The piece I took was from the current review. Here is what you are missing, facts can be presented in misleading ways. Facts should be neutral. There is a quote I love about statistics but it applies here too I feel: Statistics are only as useful as the person interpreting them. Like I said, it's another form of dishonesty. Leading people down a path by telling them how to interpret things.

OK but is the analysis I posted wrong? Because I drew that conclusion just reading the initial article. They take real things and present it in a biased way. It's just another form of dishonesty that as your link here shows, they can hide behind and say "see!! Totally legit" I have said too many times in this thread that people need to cultivate the ability to discern whether information is factual on their own rather than being led around by others pushing their own agenda.

For discussion purposes : the trustworthiness of your website lists them as the following: RIGHT-CENTER BIAS These media sources are slightly to moderately conservative in bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor conservative causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Right-Center sources.
  4. Last night I turned on the TV and watched bit of sports net replaying the 89 and 93 Stanley cup finals. It was kind of reassuring to even hear the crowd noises again. Really missing the sports.

I read it on the internet it must be true! I think a lot people want that vaccine because it would simplify things immensely. But this will not carry on indefinitely.

honestly shocked he hasn't caught it already. 1

A vaccine is a nice dream, but there is no guarantees it will be effective. This virus already shows a propensity to mutate. Most likely outcome is that this turns out like the flu where it's always out there lurking but enough people have some antibodies and we learn more effective treatments that it is not a pandemic. Honestly it isn't the most deadly disease and a big majority of people don't wind up needing treatment to get over it... it's just that right now everyone is vulnerable and our bodies have no defenses to it so we get huge infection rates which is the real danger.

I don't know if that's true to be honest. There will come a point where things will return to normal with or without a vaccine. This has never been about stopping the spread, it has been an exercise in slowing the spread so we can treat the people who need it.

It's another stupid as **** argument anyway. It's a brand new disease, no **** doctors are still trying to figure out the beat way to treat it. Another reason flattening the curve has merit! Buy time for doctors to learn how best to treat patients! Like **** do these people understand anything?
  10. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't matter if it's a low death rate if THIS MANY PEOPLE CONTRACT THE DISEASE. IT WILL LEAD TO A LOT OF DEATHS! This thing spread like wildfire, that's pretty demonstrable. Some people are just either too stupid to understand or too uncaring of their fellow human beings. Or both.

See they think that means they're doing proper research. I had to dig deep to find this! That must mean I'm more informed!

Pretty sure Reagan used the Make America Great Again slogan too. SAD!

I think there is a real chance the Republicans lose the senate, but most likely the democrats do the "healing the nation" bullshit and let them off the hook.

It's not even hoarding, hospitals are buying a bunch of this stuff where they normally wouldn't. As far as masks go, you are probably not likely to find an N95 mask, and procedural masks might be out there, but you can always use a home made mask with a decently heavy fabric. I am sure there are some online guidelines for help there. Just keep in mind that wearing a mask does more to protect others from yourself spreading than it does preventing others from spreading to you.
  20. It's the old adage about hard work trumps talent but hard working talent beats everything. guys with all the tools get all sorts of chances based on that. I think where people like that get tripped up is at lower levels it is possible to just out athlete people and they never had to work to be better than anyone and when the playing field levels off they are unprepared for it.

I work in hazardous materials health and safety, and a regular part of my job is donning a respirator and hazmat suit, our company has basically told us to be frugal with our filters for the respirators, gloves and suits because finding these things is getting hard. Pallets will come in to the suppliers and be gone instantly.

all he had to run on was the economy.
  23. Spoken like a true athlete. Not to diminish your experiences or expertise but I notice that people who do have a high level athletic background value pure athleticism more, and my theory is everyone is looking at things from their own perspective of "if I could do the things that guy does physically nothing would have stopped me" To me the work ethic and attitude and brains are a bigger factor than purely measurables. I mean if you're simply unable to physically perform the task yeah measurables are a big deal, but given that it's a team sport the individual athleticism in my perspective is secondary to a lot of other factors.
  24. Measurables are only a small part of what makes a player good though. There's lots of great athletes taken in the 3rd round. Like I said the measurables don't really matter cause there have been plenty of players who have those measurables and failed to live up to expectations. It takes a lot more than just being a good athlete at the professional level because everyone there is a good athlete. It helps and it's something, but it's not the be all and end all.
