but evaluation of performance isn't as hard as you make it out to be. He deserves to be questioned. Question O'Shea all you want. Evaluation of players doesn't start and stop with just what you've seen on TV and at the games. There's a lot you don't see, unless you're at every practice and in the meetings. I hate that rationale. It's apparent that O'Shea is stubborn, sticks with players far too long and has terrible roster management. There's a significant difference you need to learn when it comes to throwing players under the bus in the media and holding players accountable for their actions and play. Is cutting or sitting a player the only way to hold them accountable? some people seem to think if it doesn't happen infront of cameras/microphones or on twitter it means nothing is happening at all.....

Depth Chart vs Calgary
gotta eat my words. I pretty guaranteed Simmons would be on the game day roster. Wonder why he isn't. Though I'm glad we are going to get veltung and Gordon on the field along with moore and denmark. Lots of speed!!!

Week 10 Aug 30 Sask@Ott. (Tor 15 Edm. 38)
I honestly can't tell if you're being serious here. The runs I saw had him tackled by his foot a few times, and stopped while trying to push for more yards. Also don't forget about his last carry where he tried to go outside (when nothing was there) and ended losing yards that took them out of field goal range.

August 23 practice report
He's claiming people here are saying this is a make or break career moment for Goosen. No one said that. He's a first round pick who has barely played. We just want to know if he can. If he can't it doesn't mean his career is over. If I don't get it, maybe you can clear things up for me, sweep the leg. "Its time to see if Neufeld and Goossen have a future in this league or if our drafting and trading are crappy." That's a quote from this thread. Which is why I said both players have a future and Goossens should be with WPG. As for the CGY/MTL comparison. We have to compare our situation with theirs. That's how we get better. We now have a draft pick that's a starter his rookie year, allowing one project behind him is ideal. Next year hopefully we pick up someone else that can start but if not, take another project and Goossen should be ready to go by then (I think he can fill in now nicely) but if he isn't, we still have the means to develop 2 players while Picard is here and chungh starting.

Montreal Fires Higgins, Popp to be Interim HC
I'm assuming you didn't watch last night...or any game during the NFL season last year.

Montreal Fires Higgins, Popp to be Interim HC
Except the 4 games our QB started and finished where our offence was not a problem at all, other than some redzone issues vs Montreal. I disagree. While our team certainly has some talent issues. Our offence has seen plenty of problems even in games we've won. Especially in the 2nd half. Our O doesn't seem to be able to finish teams or take advantage of mistakes that they make. It happened in SSK, against MTL, BC and in CGY. I'd like to see what another OC could do with the talent we currently have on Offence. We have multiple 100 yard game, receivers on the team. An Oline with some talent (yes some holes too) a running back that has shown he can be productive when given the chance and a QB who can make all the throws accurately. I'm not saying someone else would come in and we would be putting up 45 points a game or something, but it would be interesting to see. And I hope we get to see it next year regardless of what happens this year.

Montreal Fires Higgins, Popp to be Interim HC
No way Higgins ends up in Wpg in any role under O'Shea. Why would O'Shea hire his potential replacement? Does Mike O'Shea strike you as the kind of person who wouldn't hire someone because he's afraid they might take his job? His coordinators are both former head coaches. And neither Hall nor Bellefeuille have had success as head coaches, but Higgins' resume is much better- maybe good enough to be considered. If by some bizarre twist the Bombers get swept by the Riders, I cannot see O'Shea surviving. I can't see a scenario where O shea is fired before the end of the year. I think Miller and Walters know what the issue is with this team, and O'shea is not on the top of that list.

August 23 practice report
Goossen is only in his 2nd year. He has a future in the CFL for sure. Neufeld likely has a few more lives left as well. Hopefully he can stay healthy for the remainder of the year. Edit - I really want the goose's future to be with the bombers. Anyone who doubts, please see MTL and their Oline development.

Grey Cup & Banjo Bowl Temporary Stands
And that's the problem. At the last Grey Cup here we paid the full amount to keep our season's ticket seats. Later they were discounting the tickets. It sure does not make you feel good to see that happening. If I were to go again I would not buy it six weeks before but wait and get the cheap price. Don't call me cheap, call me a guy who did not appreciate being rolled. Yeah,as a season ticket holder I would hope that we would get priority for pricing as well as choice. But it doesn't seem like that happened this year (even with the "discount") and I wouldn't be surprised to see a price drop come November if ticket sales are still going poorly.

Fairly sure the riders would have something to say about that.

Around the CFL Regular Season Discussion
Exactly. Many players don't know when they are done, but figure it out when they start becoming a healthy scratch. I'm a fan of Bowman, he has be great for a long time. Do I want to see him in Green, no way. Yeah I think he could find a role in WPG, but not sure how he would fit in Regina.

Bombers interested in Jasper Simmons, UPDATE: Signed to PR
You have to admit, calgarys lb core is much more talented then ours with the exception of bass (if current trends continue) randle really ought to be back in the secondary and hurl, while coming along, is no simpson. It cant be at all shocking that we would want to add a simmons to our group after seeing how well he can ball while in ottawa. but doing nothing in his 2 years in Toronto and then not even being able to crack the game day roster in Calgary has to be a concern right? I'm going to temper expectations and take a wait and see approach before jumping all over one good year in a poor defence. Was it a poor Defence though? I remember it being pretty solid. The ottawa Offence was horrible last year and lost them plenty of games. But I thought the D was decent.

It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
Rider sympathizer....or Rider fan? Hmmm..... Neither. I just find it comical (and pretty hypocritical) that Bomber fans on this site get so bent about how popular the Riders are nationwide and how boisterous their fans are about their allegiances, and feel they have to shout it down and de-cry it as a "myth". Sucks for them to be 0-7 and be so close in every game, certainly given the injury issues they have had, but I don't feel sorry for them. No one would feel sorry for the Bombers in the same situation. But I feel no overt need to throw it in their faces unless a fan fires the first shot directly at me (and to my face, not over a message board). But I find it sillier that people feel the need to be bothered by how supportive the Rider fans are, both at home and on the road, and the fact that the media comments on it, and the massive need to say "that's a lie!", or "it just gets soooo annoying" when the most ardent Bomber fans do EXACTLY the same thing, like it's OK for us to do it, but a crime for another fan base to. The perception of a strong Rider national fan base is not inaccurate - come to any Banjo Bowl and see how well their fans travel. This is just my opinion, but it smacks of sour grapes and a massive inferiority complex, like it takes away from how good Bomber fans are if we don't get the same props, or if another team gets any credit. And it is so predictable around here, when we do well we can revel in their failure, but when we have a struggling team that we can't puff our chests out about, we revert to the "well they suck too" and "they are in your face about it (like we aren't?). Just funny how childish it seems, and to me, this petty attitude and classlessness DOES reflect badly on our fanbase (and I don't expect anyone to adopt that last line of thinking). I am sure I am overreacting to most, but it is a pet peeve of mine. I don't need to tear down other anonymous people to make me feel better about myself - I don't want to give that kind power to others to determine my life happiness, especially fans of a competing sports team. Anyway, just my observation and opinion, no Rider flag waving intended. First bolded part - FINALLY YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!! Second bolded part - You're likely taking this WAY to seriously. I'm not sure anyone actually needs to do that to make them feel better about themselves. We just hate the riders. Making fun of them is easy, not life affirming. I hate them so much I genuinely hope one day I can say, "hey remember how that lame ass regina franchise only won 4 grey cups in over 100 hundred years then they folded....yeah good times". But if I can't, my life will likely still be pretty solid.

He'll be on the roster vs the stamps. 100%.

The Day Early Game Day Thread - TOR @ WPG
This is true, but Thomas has been doing more than just being in the right spot and the right time. He's making people miss and making the play. So while our DL hasn't been great, I don't think Thomas is getting noticed because he's the better of a weak bunch. I think he is legitimately playing his ass off and has improved.

Worst starter on the team
It hard to single out a DB when you don't know the call on the field. Just because the guy who catches the ball/scores is the guy bucknor lines up in front of, doesn't mean it was his assignment that play. There are so many variables to consider it's almost impossible to know as a fan. Saying that though, I do believe Bucknor is the weak link in the secondary, but not the biggest weakness on the team or even the Defence.

It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
on the rider forum, someone is suggesting we must of overpaid to get him to come here....because we have to overpay to get anyone to come lol. Oh rider fans, never change...well maybe change a bit, like stop being such giant Dbags.

Well what can you say?
That's the point though. Every coach has called a better 2nd half then MB. When has our Offence come alive in the 2nd half this year? One off game of that happening isn't a big deal, but when it happens the majority of the time there's something more then just being unlucky.

If I were Wade miller I would...
I donno, this year there seems to be a shift in the way fans are thinking. I haven't really heard any knowledgeable fans call for Oshea's head. I have heard and am usually leading the parade to get MB fired (but get that it likely won't happen until years end). I think most fans are FINALLY getting that you have to have some continuity to have long term success. Saying that...it's not hard to understand things in terms of MB performance. These past two years read like every year of his career. Shitty offence lots of sacks. Some of the best football minds I know have been saying the bombers won't succeed with him on the staff, and MB has done a decent job of proving them correct.

The Day Early Game Day Thread - TOR @ WPG
yup, his name seems to come up almost every game in a good way. That tackle he made for a safety was awesome! I thought it should have gotten hit of the game instead of Adams hit on kackert, cause that running back was running down hill but thomas stopped him dead in the tracks and sat him down! Hopefully he continues to get better

I don't see Lions winning this. Bighill is their MLB now. and Solomon will be back next year.

Shotgun?
I've been told by someone who coaches football that it was a read option play, and that Marve did make the wrong read. But still.....why a shotgun snap play that has us starting so far behind the line?? That's more wrong than anything Marve did. We've all seen that shotgun play on third and short described on TV as the wrong call, because you've made it third and medium instead. It was a read option play. But with that amount of time left. I don't like the idea of giving a new starting QB an option....run it or throw it. AS in hand the ball off or drop back and toss it. No play action, no read option. The only thing that makes me hesitate calling a run play there is the amount of time left in the game. Otherwise it's a fine call. You need to give your QB options pretty much all the time, but particularly in those late game situations because defenses often guess as to what the offense will do based on their tendencies in that game and defend heavily against certain plays. You also want to call a play that your QB is very comfortable with. It was all kind of a scramble and who knows how it would have played out if Marve had more prep time that week. Probably run a similar option play with a read on one or two receivers pre-snap to see how much cushion they are being given, allowing for a quick hitter to get the first down, or if there is press coverage allowing for a deep shot. The reason for the playcall, as I see it was the following. 1. If the QB gets the edge there is a potential for big yardage. With 24 seconds left it was a short yardage play call with a chance of gaining a big chunk of yardage that was needed due to clock concerns. 2. It is one of our most utilized plays in Marve's short yardage package so he should have had familiarity with the playcall. 3. The Argos had been holding Marshall at bay for most of the 2nd half. 4. Marve has above average running ability. 5. If executed properly it is a high percentage play both ways. While you make solid points about Marve being familar with that play and marshall being almost invisible the second half. You fail to to mention the fact that during every read option play in the second half, marve was getting hit. They never once let marve off the hook during those plays (in the 2nd half). Though often enough Marve was playing into the defender a bit to try and spring Marshall. But either way, they had someone spotting Marve while the D line took on Marshall. I stand by my statement of a horrible play call.

Grigsby was still dressing also no? Just wouldn't be starting.

The Day Early Game Day Thread - TOR @ WPG
Seems MB can't/won't/doesn't know how to adjust in the 2nd half. How many times has our O come out, looked pretty good if not great only to slow down and then come to a complete stand still as the game goes on. I get that Defenses can and do adjust. But why doesn't the Offence adjust to them as well? They do. I lean more towards the rookie QB puking his guts out and injuring his throwing hand having a huge impact. He had a hell of a time going downfield and seemed a lot less willing to both stand in the pocket and extend plays after he hurt his hand. One thing I've noticed Marve do when he hits a wall in every game he's played for us including pre-season is the chuck and duck. At a certain point the hits change how he plays. They do? In what game has our Offence been better in the 2nd half then it was in the 1st?

It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
Not going to LDC this year (grey cup instead) and was a bit bummed because of the prospect of watching Willy toss darts all day against that D and hopefully coming away with a W. But with Willy out.....I'm not so upset about not going now.
