CHAMPS vs. Flappers - early thread
I mean it works for Schoen or Lawler who are 6'3. We're talking about the catch radius on a guy who is 5'6 and not a burner. Haven't seen a QB who can throw that guy open in coverage. The way zones are matched to routes now good luck getting someone that open all by himself without a DB having time to recover. Might happen once a game and he'd have to be in the first couple reads for it to get hit.

Arecenaux is alright. At least he's playing. Not sure what they see at all in Duron Carter. Looks like he doesn't even want to play football anymore.

They'll stay in range but they'll have their eyes into the backfield and jump other routes. That's my point. He's not really a threat as a receiver, maybe if he had burner speed. One thing they could do is run him on a vertical route as the third receiver to one side with the other two routes being posts after he motions across like he would for a sweep to try to open him up wide-open for a bomb to the sideline.

Not really because he has no chance to win a 50-50 ball. He'll have to be wide-open to be a threat on a vertical route. The DB doesn't have to sit on top of his routes they can run with him and under him, and he's not like a Weston Dressler or Don Narcisse where he can be a little guy but win with technique/route running. Using Grant as a regular receiver is a turnover waiting to happen.

Yeah either one of those guys needs a role. Can't just run them on the field for a play when they are going to get a sweep and run them off. Grant did nothing on those sweeps until he was in the game regularly and teams couldn't key on him. But they either need to carve out a role for him as a receiver or limit his usage a bit more, especially when we have different options on the roster. So much RPO stuff we could run off McCrae in the backfield with Oliviera that would open up the field for run or pass.

No kidding. Especially when there's a guy like Harrison who's a big body who can probably at least draw coverage to more routes to open up the field for everyone else even if he's not going to be a big producer. One thing I've noticed on watching/rewatching is that Grant does not run much variety of routes, crosser, out, sit down curl. That's it. The coverage is right on his hip all the time. He can't get open and he's not a threat to go deep, just kinda out there. We do need Grant to play some so that it's not completely obvious when he's out there to run a sweep or get a quick screen, but it's not every play.

I don't believe Harrison has touched the field from my viewing. McCrae played a couple snaps as a receiver in Calgary and is on kickoff return with Grant.

Hope we see some McCrae and Harrison otherwise I'll be sad we didn't leave Wilcots on to keep our DL extra fresh and just torture Harris.

Top NFL teams are paying their X receivers $25-$30 million bucks and their QB nearly $50 million. They gotta jump on guys like Schoen who can play for cheap for a few years at least. Gotta imagine LA Rams, Buffalo, Green Bay all have eyes on this guy, teams like that. He’ll be cheaper than a draft pick and you have a better idea that he can actually play because of what he has done as a pro.

Don’t quite understand why Ricky Walker is on the injury report each day as a full participant in practice.

Not really sure what the guy thinks he has to gain from tweeting. His own fans probably think he's a joke along with everyone else. You've got Maciocia on the sideline and Harris in the huddle...inspired.

Nothing at all like Lumsden. Lumsden's carries were being rationed starting from the day he stepped on the field at Mac. He had shoulder problems since he was a kid.

One spot where Harris got jobbed in his career was TD's. How many times has he got the ball to the 1-2 yard line then in this era they bring in the QB to run the wedge play rather than let him finish it off? He might be challenging Stegall if he got those plays. He's got 83, could have another 40 easy.

2022 CFL Season - Non Back 2 Back Champs News
Spent a lot of time in Toronto in my mid-20's....personally hate the location at the CNE of the current stadium. Terrible access from anywhere. The dome is a much better location but kind of sterile for football. They need something in proximity to a major subway station, that's why the Dome is so awesome you jump out at Union Station from damn near anywhere in Southern Ontario and walk over. CNE you have to basically get to Union Station then jump on a bus or streetcar. Riding the bus is riding the bus anywhere...sucks. I don't really know how TFC does it, but they have the better dates I guess. Soccer became trendy. They were just starting out when I was spending time there. Some of the earlier ideas about Varsity (basically on U of T campus) or York campus were probably best. That was when they had the two owners with no money who looked good on TV, 20 years ago. York is really accessible from the whole region too. The Varsity area might get some younger people, U of T students, but in my experience of Toronto wouldn't be a place I'd want to have my family with me at 10 PM. How do the Riders get better? Even if Fajardo is a guy you believe in he's out there on one leg. How does that get better during this season when you throw him out there week after week? He looked a little more peppy in the first quarter of the last game after having a week off then by halftime he could barely move again. Bye weeks aren't going to do it.

Discussion is about guys as rookies, calm down. Yeah he'll be gone this off-season. Interesting that he even got up here but probably doesn't jump off the page at the underwear olympics. Also played at a school that runs more of a heavy set with TE's and FB's, running QB's as opposed to a spread offense where receivers really shine.

It was Jeff Tedford and George Cortez.

CHAMPS vs. Flappers - early thread
My guess would be Hardrick would flip to LT and Lofton would come in at RT. If it was mid-game, Hardrick would flip to LT, Gray to RT and Dobson in at guard.

Chris Matthews is a couple tiers down from a guy like Schoen IMO. Even a guy like Arland Bruce produced in the shadow of Stegall but Schoen is already the guy.

Week 8: Non Champ Games
Yeah TSN is the sole bidder. Not sure if any of the streaming/gambling upstarts will become an option but then you lose eyeballs if you move behind subscription. Some leagues/teams are producing their own broadcasts and selling that back to broadcasters. Might be an option for the CFL.

Yeah I’d add another DL or OL if we’re not going to use him at all. Put one of those American OL in and use him as a 6th/7th guy in the front to really beef up the run blocking in some sets. That’s the thing. Even if Harrison isn’t super nuanced you’d think he can play 20 snaps a game from the exact same spot in formation and run a fly/post/corner to draw some coverage to him and maybe get isolated where Collaros can put one up for him. They kept the guy in a competitive training camp and he’s been practicing all season so he must be of some use.

CHAMPS vs. Flappers - early thread
Harris is a good matchup for us. Can’t remember which of the analysts said it but at this point the only way to beat the Bombers D is big plays. Like you gotta hit 3-4 big TD plays in a game. Montreal did this to us in 19, but there’s no way they are doing it with Harris who can’t make those throws. He might throw for 400 yards but it’ll be for 1 TD and 5 FG attempts.

Week 8: Non Champ Games
I like the Redblacks Stamps matchup this week ahead. Calgary due for a big letdown after max effort to keep pace with the Blue. Wouldn’t be surprised if Carey is out along with McEwen and Roberson.

What's your dream commentary/referee game day lineup
One thing I’ve noticed with DT and Doug Brown is that they are really bad at describing formations and offensive plays. I listened to the Calgary game and watched it later, neither of Demski’s two TDs were remotely like what I envisioned from the radio call/breakdown. Maybe could use a QB or more offensive minded person in the booth with them. Also need to say score and clock more often for people who are driving to the lake or on a boat, no TV.

One change I’d like to see…let’s get Harrison/McCrae with more reps on O and let Grant focus on returning kicks. Suppose if Ellingson is back it’s a moot point. Grant doesn’t add much to O as an every down player, don’t mind mixing him in. Seems like his returns are down when he takes more snaps on O. Also let’s get a look at Harrison and McCrae in live action when the stakes aren’t too high for us.

Week 8: Non Champ Games
The telling sign there too is the “hopefully we get some guys back soon” line that players and coaches keep saying. So automatically you lower the expectations if you lose anyone to injury? Think we’re on our 5th SAM in this run since mid-2019…how come they can all be impactful players? We’re on the backup to the backup safety and that guy can make the play to end the game.
