Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
I’d like to see about 20 designed run plays a game, Oliviera about 12-14 times, McCrae/Demski/Bailey about 6-8 times. Oliviera is a great player but you need to work in the other guys both out of backfield and with Jet/Orbit motions other misdirection to widen out the D. Olivieira can’t effectively run the stretch plays, you need him going straight north-south you don’t want him going wide and then trying to hit vertical. The problem with moving the pocket is to you can’t let the D set the edge, you need your tackles to win. That’s been rare this year. You see against a team like Edmonton more of an interior rush issue that they moved Collaros around a lot. BC, Calgary, Ottawa just killed our tackles and ability to get Collaros out by design and his ability to scramble. Calgary and Ottawa had guys our interior couldn’t handle too…Rose and Wakefield.

Ford is junk and as a QB brings no value to a CFL roster. If he wants to play DB I’d be interested.

Do you think BC would hand him over to the Bombers? There's only two teams that have a shot to get out of the West. I wouldn't expect them to help each other build their rosters.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
The Bombers aren't built to run the ball (or stop the run) more than anyone else in this league. If anything multiple teams, including BC with Adams, are built completely around RPO stuff that the Bombers only run in a cursory manner to move the pocket here and there. Nobody gives a **** about running the ball in cold anymore. If anything it favours the quick passing game and screens when D have bad footing.

League should be calling BC about all the gun celebrations by their DB's.

Wasted their timeout too.

They'd discipline Foxcroft but he'd enjoy it too much.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
Riders have been ****** by ref in this one with the QB headshot calls/non-calls.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
Harris was not scoring any points.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
Have Suitor yelling about a DL's arm grazing a QB head and then plays later celebrating a DB spearing a receiver crown of helmet to facemask...some incidental head contact.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
Not sure how Betts avoided a misconduct there. Brutal cheap shot on Rider OL after play.

Kitty Kats versus the 4 Stripes
Sayles with the boneheaded play and TSN producer with the boneheaded camera angle.

To me there's a big difference between grazing the head and contacting the head. That was the former. If that's a penalty it's pretty damn hard to sack a QB unless they put flags on them for guys to go for. Made all the worse that it's a scoring play for Sask. TBH should have been autoreviewed as a scoring play to not add insult to injury there losing the challenge.

BC has a way higher ceiling if Evans is able to stay locked in.

Yeah once they figure out he's going to drop back and throw it to the tall guy he's ******.

What could we trade to Edmonton for Jake Ceresna? Rights to Buck Pierce potential future as a head coach? Ceresna would be the perfect player to add to our DL, impactful in every spot. Jefferson, Jeffcoat, Walker, Ceresna plus the Canadians would be stacked. Like Casey Sayles but good. Should be the kind of guy they are scanning their scouting lists for to get up here ASAP.

Week (7) of E(l)ks at Bombers
More chance for Bennett to look over the shoulder of the lineman carrying him downfield and yell to his teammates where the ball is headed.

Depends if Damian Jackson is dressed that week or not.

Week 7 - E(l)ks @ Blue Bombers - GDT
You can't complain on one hand about an old boys club and support taking all-star level players off the field for a guy who hasn't played well in 4 calendar years. I think it's more the opposite for Rose. Sure put him on the roster, we have the American spots, but work him in.

Not really. I don't think he's better than Houston, Parker, Nichols, Holm. If he gets on all 5 of those guys will be on if healthy. Schoen didn't really seem to go into protocol but he was running laps up and down the sideline the rest of the game after that hit with his helmet on, briefly went to locker room. The way he dropped that ball was complete fencing response which indicates concussion.

Hall has always had an inordinate love for run blitzes, but this year has been a new level. Bighill should be on the depth chart as a DT. As a OL coach, run blitz me all day, I don't care if you line up 8 guys across the line, the less space my fat guys have to cover to find a block the better. As zone run game takes over these D play callers are going to have to back off on the run blitzes because the aren't going to work unless you have backers that can catch a 4.4 tailback from across the formation and behind. I'm waiting for the week when they figure out Alexander needs to be the SAM. Kramdi moves like a 70 year old between whistles, I don't mind his play but I don't think he'll last very long. SAM- Alexander CB- Houston HB- Nichols S- Darby/Hallett HB- Holm CB- Parker (start him in the secondary he's not a punt returner) Parker I might put at the boundary with Nichols.

ADS is adequate, would like a little more aggression to the field. So far he's made most of the tackles or at least turned guys in, but he's getting caught in space all the time 1 on 1 vs guys that have the ability to either make him miss, truck him or both. If he cuts down on the space the guy has receiving the ball there's a lot less opportunity for the 20-30-70 yard catch and run. Holm, Nichols and Houston are all potential all-stars

Week (7) of E(l)ks at Bombers
2019 Couture went down in Game 18. Speller came in at centre and also started half that season over Desjarlais. The most common OL we used in 19 was Bryant-Speller-Couture-Gray-Hardrick with Desjarlais as the 6th. Different team when they inserted Desjarlais. Neufeld came back at the end of September.
