yeah every quarterback makes poor throws, which is why I am trying to tell you people to look at the big picture. Take the entire thing into consideration and make a judgement. Nichols completed all but 4 balls against the stamps and the offense handily won the time of possession battle... yet people are saying the offense, and Nichols in particular was poor. I just don't see it as being poor. Average? Sure. Could be better? Probably, but that wasn't all Nichols problems.

here’s the Bombers workhorse tailback explaining why he was so busy: “We knew that was going to be there. (Calgary) is a team that drops out and their linebackers and DBs sit at the sticks (first-down marker). We talked about it all week: getting that ball and just getting north-south and trying to split tackles and break tackles to get first downs. When you’re in second and five those dump-down passes are easy targets, they’re contested catches and you’ve just got to get north-south with those as quickly as possible.” Perhaps some of you need to read this and see if you still want to attribute it to the quarterback and not the game plan. Or does Andrew Harris not know what he's talking about?

Well it's a counter point to all the people bitching about the throws that Nichols did miss (and really he only had 4 incompletions so...) It's just one example of a case where the quarterback gets the incomplete pass even though he did everything he possibly could have, it was up to the guy on the other end of the pass to finish the play. People don't look at the entire picture though, they just keep banging on the "nichols sucks" drum.
  4. No I am suggesting that there is nuance to stats that quarterbacks accumulate.

Nichols threw a touchdown pass, receiver just didn't get it under control before stepping out of bounds. People always gotta ***** about things, the offense really wasn't as bad as they are making it sound against the Stamps, they just didn't get a ton of opportunities in the first half on account of special teams and a couple lengthy drives against courtesy of the defense.
  6. hey it is a fact that Reilly missed the playoffs last season. On a team that many expected to be the best team in the league, or certainly among the best. And yes, Burris did have an INT problem. It was the fault in his game.
  7. Reilly missed the playoffs last season..... Burris was a brain dead moron. Ints were always the knock on him.
  8. When you have an offense that doesn't run those kinds of patterns that is what happens.
  9. The BC special teams coordinator used to do a boot camp training program some friends of my wife's convinced her to go do, she was most upset when I pointed out that the BC special teams were garbage.
  10. yes and that was almost 20 years ago, the standard for quarterbacking has changed. Khari Jones was also generally under 60% completions. These days that kind of completion % just doesn't fly. The game has changed, qbs have to be more precise with the ball than they used to be.
  11. But the coaches have basically confirmed it. if you really thought that they were unhappy with the play of the QB do you think he would have the leash he does? Do you think they wouldn't have changed the way the team plays? Would O'Shea constantly stress the importance of a "clean" game? We may have different viewpoints, but mine is based on legit observations, yours are based on what you want to see.
  12. It's a valid argument because of the mentality of this team. Don't turn the ball over on offense and generate some turnovers on defense and have better special teams than the other guys. That has been the formula for this team and it's not going to change without massive coaching changes. Best people just get used to that rather than trying to blame a quarterback for it and expecting anything different.
  13. Streveler has shown that he gets picked off more frequently in his playing time this season. THAT is the downside, and to a team that tries to win by making less mistakes than their opponent that's the one thing you can't do.
  14. Seems to me that these complaints pop up every time Lapo is the OC here. I still say Nichols best throws are the mid range ones but we don't ever give the guy a chance to make them.
  15. yeah but when it comes to Canadian depth only a ******* idiot rider fan would compare their pile of trash with what the Bombers have built. It's literally the best aspect of Kyle Walters as a GM, he builds Canadian depth. How many other teams can lose 3 allstar Canadian players in one offseason and still come out totally fine for Canadians? I mean hell with Neufeld being injured the Bombers have all 3 of their Canadian offensive linemen who started last season missing and they haven't missed a beat.
  16. I really don't understand how a Rider fan can even think about getting into a **** waving contest over Canadian depth with Bomber fans. The difference between the two teams Canadians is just laughable. Not only do we have superior top end Canadian players but the depth is not even a ******* contest.
  17. Oh well the sask safety is making a lot of tackles, that must mean he's great! Afterall when the play gets to the secondary and the safety has to make the tackle then you know you're shutting teams down. Oh no wait, the other thing, when DBs have big tackle numbers it means they're giving up catches.
  18. Hell we don't even need to replace Harris with a Canadian if we feel an American is better at rb. Can use a Canadian on defensive line, between Thomas and kongo there are options. Could use another Canadian receiver to. That's how the bombers are different than a team like the riders. Our Canadian depth is good and all over the roster.
  19. As a rusher Augustine has shown ability, plus we have a good ol. Losing Harris isn't about losing a rushing threat, what makes Harris good is that he is good at every aspect of the position. He is a good runner, a good blocker and a good receiver. To the point that Lapo makes him almost 40% of our offense. But without him other guys have to assume the role of check down player while the replacement rb is mostly just rushing the ball.
  20. I disagree that we would have no running threat without Harris. What we lose is the versatility from that position.
  21. So if Harris goes out as I said, other guys step up. Matthews, Whitehead, if Adams comes back, Demski, Wolitarsky, there are guys that can make plays on this team. Without Harris being the focal point of the offensive game plan it's just opportunity for these other guys to be as good as we think they are.

Given that holding is an optional penalty when it's offense vs. defense why are we getting so worked up over missed calls on returns? I mean cripes offside is iffy too, watching the Riders and Als the other night it sure looked like the Rider ends were moving early a ton and never got called and it was those plays that got the Riders their points. Shitty reffing is just a fact of life in the CFL. We got absolutely boned against Toronto on a poor 3rd down spot that kept the Argos going too. At the end of the year the bad calls even themselves out because the refs are bad for everyone.
  23. Harris gets hurt all it does is force other guys to step up and carry the load. Not like there's a lack of talent in that regard. Lapo loves a crutch, always has, but you take away his crutch it might force him to be more diverse in his play calling.

hey I wouldn't cry about a limited mobility Reilly taking on our defensive line.
