Perreault given 4 year extension
It is a NMC. It is a limited or modified NMC, meaning he has to give a list of teams.

Perreault given 4 year extension
I meant obligated under the expansion draft rules. But I think you are right, the NTC won't kick in until after the expansion draft.

Perreault given 4 year extension
Good question. The expansion draft is June 21, 2017. two days before the entry draft. When does the NHL season officially "roll over". I wonder what contract year they will look at to decide how to apply the expansion draft rules.

Perreault given 4 year extension
He wasn't in peoples lists (at least not mine) because he was going to be a UFA. So you could re-sign him after the expansion draft if you let this contract expire (with the risk of losing him in FA). A modified NTC means that if the Jets go to him and say they want to trade him, he has negotiated a number of teams he can exclude at that time. A full no trade clause would mean you just can't trade him unless he says okay.

Perreault given 4 year extension
Love Perreault as a player, but I have mixed feelings on this deal. He is probably going to be a 3rd line player for us going forward (with the ability to move up with injuries). $3M for a 3rd line player is good value. $4M is getting pricey. CapFriendly is also reporting that there is a modified no trade clause. NTC makes sense in this negotiation as he is signing a year early before becoming a FA and he would want some protection against being an expansion pick. If true, we will have to protect him in the expansion draft. so time to redo your protected lists....

Jets Prospects
Not at all saying Connor won't be able to play or make it in the NHL. But, smaller guys tend to need longer to develop before they make it.

Jets Prospects
The problem I have with that comparison is you are comparing what Eichel and Larkin did at 18 in the NCAA to what Connor did at 19 in the NCAA. So while Connor was a freshman, he was a 19 year old freshman. Only a year difference, but that year can be huge at that age in terms of physical and mental growth. I wonder how much Eichel would have scored if he played in the NCAA last year. That would be a fairer comparison. They were all born the same year. Eichel in October, Connor in December, and Larkin in July. So for sure Connor is the youngest, but he is only 2 months younger than Eichel. I also worry about Connor's size in the NHL. Eichel - 6'2' 201 Larkin - 6'2' 190 Connor - 6'1' 177 Look at how Scheifele got pushed around in those early years when they kept sending him back down to Juniors and even in his first couple of years in the NHL. Connor needs to put on some muscle and learn how to adjust and play his game against much faster and bigger competition. They will probably keep him up for the 7 game "tryout" at the beginning of the season, but I'd like to see him with the Moose to develop and adjust to the pro game.

Jets Prospects
I think the best thing for the Jets and Connor would be for him to start in the AHL. However there is a rumour going around HFBoards that the Jets made a "deal" with Connor when he signed that he would play his first year in the NHL. And of course he signed last year before we knew we were picking Laine, so if we did make such a deal, it would have been before we knew what the depth on the left hand side would look like. According to the rumour, this is a common occurrence with the NCAA kids as a way to entice them to jump to the NHL. Of course the NHL clubs don't want the prospects sitting in the NCAA for too long due to the limits on what contact / development they can have with the prospect and the loop hole that would let the prospect re-enter the draft if they aren't signed in time. They apparently also made the same deal with Copp when he signed. The deal of course would not be enforceable by a contract or anything like that, but if you go back on the "handshake", you would have a tough time getting an agent to agree to the same thing next time.

Week 3 (vs Ham...Now With Depth Chart)
We are 3rd in average punt yards given up and 2nd in average kickoff return yards given up. Top 3 in both categories. We are 3rd in average punt return yards gained and 1st in average kickoff return yards gained. Top 3 in both categories. Lots to complain about with this team, don't need to invent more.

Who doesn't make the Jets next year?
If we start the year with 3 rookies (2 in our top 6) + Petan with a whopping 26 NHL games under his belt, we will be in the hunt for Nolan Patrick next year. Not sure why everyone wants to trade away serviceable players and push rookies into the lineup. Spending time in the AHL and forcing your way into the lineup isn't a bad thing. Handing rookies jobs out of training camp = see last season. My preference is to keep Lowry Stafford Armia and see Connor, Petan, Lemieux and Tanev all start in the Moose. Let them come up when injuries hit and force the coach and GM's hand to keep them up there.

Jets Prospects
The NCAA program has improved drastically over the years. Going to the OHL would mean the Jets could pay for his travel to be in camp, etc. NCAA would forbid that. However, he is American and from Ohio. Nothing wrong with getting a College education to boot.

Patrik Laine
Not saying Johnson has no blame in the whole thing, he definitely has to shoulder some of it. But how many people of the general public would make stupid decisions if they got that much money at the age. Agree he trusted the wrong people.
-
Patrik Laine
Jack Johnson got taken for a ride by his parents and supposed financial advisers. The only thing he did wrong was trust people he should have been able to trust.

Apparently he has given some of his bonus to his parents. Nice thing to do for all the time and money I'm sure they put in throughout his childhood.

2016 Lines
Also missing Burmi. There is a good chance Dano and Petan start with the Moose since they can be sent down. Replace Dano with Stafford and through Burmi down on the 4th line if you can't trade him. Lots of injury depth though.
