Flags...Seriously
The new rules give them more chances to throw the flag. Not surprising that the number of them has gone up. As a start, they could eliminate the chintzy 'Unsportsman' penalties for pretending to eat or pretending to go for a flag. Those type of penalties do nothing but slow the game down.

CFL Week 2 Other Games - CGY at MTL / BC at OTT / TOR at SSK
The redblacks look like a real football team this year. I was wondering what Burris would look like with some real receivers at his disposal and now I know... He looks like a good QB again. Sure he almost threw a couple of INT's in the first Q, but after that he was pretty much on his game. Everyone on the panel kept saying how great Lulay was playing. Don't know what they were seeing. His accuracy, especially on his deep throws, was off. His timing was too. Lots of rust there, but nice to see him out competing again. Was looking forward to seeing Tedfords no huddle offence. Was disappointed. Here's a hint... the no huddle shouldn't be getting the snap off with 1 or 2 seconds left on the clock. So far, we were the worst team in the CFL this week by a country mile.

CFL Week 2 Other Games - CGY at MTL / BC at OTT / TOR at SSK
Wow. I'm blown away by the way Montreal beat up Calgary tonight. We're in deep trouble next week against that defence with Brohm at QB. We might be in deep trouble against Cato for that matter.

Logan... I'd have pulled Collaros in the 4th quarter to give the backup a quarter of reps and to make sure Collaros wasn't going to take any more abuse. You and 17 should start supporting Marve and start hoping he's the real deal like a lot of folks around here. Support our 2nd best QB and hope he is better than Brohm because the alternative is that Brohm is our 2nd best QB and he's simply not good enough.

So everyone seems to agree that Marve needs experience if he's going to get better. To get that, he needs reps. We had a bunch of those available in the 4th quarter last night, but some folks around here don't want to give them to Marve in case we push him too fast and break him? Huh? We should develop Marve slowly? Why? So he can become a 29 year old backup without much experience. Hint: We've already got one of those on the roster. Marve's one pass attempt was horrible last night. No argument from me or anyone else for that matter. As a reason not to play however, it's weak. Willy was 3 for 6 with an INT before he got hurt. Those kind of numbers won't win many games. I seriously doubt we win with Willy. It was obvious we weren't going to win with Brohm's 2 INT's, 3 yard dump passes and dirt throws. Why not give Marve the 4th if for nothing else than some experience.

Fire Richie Hall
Randle was loved last year because he's a difference maker at CB. He's not been playing well in his new spot except for the time he shot the gap last night and brought down the RB behind the LOS. I'd move him back where he's a difference maker and move someone else into his LB spot.

[MERGED] Drew Willy Watch And Fine Discussion
Could be true. It wasn't shown on TV though and O'Shea said Willy watched the 2nd quarter from the tunnel, not the rest of the game.

Marve definitely needs playing time to see if he gets better or not. He's younger, faster, more mobile, a better passer and has more upside than Brohm has. He's also a square peg in a round hole for MB and O'Shea. There was no downside to giving Marve the 4th quarter last night, except maybe taking the reps away from Brohm. It might have provided a spark or more of the same, but it sure would have been more interesting to watch.

D was a problem... but 2 pick 6 + a returned punt = 21 points 35 points against is still bad... but then didn't we also have a turnover deep in our own zone that also lead to a TD (28 points given up when TiCats actually had to move the ball.... not great, not so bad that we should be tearing our hair out) So you're saying it would have been closer if you take away 4 of Hamilton's TD's. Can't fault that kind of 'logic'.

[MERGED] Drew Willy Watch And Fine Discussion
Willy was in the back of tunnel where it's darker in the second quarter with his uniform on. My guess is he was seeing how the lights and noise would affect him and the results weren't positive. The cameras didn't show him at all in the second half so my guess is he was going through the concussion protocol behind closed doors. I'd be more likely to believe that it wasn't serious if I'd seen Willy on the sidelines in his civvies in the second half.

I want my HC to say he knows what the problems are and has a plan to fix them. I don't want him to downplay the obviously horrendous results. Looking at the video of this game.... better have a slop bucket close by to throw up in.

Brohm did what Brohm does... Threw the ball into the dirt over and over. Sometimes the receivers pull it up off the ground and make him look good. No one's saying he was the only problem, but he certainly was one of the big problems tonight. I'd have loved to see what Marve could do in the 4th quarter. Would have been great experience for him and would have given Hamilton something else to defense that they probably wouldn't have practised for. Wouldn't likely have changed the outcome, but would probably breathed some life into the offence and given the fans something positive to talk about.

It won't be as easy this week as it was against Regina last week. Their best receiver and their best DB were out before the game started. Then they lost 3 starting NI's during the game including their MLB. Oh yah and their starting QB. Not much else could have gone wrong for them and we didn't beat them by much. If we'd done the same under the same circumstances there'd be lots of fans saying we were really close considering everything that went against us.

TIger cats sign Johnny Sears
Sears plays the game the way I like to see it played, but he's injured too often to rely on him. He's Hamilton's problem now, but I expect to see him light us up a few times this week.

Hurl - O'Shea; Mentor - Protege: Cloning ?
Not even close..what a terrible comparisonTerrible hyped up Canadian players that didn't cut it as starters on their former teams and we thought we could change that? It's a very apt comparison actually. No... Its not really. No one had tremendous hope for Cauchy.. We do for Hurl. We also didn't write off the kid after one game.. Against his former team.... And former coach... Smh. That's revisionist history. Lots of folks around here had huge expectations for Cauchy and didn't want to hear that he wasn't a good pick up.

Protecting the QB's: NFL vs. CFL
Reilly got hurt in the pocket, twice in the same game. LeFevour was on a roll out. Durrant was in the pocket and no one touched him. Crompton was in the pocket too IIRC (Didn't go back and check)

[MERGED] BOMBERS ADD POSEY AND DAVIS TO PRACTICE ROSTER
The most likely trading partner for Brohm or Marve would be Montreal. They lost their 2nd string QB, and their first string guy has a shoulder injury. Their 3rd string is a raw rookie that they aren't likely to want to put at #2. They'd probably want Brohm because of his experience. Edmonton wouldn't want Brohm because their O works around having a QB who can run. They'll probably just move Franklin from the PR to the main roster and leave it at that. Regina has the best backup in the league in Glenn. They'll need another backup QB, but I don't think they'll give much up for our 3rd string QB. Small chance they'd give up something for our #2.

Odds and Sods - Game 1 - Bombers at Riders
The Good: The revamped O line gave Willy the extra second he needs and he took full advantage of it. Moore finally gets a TD and shows us why he's worth that big paycheck. Cotton showed why the coaches have faith in him. Amazing what he can do when he gets a hole to run through. Finally got that green monkey off our back and won in Regina Adams game changing int at the one We beat a team we have to beat to make the playoffs and it wasn't just by a few fluky plays. The Bad: Randle and Hurl at LB D line pressure Penalties 14 for 167 isn't good enough. The Ugly: 497 yards against, 212 of them rushing yards.

Week 1 Pick 'Ems
The first couple of weeks are best guess time, and I didn't guess very well. resulting in 0-4. Picked the favorites in 3 out of 4 games and they all lost. Went for an upset in the Hamilton/Calgary game and lost it by a 50 yard FG on the last play of the game.

Odds and Sods - Game 1 - Bombers at Riders
Reilly got hurt in the pocket by a low hit that wasn't the defender's fault. His style had nothing to do with the injury. It was more a fluke than anything else.
