  1. I agree. They aren't really comparative in terms of backgrounds and business experience, but in terms of experience in politics, pretty similar. Trump is far more experienced than Obama, on many issues, especially when it comes to actually being in the real world and running actual enterprises with thousands of employees. Obama had none of this experience when he won the presidency, and yet he was handed the keys to the biggest business on earth, and no one was saying the EC should vote against his nomination. In fact, they would have been viciously attacked if they'd even suggested it. Both Trump and Obama brought different kinds of views and strengths and weaknesses to the office, as both come from extremely different backgrounds. I honestly think that continuing to under-estimate Trump is a mistake, and I find the fact that its so easy for people to do this troubling. But as I've said before, I'm willing to wait and see how things go before drawing final judgement. So you are ok with making fun of someone's disability, as long as its done on a "comedy show" (and a government funded one at that)? I'm curious as to why that is.
  2. Agree to disagree. 22 Minutes is a taxpayer-funded Canadian show. If the leader of the Green Party was someone with a speech impediment or a disability and some right-wing site like the Rebel made fun of that disability, there would howling to beat the band about the horrible right-wing. I don't think that this Hour should get a pass because they choose to make fun of someone the Left doesn't like. They should be held to the same standard, and that video is offensive.
  3. Jacquie - why is this "stirring the pot"? I am just trying to point out what I think is a terrible double-standard. I feel that the same factors that apply to Trump also apply to Obama, in that there are a lot of extremely bitter people out there who don't want Trump to be president, as there were a lot that didn't want Obama to be president. That being said, it only appears "ok" to challenge Trump with the EC, and not Obama, even though both candidates soundly defeated their opponents. I don't know why you are playing the race card, and that troubles me deeply that you would even go there. TUP said it best here: In my view Obama was extremely unqualified to be president. So other than pettiness and spite, there exists the same reasoning as to why Obama would have been blocked at the Electoral College level as Trump. We can agree to disagree on that one (and I know we will). I just think that if there had been any grand-standing or use of the EC to try and block Obama due to his inexperience and the fact he was unqualified, the Democrats and their legions of PC followers would have gone extremely ape-poop, and while jumping to the race card would have been one angle, I think the big one would have been respect for democracy and respecting the will of the American people. Somehow, if a Democrat wins, and anyone challenges it, they are "an enemy of democracy", while if its a Republican, it's totally cool and even "healthy". I see that as a horrible double-standard. Much like how Trump was pilloried for making fun of people with disabilities (and rightly so, that was awful and he should have been criticized) This Hour has 22 Minutes was able to make fun of Kellie Leitch's speech impediment without any sort of out-cry. I don't agree with the actions of either, though it appears that only one side gets called out on it.
  4. LOL - vote their conscience? Seriously? Imagine if the Electoral College had decided to "vote their conscience" and prevent an Obama presidency in 2008??
  5. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/12/14/trump-rally-punch-sentencing-orig-vstop-dlewis.cnn Here's a story that was very ugly during the election and got a lot of air-play, mostly because it made Donald Trump supporters look so bad, so of course it went all over the world just to "prove" what bigots and racists Donald Trump supporters are. If I had blinked while watching CNN this morning I would have missed the happy ending to this story, which of course is getting no air play anywhere (why would it? It's a good story with zero political capital for the DNC). The man who hit the other man in the head at the DT rally apologized for his behavior, and they hugged it out and agreed to work together to heal the country. Isn't that what everyone in the US should be doing right now? If these two can put their differences behind them, can't everyone?
  6. I thought he was the orange colour candidate.
  7. and vice versa it appears when it comes to the DNC. If Russia had tampered to allow Hillary to win, the media would be keeping a complete clamp on the whole story. Just like the media isn't reporting on the voting irregularities in Michigan and Wisconsin that show Hillary received thousands of votes that don't exist. If it was the other way around, there would be marching and riots in the streets. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2016/12/12/records-many-votes-detroits-precincts/95363314/ http://alexanderhiggins.com/5138-fraud-votes-unexplained-as-hillary-clinton-loses-wisconsin-recount/
  8. What they have now isn't working. And I'm just basing that on many angry Americans I have talked to, who think Obama-care could have been so much better if it hadn't been introduced by incompetent DNC-appointed bureaucrats. I have some hope that Trump will find a way to make their health care better. Everyone has under-estimated him so much that he couldn't do much worse than what is already expected of him.
  9. Here's a real tweet. I wonder what Jill Stein is going to do with all of that cash she suckered out of all of those angry bitter Hillary supporters?
  10. Those are valid concerns and I can see what you are saying. I also am not wild about Steve Bannon being part of the Trump team. I would add to your list above the fact that Trump doesn't appear very interested in intelligence briefings, which would indicate he's not really taking the job of being president very seriously. In fact it would appear that he's ok with Pence doing the day to day stuff, and Trump will just sit back and make decisions when called upon. Kind of like how he runs his businesses, I would guess. It also appears like he isn't going to sit back and allow China to get away with all of the blatant corporate theft and bullying anymore either. The Chinese are pretty cheesed right now with Trump's Taiwan statements, and maybe its time they were served notice that there's a new sheriff in town, that isn't going to just let China push everyone around. Trade with China has been so completely one-sided and something has to give somewhere. It will be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out. That all being said, Trump's victory is unprecedented. Never before, has someone like this been elected. It's going to take time to figure things out. I am cautiously optimistic, only because up until now everyone, and I mean everyone, has totally underestimated Trump at every turn. And he's somehow made them all look foolish. I am hopeful he is going to do that again.
  11. If we had Franklin in the bag I would be ok with losing Nichols. I am just basing that on what I've seen of Franklin and what I've seen has me pretty impressed. I don't want broken down Lulay (kind of a Buck Pierce situation there, minus the many concussions) and I don't want to ever see Glenn starting for us, ok with him as a back-up mentor and that's it. Otherwise, I'm going all in on Nichols. Just my opinion.
  12. This is how I'll feel if we lose Nichols after finally showing some ability to win games again:
  13. Wish them both well. If Delvin Breaux can make the Saints, everyone with CFL experience has a shot. Well, maybe not Matt Bucknor...
  14. Do you ever actually comment on the topic at hand? Are posts like this actually necessary? I'm just curious. If you really want to attack me with these kinds of posts, why not just inbox me, rather than putting this on the actual thread? What is it that you want to accomplish with this post exactly? I am asking because Rich asked us to be civil, and here I am trying so hard, and am just getting posts like this as a response. Shame on you guys. This is really sad.
  15. Hey welcome to your first day as a fire-fighter. Just stand here beside this hose while the house over there burns down.
  16. How does Iginla stay in the league? Of course I was asking this for several years while watching Scott Gomez.
  17. What a complete clown-show in Montreal. Just ridiculous.
  18. LOL - I don't have a man crush on Trump. That my comments calling for reason and patience somehow has tempered my "street cred", whatever that is, is hilarious. I honestly don't care. I have never met you people and never plan to meet you. I just find that your constant comments about him are horribly unfair. Give the guy a chance. He's in power for four years now whether you like it or not. All of you guys are going to have heart-attacks if you keep up this level of sheer anger and bile. If that somehow makes me a "man crush" then so be it. I get it, it's not fashionable to do anything right now but make insults about Trump and complain about him. Anything short of the accepted narrative about him being awful results in immediate attack. But I honestly don't care. Let's all calm down, and watch a movie.
  19. which memes are silly and stupid? This is a US political thread. There's nothing wrong with memes.
  20. yes, and seeing how childish the Anti-Trump gang is being here, I can see why my posts about Trudeau were upsetting some people, as in that case as well as Trump's, it was best to let the person actually do something before complaining bitterly about them. With the whole Castro thing and now this democracy nonsense Trudeau really is demonstrating lately why he's just not ready.
