Right, and that's a pretty limited subset of today's music. I could name a handful of great metal guitarists, like Paul Waggoner, but nobody is going to know who the hell they are.

See, you're never going to get that kind of recognition of a single guitar player or something like that anymore. Pre-2000, sure, everyone was familiar with certain bands. But now, the selection is so varied that there are very few bands that "everyone" knows, and even fewer individuals. I can point to a guy like John Frusciante (formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers) as a great guitarist, but how many people specifically know who he is? It's a different world now. There are no more Eric Claptons because you will never get people to agree on such a wide scale... because again, the selection is just too huge.

Toronto isn't making it easy on themselves but when I watch them they look like a .500 team. They'd have to go 5-3 over the final 8 to make it to 9-9, though. 8-10 seems more likely for them. Can Edmonton and Winnipeg both do better than 8-10? I think so. So yes, there will be a crossover.

It's still a wildly imprecise science and if you follow the studies around this topic, and it sounds like you do, then you should know that. Even the top researchers in the field would admit the same. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that as outside observers, we can't measure it at all.
